Marcelli2 1 [email protected] & 2 [email protected] Instituto de Botânica, Seção de Micologia e Liquenologia Caixa Postal 3005, São Paulo/SP, CEP 01061-970, Brazil Abstract — Four species previously included in the genus Bulbothrix are shown not to form bulbate cilia and are combined into alternative genera as Hypotrachyna tuskiformis, Parmelinopsis pinguiacida, P. subinflata, and Parmotrema yunnanum. All species are described in detail and a lectotype is selected for Bulbothrix tuskiformis. Key words — Bulbothrix pinguiacida, Bulbothrix subinflata, Bulbothrix yunnana Introduction The genus Bulbothrix Hale was proposed for a group of species previously included in Parmelia ser. Bicornutae (Lynge) Hale & Kurokawa (Hale 1974) characterized by small laciniate, adnate thalli, bulbate marginal cilia, cortical atranorin, simple to branched cilia and rhizines, smooth to coronate apothecia, unicellular, colorless, ellipsoid to bicornute ascospores 5−21 × 4−12 μm, and small, bacilliform to bifusiform conidia 5−10 µm long (Hale 1976b, Elix 1993a). During a taxonomic revision of the genus we found four species previously included in Bulbothrix that do not have the typical cilia with hollow basal bulbae that contain differentiated cells and an oily substance (Hale 1975, Feuerer & Marth 1997) should be classified outside this genus. These four species are distributed in Southeast Asia and Oceania. Hypotrachyna tuskiformis is still only known from the type locality in Papua New Guinea (Elix 1997b), Parmelinopsis pinguiacida from New Caledonia and Rarotonga (Louwhoff & Elix 2000a, 2000b), Parmelinopsis subinflata from the Philippines, Australia, Malaysia, and Papua New Guinea (Hale 1965, 1976b, Sipman 1993, Streimann 1986), and Parmotrema yunnanum from southern China (Wang et al. -

REHANA BANU2 1,2Department of Botany, PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Peelamedu, Coimbatore 641004, Tamil Nadu, India Email: [email protected] Received: 08 Apr 2021, Revised and Accepted: 19 Jun 2021 ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate of phytopharmaceutical importance of endolichenic fungi isolated from Hypotrachyna infirma (Kurok.) Hale. Methods: The lichen species were collected from Sholaiyar hills, Coimbatore and identified as Hypotrachyna infirma (Kurok.)Hale. From this lichen, 29 endolichenic fungi were isolated and 13 endolichenic fungi were identified. From the identified endolichenic fungi, 26 extracts were prepared by successive solvent extraction methods using Ethyl acetate and chloroform. Results: The phytochemical study revealed the presence of important constituents like Alkaloids, Tannins, Carbohydrates, Phenols, Protein, Terpenoids, Steroids, Glycosides Flavonoids and Saponins. From the 13 endolichenic fungi, only 5 endolichenic fungi (Nigrospora oryzae (Berkand Broome)Petch, Geotrichum candidum Link, Scytalidium lignicola pesante, Aspergillus oryzae(Ahlb.) cohn, Aspergillus niger Gr.) have more constitutents. These 5 endolichenic fungi have good results in Quantitative analysis also. Conclusion: Compared to ethyl acetate extracts Chloroform extracts showed very less concentration of the phytochemicals. From this study we conclutated Nigrospora oryzae (Berk and Broome) Petch gave the best results in both qualitative and quantitative compared to other endolichenic fungi. Hypotrachyna Revoluta Species Fact Sheet
SPECIES FACT SHEET Common Name: Gray loop lichen Scientific Name: Hypotrachyna revoluta (Flörk) Hale Division: Ascomycota Class: Ascomycetes Order: Lecanorales Family: Parmeliaceae Technical Description: The genus Hypotrachyna is comprised of small foliose lichens, averaging 1-4 cm wide but up to 10 cm wide. The thallus is loosely appressed or loosely attached with ascending lobe tips. Soredia are present in Pacific Northwest specimens. Thallus lobes are thin and narrow, averaging 1-5 mm wide, and the sinuses between lobes are conspicuously rounded. The upper surface is greenish or grayish and somewhat shiny; the lower surface is black and shiny with forked rhizines that extend to or protrude beyond the lobe margins. The medulla is white and the photobiont is green. Apothecia are rare. (Goward et al. 1994, McCune and Geiser 1997, Johnson and Galloway 1999, Chen et al. 2003). Hypotrachyna revoluta is grayish, bluish, or if somewhat greenish, then not yellowish green. The lobes are relatively short and broad. Cilia at the margins are absent or if present, very sparse and less than 1 mm long. The soralia are broad and diffuse, with the loosely packed soredia giving them a coarse appearance. The rhizines are sparsely branched and are sparse to moderately dense, being progressively better developed toward the thallus center. The medulla is P-, K-, C+R, KC+R and the cortex is K+Y. This lichen is distinguished from similar species in the Pacific Northwest by the color of its upper surface in combination with lobe shape, soralia shape and characteristics of the cilia and rhizines (Goward et al. -

The present study describes the species of Canomaculina Elix & Hale and Parmotrema A. Massal. occuring in Curitiba, Paraná. Identification keys, descriptions of the species, and comments are presented. Canomaculina conferenda (Hale) Elix, Canomaculina pilosa (Stizemb.) Mycosphere 5(6), 770–789, Doi 10.5943/mycosphere/5/6/8 Abstract A detailed morphological and anatomical investigation of the type specimens of the current- ly accepted species of Parmelinella (Parmeliaceae, Lichenized Fungi) confirmed the current spe- cies delimitations and revealed additional characteristics. The name Parmelia mutata is removed from synonymy with Parmelinella versiformis and proposed as a new combination, and Parmelia nimandairana is removed from Parmelinella wallichiana and proposed as another new combina- tion. Parmelinella salacinifera is proposed as a new combination. A lectotype is designated for Parmelinella versiformis. A key to all currently accepted species of the genus is presented. Key words – Canoparmelia – Parmelina – Parmotremopsis – cilia – salazinic acid Introduction Elix & Hale (1987) installed the genus Parmelinella for three species previously included in Parmelina (P. wallichiana, P. manipurensis and P. simplicior) with broad, rotund lobes, an emaculate thallus, sparse, simple cilia more or less restricted to the axils, simple black rhizines, ellipsoid ascospores, short cylindrical conidia, and salazinic and consalazinic acids in the medulla. A key for the differentiation of this and some further newly proposed genera, all segregates of Parmelina, and a table containing many characteristics for them was included with the descriptions of the genera. -

Crustose: thallus is a crust that may be thin, thick, smooth, wrinkled, powdery, granular or cracked like dried mud. Crustose species are adpressed (closely pressed) to the substrate. Some species have concentric growth rings at the margin. LICHENS OF ATLANTIC Features that may be present on the upper surface Cilia: wiry black hairs on the upper surface or lobe margins. WOODLANDS Fruits: sexual reproductive structures that produce spores. They can be round discs, pimple-like or globular. Macrolichen diversity was first catalogued by Moore (1968), followed by Harris (1990, 1995). “Lichens of North America” also contains photographs and descriptions of many of Florida’s macrolichens (Brodo et al. 2001). The aim of this book is to compliment these other resources and provide more field oriented keys to the macrolichen diversity. We hope to encourage the incorporation of lichens into field oriented ecological studies. Many of the species included in the keys are based lists and information from Harris (1990, 1995).
