As we look forward to another new year, the SOMC Development Foundation celebrates the generosity of friends and community members like you who have helped contribute to another successful year of fundraising and support for southern Ohio and northern Kentucky.

The Transcending Lives campaign is near completion. That marks a significant moment in our goal of continuing to provide support and care for Hospice patients and their families. We anticipate ground breaking for the new Hospice addition in the coming spring.

Other funds have also done well this year, allowing us to support cancer and heart patients, diabetes sufferers, community projects, and much more. Thanks to the generosity of the Donaldson family, we are proud to have distributed our first scholarship from the Jim and Clara Donaldson Scholarship Fund.

The SOMC Development Foundation Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2018 recognizes our donors and highlights our accomplishments during the period of July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018.

The SOMC Development Foundation encompasses fundraising efforts for the Hospice Caritas Fund, Cancer Compassion Fund, Breast Cancer Compassion Fund, Employee Relief Fund, Heart & Vascular Fund, Pediatric Fund, Community Health & Wellness Fund, Endowment Fund, Jim and Clara Donaldson Scholarship Fund, Juvenile Diabetes Fund and the Annual Fund which covers the areas of greatest need. These funds generate much needed support and enable SOMC to continually deliver extraordinary care for future generations.

We’re here to make a difference in our community. Our goal is to help provide much needed resources that will help sustain the health care needs of our community members. We engage in fundraising efforts to help support initiatives throughout SOMC and our community. This support ranges from the purchase of new equipment and technology to upgrading facilities as well as other community projects that address our community’s health and wellness needs. Support and funds raised by the Development Foundation enable SOMC to respond to challenges and new opportunities as they arise.

They achieved their goal in 2017, raising $97,256.90 as part of their effort to advance the mission of SOMC. This year, the support from the Guilds allowed SOMC to purchase items such as heart care equipment for both patient care and staff needs, breast pumps for Maternity as well as make donations to the SOMC Cancer Compassion Fund, Pediatric Nursery and SOMC Hospice Center. 8 SOMC Employees Making a Difference Each year, employees of Southern Ohio Medical Center have the opportunity to payroll deduct donations to local nonprofits. The employee giving program, Make a Difference, takes place on an annual basis with a kick off in August where employees select their charities and pledge to donate. In FY18, more than 1,100 employees participated and pledged more than $143,000! Friends Community Center The Friends Community Center is an 8,600 square foot facility with a stage and state- of-the-art audiovisual equipment installed in each of three connecting rooms. Summing Up Summer Soirée 2017

On August 5th, guests traveled to the rolling hills of Kentucky for a delightful summer evening held at the Ron & Connie LeMaster Farm. The evening kicked off with a welcome cocktail followed by an exquisite dinner and gourmet desserts including an ice cream cart. Guests danced the night away and played classic summertime activities such as corn hole and giant jenga throughout the evening. The Soirée also featured a sangria bar and caricature artist. To end the evening, everyone gathered under the star-lit sky for a grand finale of fireworks that were generously donated by RGS Fireworks! Proceeds from Summer Soirée benefitted the SOMC Transcending Lives Campaign.

Hospice Memorial Ride The 9th Annual SOMC Hospice Memorial Ride was a success with $35,914 raised towards the Hospice Caritas Fund! Many bikers came out to enjoy the beautiful day and ride with a record breaking total of 380 riders. Marketing Liaison/Coordinator of Hospice Relations Mackenzie Coakley, said “Something really neat that happened at the Memorial Ride this year was that the split- the-pot raised more than it had in recent years. When we announced that Bob Ealey had won, he decided to donate his entire winnings back to Hospice—that was a little over $700 and contributed greatly to our total amount fundraised that day!”

11 SOMC’s 2018 Golf Tournament

We had a great time at our annual golf tournament, held at the Elks Country Club. The annual event raised money for the Community Health and Wellness Fund all while enjoying a day on the course.

SOMC Paints it Pink with Annual Run/Walk/Bike Event Southern Ohio Medical Center painted the town pink with a slew of community-wide activities that coincided with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October 2017. In addition, SOMC hosted its annual Paint it Pink Run/Walk/ Bike event. The community support of this worthy cause is invaluable.

Winter Wonderland

Southern Ohio Medical Center began celebrating the holiday season with the annual Winter Wonderland Ball on Nov. 17 at the SOMC Friends Community Center. The Friends Center was converted into a beautiful ski lodge for the evening decorated with frosted trees, fresh pine, and a “star-lit” sky. Guests participated philanthropically in the evening by purchasing presents from the legendary gift wall and bidding on four lavishly decorating holiday trees.

The annual ball was the beginning of the hospital’s month-long holiday fundraising activities, which included the Winter Wonderland Train Show and the Polar Express Pajama Party. In addition, the Winter Wonderland ball kicked off the Development Foundation’s end-of-year signature campaign towards the Annual Fund. This year’s events raised funds for the Annual Fund, which in return supports the hospital’s area of greatest need, the Hospice Expansion Project.

12 A Whole Lot of Love

The SOMC Development Foundation celebrated heart month all of February by selling t-shirts, having a quilt raffle and hosting the third Pamper Your Heart ladies event. Proceeds from all of the activities went directly to the Heart & Vascular Fund which in return helps patients going through financial difficulty afford cardiovascular therapy.

The annual heart event, Pamper Your Heart, was a fun, ladies night out filled with shopping from local vendors, hors d’oeuvres, wine, sign painting by DIY deSIGNS and heart education from Director of Critical Care and Heart & Vascular Services Amy Fraulini. Amy stated, “This evening is so important to the women of our community because it not only gives them a night out to relax and pamper themselves for a change but it also provides education and facts on heart disease prevention as well as how to be proactive in taking care of your heart.”

Hike for Hospice Approximately 500 walkers showed up to support the patients and staff members of SOMC Hospice during the Annual Hike for Hospice, which took place on May 19 at the SOMC East Campus. The event is held as a tribute to all hospice patients and their families and the proceeds raised benefitted the SOMC Hospice Caritas Fund. Approximately $80,000 was collected at this year’s hike!

40th Annual Run For Your LIFE Rain or shine, nothing stopped the dedicated participants who showed up to the 40th Annual Run For Your LIFE! Athletes had the option to complete a 5K run/walk, 10K run/bike or a duathlon.
