Whilst this may be in part to the new Historic Vehicle 60 Day Scheme, many have not taken up that option or their vehicles are still under restoration. What I realized is that I have not acknowledged these new additions to our club. I asked Sue Pulo (Membership Officer) to provide me with the names of those who have joined (or re-joined) in the past 12 months. (If you predate that...welcome also!) So, in no particular order, I would like to (belatedly) welcome the following people; Kevin & Melinda Sturgiss—2 x S Series Under Restoration David Rouse—S Series Under Restoration Allan Etheridge—R Series Under Restoration Craig Keogh—R Series Original Patrick Mahanay—S Restored Modified Steven Town—2 x R Series and 1 x S Series Under Restoration Ryan Punch—3 x S Series Under Restoration Ken Clark—R Series Under Restoration Tony Wills—R Series Restored Authentic Rod Anderson—S Series Restored Authentic Syd & Kerrie Coomes—S Series Restored Modified Matt Waller—R Series Under Restoration Authentic Brian Newton—S Series Under Restoration Steven MacDonald—R Series Restored Authentic Hugo Kaag—S Series Restored Modified. Of course, with nearly 90 members (and growing), space here does not allow me to mention you all by name but as a club, we value your being a part of what we share. On another note, after seeing many misquotes on paint and interior schemes for our cars, I thought it was time to set the record straight. You will find copies of the original Valiant by Chrysler Paint & Trim Combinations for both R and S Series vehicles on pages 8 & 9. Hopefully, this will serve as a valuable reference guide. Thank you to the contributing authors for this edition, Paul R. Baker and Kathryn Williams. It always makes my life a little easier. Colin Kenny-Levick President R & S Series Valiant Car Club of NSW Page 5 of 24 Issue 193 A Valiant Story By (Sir) Paul R. Baker Sixteen Years ago, having fond memories from seeing the then, newly released 1962 R & S Series Valiants, I purchased a white Manual S Series with NSW Registration CUX-552. Not long after, I tracked down the NSW R & S Valiant Club and joined up. I bestowed my S with the fitting name “ Prince” (Valiant). The two previous owners lived in the suburbs of Lake Macquarie, not far from me. We have participated in many ACD’s Motorfests, CMC Eastern Creek days, Chromefest, Kurri Kurri festi- vals and Maitland Steamfests. It has gone on runs from Port Macquarie to the South Coast of NSW. “Prince” has had a paint respray before I became the owner but is in original condition, otherwise. Donnison Street Gosford—1967 Paul also sent in an article from Coastline Community News from September 27, 2018 describing the proposed develop- ment of a cultural precinct and an image of the area back in 1967 with a 5 year old Valiant parked on the street.

  • Series Valiant Car Club of NSW Page 2 of 24 Issue 168
www.1962valiantclub.com December / January 2014/15 Issue 168. Veteran, Vintage & Classic Vehicle Insurance 1800 646 605 Finding the right kind of insurance can be hard, especially when you own a rare and valuable vehicle that has unique insurance needs. There are a number of things you should consider when looking for insurance for your special vehicle. Make sure the policy has an Agreed Value option. This allows you to include extras such as any work that has been done to restore or improve its condition, that wouldn’t usually be considered in a standard market value. The option of Salvage retention is especially important for owners of veteran, vintage or classic vehicles, as this feature allows owners to keep the wreck after an accident as a potential to rebuild or a source of parts. Please review conditions of this carefully as with some insurers there is an extra cost involved or the vehicle has to be of a certain age. Many restorers of veteran, vintage or classic vehicles require cover for vehicles under restoration. Make sure your vehicle is covered on and off the road. Other policy features such as choice of re- pairer are also worth considering. The most important thing to remember is to always read your policy documents and weigh up all the pros and cons, financial or otherwise, because only you can decide what cover is best for your vehicle. NRMA Insurance will take as much care of your classic vehicle as you do. Our Veteran, Vintage and Classic Vehicle Insurance policy is designed for vehicles used for hobby and recreational purposes and includes cover up to the agreed value, faultless excess and retention of salvage after an accident (for vehicles manufactured prior to 31/12/1980).

  • Battle of the Compacts at Continental Divide Sports Illustrated - November 23, 1959
Battle of the Compacts at Continental Divide Sports Illustrated - November 23, 1959 A Rambler drew first blood, but it was hard to choose between Falcons and Corvairs By Alfred Wright The first meaningful argument between the new Detroit compact cars took place in an auto race outside Denver last Sunday and ended up in pretty much of a draw as far as the Ford Falcon and Chevrolet Corvair were concerned. For neither of them won the race. But a secondhand Rambler did—and very convincingly at that. Yet there were enough mitigating circumstances and genuine excuses lying around at the end of this very grueling six- hour endurance test to satisfy a whole floor full of Detroit brass hats. To begin with, the "First International Small Car Marathon," as the Denver Sports Car Club so grandly named its race, was rather hastily organized. Sid Langsam and Ray Lavely, a pair of energetic Denverites who, respectively, own and manage the Continental Divide Raceways, wanted to be the first to stage a contest between the Detroit compacts. They had to beat Sebring, which is planning a similar event before its Grand Prix race of December 12, and Daytona, whose compact race is scheduled for January. So they signed up a group of Denver's Corvair and Falcon dealers who figured they could quickly organize teams. Of the seven Chrysler Valiant dealers in Denver, not one could dredge up more than a single specimen, so after a certain amount of hemming and hawing the Valiant was scratched. The field finally went to the post at 9 a.m.
