Vacancy: National Women’s Head Coach Background Cricket Scotland is the national governing body for cricket at both performance and participation levels throughout Scotland. Our vision is to inspire Scotland to choose cricket and we do that by supporting the different forms of the game within communities, schools and over 130 clubs throughout the country. The future of Scottish Cricket is incredibly bright, and we continue in our pursuit of ICC Full Member status. In line with our strategic plan, the organisation has created this exciting new role and our main aim for the Scotland Women’s squad is to qualify for the ICC World Cup and T20 World Cup events for the first time in our history. Scotland is currently ranked 13th in Women’s T20I format. 2021 is an exciting year for our Women with an ICC European Qualifier event, and a potential Commonwealth Games qualifying event featuring on the calendar. This position reports into the Chief Executive and is based at Cricket Scotland’s offices in Edinburgh. The nature of the role demands someone willing to travel when required. Purpose of the Role The Cricket Scotland National Women’s Head coach role will lead and coach the two senior women’s squads (Scotland and Scotland ‘A’) and the Women’s Performance Academy (PA) group in a full-time role. The position will also manage all coaching, managerial and sport science staff involved in these programmes, in conjunction with the High-Performance Manager (HPM) and Performance Pathway Manager (PPM). The position will create suitable training and competition programmes for all afore mentioned groups with a key focus on player development and competition qualification. The role will also involve the mentoring and development of coaches within the women’s performance programme and work alongside the Women’s and Girls’ Development Manager (WGDM) to identify the most talented young female players from schools and clubs. The post will work in conjunction with Cricket Scotland’s key partners and stakeholders, those who help fund the women’s programme, such as sportscotland; the Scottish Institute of Sport; the ICC; and other relevant organisations. The role will help shape a framework for player development, implement and update policies, programmes and practices that will improve the way in which talented female cricketers are identified, selected, and ultimately developed. Inspiring Scotland to choose cricket United Determined Excellence Dynamic Integrity Job Description Role Title: National Women’s Head Coach Main Purpose: The National Women’s Head coach role will lead and coach the two senior women’s squads and women’s performance academy group Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer Direct Reports: Assistant Coaches Office: National Cricket Academy, MES Sports Centre, Edinburgh, EH4 3NT Hours: 37.5 hours per week Outline of Role: The role holder will: • Lead and coach the two senior women’s squads and women’s performance academy (PA) group in a full-time role. • Manage all coaching, managerial and sport science staff involved in these programmes. • Mentor and develop coaches within the women’s performance programme • Assist with the creation of suitable training and competition programmes for all aforementioned groups with a key focus on player development and competition qualification. 1 Management • Create and deliver the Scotland Women’s High-Performance and programme. Administration • Ensure a clear player pathway exists and is reviewed annually (see below structure Figure 1). • Hold six-monthly and post-tournament player review meetings • Provide annual and six-monthly reports on the senior women’s programmes. • Develop and mentor the coaches involved with the Women’s Regional squads. • Line-manage the coaches and team managers of all female senior and PA teams, and other specialist or consultant coaches • Manage and oversee the maintenance of coaching reports on players, profiling records, video libraries and the monitoring of player performance diaries. • Oversee indoor and outdoor facility provision to deliver all training programmes. • Reinforce to the players, parents/guardians, coaching, and support staff the CS code of conduct. • Attend quarterly Female Performance Group cricket meetings. • Support in the continued creation of a National Framework for developing world-class female cricketers • Other cricket activity deemed appropriate or reasonably within the remit of the role, and any other duty within the purview of the role as decided by the CS HPM & PPM. Inspiring Scotland to choose cricket United Determined Excellence Dynamic Integrity • Work with the WGDM to identify talented female cricketers within the club and school network 2 Competition • Attend all matches/tournaments of the senior national team & PA, and where possible under 17’s, u15’s and regional cricket (senior and youth). • Work with the operations department to develop a suitable senior regional competition • As and when available, observe national youth and senior players in domestic competition. • Actively liaise with player’s educational institutions and workplaces regarding availability for competitions. • Prepare well for all matches/competition. • Report on player performances in matches and tournaments 3 Leadership • Establish and maintain team vision and team values, standards and protocols that fit within the goals of Cricket Scotland and are shared among the squads and management teams. • Provide leadership of the team and team management through on- going communication and dealing with challenges and conflicts. • Demonstrate personal credibility, honesty and integrity and ability to handle stress. 4 Team • Prepare the senior & PA squads to participate in all competitions – Development domestic, ECB, national and international. • Develop an outstanding Scotland Women’s cricket team supported by talent development programmes and structures. • Create a team culture that promotes unity and commitment to high performance on and off the field. • Provide programmes of training that maximise the team’s chances of success in competition. • Develop an understanding in players of what is required to be an athlete at High Performance level. 5 Talent Scouting, • Identify, recruit, manage and support talent scouts as part of a Recruitment and Scottish network. Player • Establish and manage a player talent database and benchmarking development system. • Observe and review as many players as possible throughout the season. • Work with the WGDM to identify talented players from clubs and schools • Utilise CS staff and consultants (in consultation with the HPM & PPM) to help develop an appropriate player development programme. • Manage, administer, and help deliver coaching programmes for the women’s performance squad, performance academy players and regional teams (where applicable). • Work with consultant coaches to provide video footage and analysis and present to players. • Plan and deliver 1:1 and small group coaching sessions to players when available. • Work with the Women and Girls’ Development Manager and Development team ensuring the participation end of the pathway is closely linked. 6 Selection • Attend and report to National Women’s Selection Committee meetings. Inspiring Scotland to choose cricket United Determined Excellence Dynamic Integrity • Contribute to the selection of the senior squad and youth teams. • Communicate criteria, values and policy to players and management team. • Manage information around selection in a confidential/discrete way. • Communicate selection decisions to players according to protocols. • Manage communication with players not selected in an effective/empathetic style. 7 Relationship • Provide positive working relationships with all squad members, development selectors, management team, coaches, and support staff. • Provide regular and on-going communication and feedback to players. • Provide positive relationships with CS administration, CS Committees, representatives of CS, ICC, ICC Europe, sportscotland, SIS, supporters, sponsors, and media. • Advertise and promote women’s programmes and participate in joint promotions with CS, ICC and sportscotland. • Participation in commercial, promotional activities for CS and its sponsors. 8 Financial • Be involved (with the HPM & PPM) in the day-to-day finances of the Management women and girls’ programme budget. • Be involved in the setting and maintaining of the women and girls’ programme budget. Working Hours Due to the nature of the business a flexible approach to weekly contracted working hours (37.5) is to be expected. Inspiring Scotland to choose cricket United Determined Excellence Dynamic Integrity Background and Experience The successful candidate should have the following skills, education, and experience: Educational and Professional Qualifications Essential • Hold a current ECB Level 3 Performance coach award or equivalent for at least 2 years, AND/OR has at least 5 years’ experience working with female international cricketers in an elite environment. Desirable • ECB Level 4 Master Coach or been engaged on the programme for 12 months. • A Degree (or equivalent qualification) ideally in a sport-related subject.
