Take two pages of notes with your insights and quotations from the books to submit during the first week of class. You will also be asked to do a timed essay on the books you read. The timed essay will be the basis for a 5- to 7-page research paper, which will be completed in steps starting with research periods, continuing with outline and draft, and culminating with a final paper. The timed essay must be about both books, but students may decide to write the research paper about one book only. The research paper must have quotations from primary and secondary sources.
