The lepidopteran fauna of the former military training area near Oleško (Czech Republic: Ústecký Region) was studied in the year 2008. This area is on sandy ground, the predominant habitats are dry Scots pine forests growing on sand. 700 species were recorded, many of them are markedly psammophilous. Some characteristic spe- cies are very abundant there, namely on open habitats Aroga velocella (Zeller, 1839), Teleiopsis diffinis (Haworth, 1828), Platytes alpinellus (Hübner, 1813), Pyrausta ostrinalis (Hübner, 1796), Paradrina selini (Boisduval, 1840), Agrotis vestigialis (Hufnagel, 1766), Eilema pygmaeolum (Doubleday, 1847), some other species were only recorded individually (Aristotelia brizella (Treitschke, 1833), Helcystogramma lineolellum (Zeller, 1839), Pediasia fasce- linella (Hübner, 1813), Lythria cruentaria (Hufnagel, 1767) and Hadena irregularis (Hufnagel, 1766)). Comparative Morphology of the Male Genitalia in Lepidoptera
COMPARATIVE MORPHOLOGY OF THE MALE GENITALIA IN LEPIDOPTERA. By DEV RAJ MEHTA, M. Sc.~ Ph. D. (Canta.b.), 'Univefsity Scholar of the Government of the Punjab, India (Department of Zoology, University of Oambridge). CONTENTS. PAGE. Introduction 197 Historical Review 199 Technique. 201 N ontenclature 201 Function • 205 Comparative Morphology 206 Conclusions in Phylogeny 257 Summary 261 Literature 1 262 INTRODUCTION. In the domains of both Morphology and Taxonomy the study' of Insect genitalia has evoked considerable interest during the past half century. Zander (1900, 1901, 1903) suggested a common structural plan for the genitalia in various orders of insects. This work stimulated further research and his conclusions were amplified by Crampton (1920) who homologized the different parts in the genitalia of Hymenoptera, Mecoptera, Neuroptera, Diptera, Trichoptera Lepidoptera, Hemiptera and Strepsiptera with those of more generalized insects like the Ephe meroptera and Thysanura. During this time the use of genitalic charac ters for taxonomic purposes was also realized particularly in cases where the other imaginal characters had failed to serve. In this con nection may be mentioned the work of Buchanan White (1876), Gosse (1883), Bethune Baker (1914), Pierce (1909, 1914, 1922) and others. Also, a comparative account of the genitalia, as a basis for the phylo genetic study of different insect orders, was employed by Walker (1919), Sharp and Muir (1912), Singh-Pruthi (1925) and Cole (1927), in Orthop tera, Coleoptera, Hemiptera and the Diptera respectively. It is sur prising, work of this nature having been found so useful in these groups, that an important order like the Lepidoptera should have escaped careful analysis at the hands of the morphologists. -

Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society No. 36 (2012) ADDITIONS, DELETIONS AND CORRECTIONS TO AN ANNOTATED CHECKLIST OF THE IRISH BUTTERFLIES AND MOTHS (LEPIDOPTERA) WITH A CONCISE CHECKLIST OF IRISH SPECIES AND ELACHISTA BIATOMELLA (STAINTON, 1848) NEW TO IRELAND K. G. M. Bond1 and J. P. O’Connor2 1Department of Zoology and Animal Ecology, School of BEES, University College Cork, Distillery Fields, North Mall, Cork, Ireland. e-mail: <[email protected]> 2Emeritus Entomologist, National Museum of Ireland, Kildare Street, Dublin 2, Ireland. Abstract Additions, deletions and corrections are made to the Irish checklist of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera). Elachista biatomella (Stainton, 1848) is added to the Irish list. The total number of confirmed Irish species of Lepidoptera now stands at 1480. Key words: Lepidoptera, additions, deletions, corrections, Irish list, Elachista biatomella Introduction Bond, Nash and O’Connor (2006) provided a checklist of the Irish Lepidoptera. Since its publication, many new discoveries have been made and are reported here. In addition, several deletions have been made. A concise and updated checklist is provided. The following abbreviations are used in the text: BM(NH) – The Natural History Museum, London; NMINH – National Museum of Ireland, Natural History, Dublin. The total number of confirmed Irish species now stands at 1480, an addition of 68 since Bond et al. (2006). Taxonomic arrangement As a result of recent systematic research, it has been necessary to replace the arrangement familiar to British and Irish Lepidopterists by the Fauna Europaea [FE] system used by Karsholt 60 Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society No. 36 (2012) and Razowski, which is widely used in continental Europe. -

Faun.-Ökol.Mitt. Summary This paper presents a list of “microlepidoptera” new for Schleswig-Holstein (northern Germany) and in one case ( Ectoedemia albibimaculella (Larsen, 1927)) new for Germany, referring to a compilation by GAEDIKE & HEINICKE (Eds.) 1999. The species mentioned were not caught in the field but detected in museum-material of earlier collectors in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg. For some species of faunistic interest colour illustrations are given. -

Fund Af Småsommerfugle Fra Danmark I 2008 (Lepidoptera)
Fund af småsommerfugle fra Danmark i 2008 (Lepidoptera) Otto Buhl, Per Falck, Ole Karsholt, Knud Larsen & Flemming Vilhelmsen Buh!, 0., P. Falck, O. Karsholt, K. Larsen & F. Vilhelmsen: Records of Micro lepidoptera from Denmark in 2008 (Lepidoptera). Ent. Meddr 77: 65-81. Copenhagen, Denmark 2009. ISSN 0013-8851. This artide reports and comments on interesting Danish Microlepidoptera collected in 2008, and inelude remarkable findings from previous years. The classification and nomenelature follow the Danish catalogue (Karsholt & Sta de! Nielsen, 1998) which is basedon the European checklist (Karsholt & Ra zowski (eds.), 1996) . Two species are reported as new to the Danish fauna: l) Caloptilia fidella (Reutti, 1853) (Gracillariidae). Several specimens were taken on theIsland of Bornholm in two different localities both as adults and larvae. 2) Scrabipalpula tussilaginis (Stainton, 1867) (Gelechiidae). The species has been found as lar va and adult at five different localities in Lolland, Zealand and Bornholm. The host plant is Tussilaga farfara. No specimens have been found in collections and tussilaginis is regarded as a recent immigrant. Phyllonarycter cerasicalella (Herrich-Schaffer, 1855) ( Gracillariidae) has re cently been raised to species level by Triberti (2007) and as a consequence of that i t is reintroduced to the list. A population of Caloptilia hemidactylella (D. & S.) has been found in South Jutland on Acer platanaides and on Acer campestre. Two tropical species ofPyralidae, Hypargyria metalliferella Ragonot, 1888 and Diplopseustis perieresalis (Walker, 1859), were taken in lighttrapsin Denmark. It is a question whether they are introduced species or migrants. A spedallist of species with uncertain status is introduced. The Palm Borer, Paysandisia arehan (Burmeister, 1880) is reported from one larva and one adult, both found o n palms ( Trachycarpus fortune) probably in troduced from Italy. -
Beitrag Zum Vorkommen Der Epermeniidae Im Arbeitsgebiet Der Arbeitsgemeinschaft Rheinisch- Westfälischer Lepidopterologen (Lep., Epermeniidae)
Abstract: Article about the occurrence of Epermeniidae in the working area of the Rheinisch-Westfalia lepidopterologists´study group Ten species of the Epermeniidae family are listed in our working area, including details on habitat and finding data. This is a continuation of the processing of smaller families in our working area which is carried out parallel to the fauna groups. -
