Everything at Giodo is underpinned by the concept of uncompromising quality. The entire process takes its start from the selection of clones and vines that are ideal for producing wines that are elegant, well-balanced and with impressive length. Every decision, every individual detail, whether in the vineyard or the winecellar, is of the greatest importance and merits full and meticulous attention. Those small details are the indispensable tesserae that compose the mosaic that Carlo Ferrini’s experience and expertise makes absolutely unique, the creation that his extraordinary passion has successfully handed on to his daughter Bianca. Giodo Toscana IGT, Carlo Ferrini 2016 130 Sangiovese – Toscana, Italy 96 James Suckling - 92 Robert Parker Crushed berries, orange peel and black cherries. So aromatic. Full-bodied, tight and reserved with tight and chewy tannins, which are so fine and polished. Love the energy in the fruit and acidity. Just a hint of bitterness. So good to drink now, but will age beautifully Giodo, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Carlo Ferrini 2013 280 Sangiovese Grosso – Montalcino, Italy 96James Suckling - 95 Robert Parker Plenty of dried fruit with figs and mushroom undertones. Full body, silky tannins and a ripe fruit, lemon rind and spice aftertaste. Condenses down to a refined and beautiful finish. Vivid acidity. Giodo, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Carlo Ferrini 2015 450 Sangiovese Grosso – Montalcino, Italy 100 James Suckling – 97+ Robert Parker This is a splendid Brunello, showing extraordinary purity of sangiovese character. Cherry and floral aromas and flavors. Full-bodied with incredibly integrated tannins that seem like they are not there. But they are and are comprehensive on the palate. Great depth and agility. Just floats on the palate. Magic carpet. Drinkable, to enjoy the magic, but needs three or four years to come around Alberelli di Giodo, Carlo Ferrini 2016 150 Nerello Mascalese – Sicilia, Italy 94 James Suckling - 94 Robert Parker This is the first vintage of famed Italian wine consultant Carlo Ferrini's own Etna wine, and it is a lovely debut. It has a charming nose of red cherries, vanilla, spice and white chocolate. A very Burgundian–style Nerello Mascalese with great purity and precision. Supremely elegant and seductive. 3 WINE BY THE GLASS (SOMMELIER SUGGESTION) WHITE LUXURY GLASS 5 OZ Pinot Grigio Sanct Valentin, St. Michael-Eppan 2017 24/120 Pinot Grigo – Trentino Alto Adige, Italy The 2017 Alto Adige Pinot Grigio Sanct Valentin is a fragrant and expressive wine that shows passion and tropical fruits backed by a touch of puff pastry. This wine offers more volume and texture than your standard Pinot Grigio, and that barrique and tonneaux aging does leave its mark. The wine ends with honey and sweet almond paste. You definitely feel the added richness and concentration of the sunny and hot vintage. Plumpjack, Reserve Chardonnay 2018 29/140 Chardonnay – Napa Valley, California The 2018 PlumpJack Chardonnay is packed with the fresh aromas of Meyer lemon, pomelo, green pear, honeysuckle, and orange blossom with a touch of toast and apple cinnamon. The palate is creamy, silky, and bright, giving the sensations of great weight and vibrant freshness. Poggio alle Gazze, Ornellaia 2016 36/180 Sauvingon Blanc, Viogner, Vermentino – Toscana, Italy Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia, owes its elegant Mediterranean style to the Estate’s unique microclimate. This gift of nature allows Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia, with its predominance of Sauvignon Blanc, to display a firm structure and ripe fruit while maintaining great finesse. 4 WINE BY THE GLASS (SOMMELIER SUGGESTION) RED LUXURY GLASS 5 OZ Giodo Toscana IGT, Carlo Ferrini 2014 29/130 Sangiovese – Toscana, Italy Lush cherry and blackberry fruit, leather, spice and tannins that provide zest and tone to this sensational Tuscan red. Alberelli di Giodo, Carlo Ferrini 2016 35/150 Nerello Mascalese – Sicilia, Italy This is the first vintage of famed Italian wine consultant Carlo Ferrini's own Etna wine, and it is a lovely debut. It has a charming nose of red cherries, vanilla, spice and white chocolate. A very Burgundian–style Nerello Mascalese with great purity and precision. Supremely elegant and seductive. Madonna Nera, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015 37/160 Sangiovese Grosso – Toscana, Italy The wine is intense, dense, tight, and deep in flavor with the cherry fruits of the Sangiovese bursting through along with spicy peppery flavours balancing the wine and pulling it altogether. Trefethen Vineyards 2018 37/160 Cabernet Sauvignon – Napa Valley, California Deep purple ruby in color, the wine has fruit driven aromas of plum, cherry and a hint of bay leaf. The palate is rich and concentrated with flavors of red fruits, baking spice and vanilla. 5 WINE BY THE GLASS SPARKLING Moscato d’Asti DOCG, Moncalvina, Coppo 2019 16 Moscato – Piemonte, Italy Il Sogno, Vino Frizzante 2019 17 Fiano and Malvasia – Campania, Italy Brut Rose, Ferrari NV 23 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir – Trentino Alto Adige, Italy G.H. JUDGMENT OF PARIS California vs. France and the Historic 1976 Paris Tasting That Revolutionized Wine GEORGE M. TABER SCRIBNER New YrHk London Toronto Sydn PART FOUR THE NEW WORLD OF WINE The Pans Tasting destroyed the myth of.French supremacy and marked dze democrati{ation ofthe wine world. It was a water shed in the histoCY o/wine. -ROBERT M. PARKER JR., 2001 CHAPTER TWENTY The Buzz Heard Round the World Wine is sunlight, held together by water. -GALILEO he June 7, 1976, issue of Time magazine hit newsstands in New T York City and a few other major metropolitan areas on Monday morning, May 31. The cover story was about a scandal involving the honor system at West Point. Back on page 58 in the Modern Living section was a modest story entitled "Judgment of Paris." The lead story of the sec tion was about a new theme park in Atlanta, and my article about the wine tasting filled out the last column. No photograph accompanied the Paris article, the normal sign of a significant story. In fact, the page it was on was overwhelmed by an ad for Armstrong tires. The last sentence of the first paragraph told it all: "Last week in Paris, at a formal wine tasting organized by Spurrier, the unthinkable happened: California defeated all Gaul." The day after the Time story appeared, something unusual was hap pening at Manhattan's Acker Merrall & Condit, America's oldest wine shop, then located on the Upper West Side on Broadway between West Eighty sixth and West Eighty-seventh streets.

  • Trefethen Vineyards Is a Family Operated Vineyard and Winery in The
2017 Harvest Intern Trefethen Family Vineyards is looking for enthusiastic and passionate applicants for our winery intern positions. The internship program at Trefethen runs from July until December, and includes exposure to all facets of wine production. The interns play a vital role in assessing vineyard block maturity, preparing the winery for harvest, receiving/processing fruit, monitoring fermentations, performing lab analysis, and gathering data to enhance the production of premium wines. We are a family owned estate winery in the Oak Knoll District with 450 planted acres. Our location allows us to successfully grow a range of cultivars including riesling, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, malbec, and petit verdot. In addition to our main ranch on the valley floor, we have a hillside property nearby devoted exclusively to Bordeaux varietals. We believe the best way to produce wines of the highest quality is to be in control of each step of the process from growing the grapes to bottling the finished wines. Our vineyard and winemaking teams work hand in hand to craft classic Napa wines that are a reflection of the Oak Knoll District. The internship involves extensive experience in both the laboratory and the cellar, as well as time in the vineyard. When working in the lab, the interns work closely with the winemaking team and are involved in all tastings. The internship includes significant independent work and is geared at preparing individuals for future careers in the industry.
