Day 2 Strasbourg - Sélestat 25/35/55 km Your first cycle will give you choices for your ride from Strasbourg along the Rhône-Rhine canal. The very scenic cycle trail takes you through the villages of Ried along and into Osthouse/Sermersheim or Sélestat. Day 3 To Colmar 50/55/65 km Today’s cycle takes you through the landscapes and villages of the Alsatian Ried, which is rich in aquatic flora and fauna. You will have time to visit the very beautiful Baroque church at Ebersmunster and time to explore this very pretty part of Alsace. Colmar's charming “old town” is the main attraction. It is stunningly beautiful and well pre- served. Take the opportunity to stroll along Colmar's old streets and its many shops. Day 4 Mulhouse / Ottmarsheim 65 km Considered to be the heart of the Alsace region, Ottmarsheim is a lovely little town. It’s dominated by the Romanesque Abbey, a won- derful place to stop and visit for a little while. Next you enter the Hardt’s forest following along the Huningue’s canal to reach Mul- house. Enjoy exploring the historic town centre of Mulhouse, and its numerous museums and cafes. Day 5 Guebwiller 35 km You will leave the banks of the Rhine and the villages of the Sundgau and ride to Ungersheim, until the Ecomusee d’Alsace. Ride along to the town of Guebwiller, nestled in the foothills of the Vosges and known for the Murbach Abbey. It has some wonderful cultural festi- vals and a vivid art life. Day 6 Riquewihr 48 km At the foot of the Vosges nestle the winemaking villages that produce the Alsatian Grand Crus: Eguisheim, Turckheim, Kaysersberg and Riquewihr. Riquewihr is the jewel in the crown - famous for the Ries- ling and other great Alsace Grand Crus produced here - and looks to- day exactly as it did in the 16th Century. Riquewihr is a wonderful and romantic little medieval city hidden between the Vosges mountains and some of the most famous vineyards in Alsace. Day 7 Riquewihr - Obernai 50 km Along the wine route you will discover the villages of Boersch, Barr, Andlau and its abbey, Bergheim, Ribeauvillé, Hunawihr. This Alsatian town’s charm is built on its ramparts, its traditional, half-timbered houses, its Belfry and its town centre, all steeped in history. You will be enchanted by its many aspects: it is a town of culture, sport, busi- ness, cuisine, history and flowers. Obernai is actually one of the “Most Beautiful Detours of France”. Day 8 Obernai - Strasbourg 40 km Country roads and cycle tracks will take you from Rosheim (11th C Romanesque church) to Avolsheim. From there, along the cycle track on the banks of the Bruche canal, you will reach the capital of Europe. What to Expect What will the weather be like? The beginner will enjoy this, since there are no real hills to climb and it will not be steep. Having said that, sitting on a bike for 4 hours a day without any preparation will be chal- lenging. What are the hotels like? The hotels are lovely, charming, small French hotels. All will have a breakfast room, and many will have a restaurant for dinner. The hotels are chosen specifically for their ambiance as well as distance from previous lodging. What will the meals be like? Breakfast in France is traditionally a continental breakfast, consisting of orange juice, bread or croissant, and fruit.     THE JEWISH PRESENCE IN SOUFFLENHEIM By Robert Wideen : 2018 Soufflenheim Genealogy Research and History www.soufflenheimgenealogy.com Jews are first mentioned in Alsace in the 12th century. There were 522 families in 1689 and 3,910 families in 1784, including four families totaling 19 people in Soufflenheim. By 1790, the Jewish population in Alsace had grown to approximately 22,500, about 3% of the population. They maintained their own customs, spoke Yiddish, and followed Talmudic laws enforced by their Rabbis. There was a Jewish presence in Soufflenheim since the 15th century, and probably earlier. By the late 1700’s there was a Jewish street in the village, a Jewish lane on the outskirts, a district known as Juden Weeg, and a Jewish path in the Judenweg area of the Haguenau Forest leading to the Jewish Forest Road.     EMW - Workshops EMW 2005 EARLY MODERN WORKSHOP: Jewish History Resources Volume 2: Jews and Urban Space, 2005, University of Maryland Rural Jews in Alsace Debra Kaplan, Yeshiva University, USA ABSTRACT: From 1348/9-1477, the Jews of Alsace were expelled from the cities in which they had lived throughout the Middle Ages. While many opted to leave the Empire for centers in Eastern Europe and Italy, some Jews remained, moving to the towns and villages in the countryside. By the 1470's, the majority of Alsatian Jews lived in rural areas. Quotas often dictated residential policies in towns and villages, so it was not uncommon to find one or two Jewish families per village/town. The following documents detail the relationship of rural Alsatian Jews, as represented by their communal leaders, with two Alsatian cities, Strasbourg and Hagenau.     COLOURS OF FRANCE 6 NIGHTS / 7 DAYS ALSACE WALK PASSION TOUR Day 1 : Arrival in Strasbourg Strasbourg, seat of the new European Parliament, is an ancient and lively city, filled with treasures to explore. It was named a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1988, the first city to be honoured with the title in its entirety. This tour allows you time to meander the canals, cobblestoned streets, and small boutiques of Strasbourg. Visit the old town, its picturesque quarters and half-timbered houses in the neighbourhood known as "The Petite France". Visit the Gothic cathedral and its famous astronomical clock, and the European Parliament. Be sure to sate your appetite as well with the pastries, giant soft pretzels and fresh cheeses at every corner. Day 2 : Rosheim to Obernai 13 Km After breakfast, we transfer you westwards, to the base of the Vosges Mountains that you will be skirting along and exploring for the rest of the week. You start in the pretty village of Rosheim with the Romanesque Saint Peters and Paul Church, and its three medieval town gates, and its small rose- gardens, as well as the Romanesque house, recognized as the oldest in the region, and beautifully restored. After explorations in town, your walk takes you up in the hills, through the small village of Rosenwiller, with its Jewish cemetery – the largest and oldest in Alsace. From there, descend into the vineyard village of Boersch, with its three fortified medieval gateways and magnificent Renaissance town hall. You can stop to explore the town, perhaps do a wine tasting, and find some lunch or a cold refreshment.

LONDON 1899 PREFACE --+- THE following Introduction to the Creeds· and to the Early History of the Te Deum has been designed, in the first instance, for the use of students reading for the Cambridge Theological Tripos. I have edited all the Creed-forms set for that examination, with the exception of three lengthy formularies, which belong rather to a history of doctrine than to my present subject. These are-the letter of Cyril to N estorius, the letter of Leo to Flavian, and the Definition of the Council of Chalcedon. The subject is of supreme importance to all teachers of Church doctrine ; and the only excuse for adding to the number of books which already deal with it, is the desire to enable others to gather the first-fruits of many writers and of recent researches in England and abroad.
