Proposed itinerary for Africa’s Gift tour to Namibia, Chobe and Victoria Falls

Day 1

Route: Johannesburg – . Activities: In transit

Day 2

Route: Upington – Ai-Ais, via Ariamsvlei, and Grünau. Activities: Border crossing into Namibia at Border Post Lunch time stop at Canyon Road House Road Stall. Visit Fish River Canyon viewpoints. Hike along the edge of the Canyon. Enjoy hot springs resort at Ai-Ais with hot water indoor swimming pools. Overnight: Ai-Ais resort Day 3

Route: Ai-Ais – Lüderitz, via Rosh Pinah and Aus. Activities: Experience the scenery of the Ai-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park along the northern bank of the Gariep River. Stop to view the feral horses of the Namib near Garub. Experience the desolated scenery of the transitional desert in the South of Namibia. Explore historic town of Lüderitz on foot. Visit the historic Dias Cross at Dias Point – replica of cross erected in 1488. Overnight: Obelix Village Guest House

Day 4

Route: Lüderitz – Maltahöhe, via Aus and Helmeringhausen. Activities: Visit the historic ghost town at Kolmanskoppe where diamonds were discovered in 1908 (guided tour). Opportunity again to see the feral horses of the Namib. Visit Duwisib Castle (time permitting). Experience the scenery of the Namib on the east of the dune belt. Overnight: Hammerstein Lodge

Day 5

Route: Hammerstein – Solitaire, via Sesriem and Sossusvlei. Activities: Excursion to Sossusvlei on 4x4 vehicles – a dried up marsh at the terminal point of the Tsauchab river. Short hike to Dooie vlei – another dry marsh isolated by the dunes of the Namib. Experience the dune belt of the Namib desert and highest sand dunes in the world. Visit the Sesriem Canyon. Overnight: Solitaire Lodge

Day 6

Route: Solitaire – Swakopmund, via Walvis Bay. Activities: Experience the transition from the dune belt of the central Namib to the gravel plains of the northern Namib. Stop at the Tropic of Capricorn for a photo. Stop at several viewpoints en route, including the Kuiseb Canyon. Town tour of Walvis Bay and photo stop at the salt works and lagoon (with possibility of flamingo’s and pelicans). Climb to the top of the famous Dune 7 and possibility of quad bike excursion into the dunes Overnight: Swakop Restcamp chalets, or alternative

Day 7

Route: Swakopmund local. Activities: Swakopmund is Namibia’s coastal holiday town in the desert. Town tour of Swakopmund. Free time to explore the town and shops; visit Crystal Gallery (gemstones of the desert). Optional Excursions: Catamaran cruise to see dolphins and other marine life in the bay of Walvis Bay; Living Desert 4x4 excursion in the dunes; Scenic flights over the desert. Overnight: Swakop Restcamp chalets, or alternative

Day 8

Route: Swakopmund – Outjo, via Goanikontes, Usakos, Karibib and Omaruru. Activities: Visit the gravel plains of the Namib to view the extraordinary Welwitchia desert plant. Stop at viewpoints to experience the Moon Landscape formed by the Swakop river over millions of years. Visit Goanikontes - an oasis in the desert. Visit Tikoloshe Wood Carvings at Omaruru. Overnight: Etotongwe Lodge

Day 9

Route: Outjo – Tsumeb, via Etosha. Activities: Game drive in Etosha National Park. Drive from rest camp to rest camp, and waterhole to waterhole to experience the wildlife of Etosha. Etosha is a sanctuary for Africa’s wild life where four of the Big Five can be spotted (as well as a variety of other animals). Overnight: Minen Hotel

Day 10

Route: Tsumeb – Bagani, via Otjikoto, Grootfontein and Rundu. Activities: Visit Lake Otjikoto, a dolomite sinkhole near Tsumeb. Stop at Hoba meteorite – the largest metal meteorite ever found on the surface of the earth. Experience the rural communities of the West Caprivi. Overnight on the banks of the Okavango river surrounded by the sounds of the unspoiled African bush. Overnight: Mahango Lodge

Day 11

Route: Mahango Lodge local. Activities: Breakfast boat cruise on the Okavango river, game viewing from the boat. Optional activities: Open vehicle Game drive in Buffalo section of the Bwabwata National Park; fishing for tiger fish or bream on the Okavango river. Afternoon game drive with bus in the Mahango section of the Bwabwata National Park. Opportunity to spot the rare Roan Antelope, Tsessebe and Sable Antelope. Overnight: Mahango Lodge

Day 12

Route: Mahango – Kasane, via Kongola and Katima Mulilo. Activities: Visit the Popa Falls in the Okavango river. The Trans Caprivi Highway takes us through the Bwabwata National Park with the opportunity to spot some animals (including elephant) on the way. Crossing the Kwando river and stop at Kongola - opportunity to shop for African curios. Experience the Zambezi river at Katima Mulilo. Crossing the border into Botswana at Ngoma Bridge with views over Lake Liambezi. The highway takes us through the Chobe National Park with the opportunity to spot some wild animals on the way. Overnight: Thebe River Safaris or similar lodge

Day 13

Route: Kasane local. Activities: Early morning game drive in Chobe National Park on open 4x4 vehicles. Visit the confluence of the Zambezi and Chobe rivers and see the border crossing to Zambia by ferry. Visit the historic baobab tree gaol at the Kasane Police Station. Afternoon sundowner boat cruise on the Chobe river. By far the best way to experience the abundance of Botswana’s wild life in the Chobe National Park. Overnight: Thebe River Safaris or similar lodge

Day 14

Route: Kasane – Victoria Falls. Activities: Crossing border into Zimbabwe at Kazungula Border Post Experience the famous Victoria Falls / Mosi-oa-Tunya world heritage site. Optional activities: Helicopter flight over the falls; bridge slide from Zambia to Zimbabwe over the Zambezi River; bungy jumping from the historic bridge over the Zambezi; sundowner boat cruise on the Zambezi. Visit to the famous Victoria Falls hotel with a possibility to enjoy a “high tea” on their terrace. Overnight: Rainbow Hotel or similar.

Day 15

Route: Victoria Falls – Elephant Sands, via Kazungula and Mpanda Mutenga. Activities: Experience the harmony between man and nature at Elephant Sands. Lodge is built around an elephant waterhole with free roaming wild elephants among the chalets with no fence between you and the wild animals – a true African experience. Overnight: Elephant Sands

Day 16

Route: Elephant Sands – Lephalale, via Nata, Francistown and Palapye. Activities: Crossing border into South Africa at Stockpoort Border Post Enjoy the last evening around a bushveld campfire with a farewell dinner on the banks of the Limpopo river. Overnight: Sebesebe Lodge

Day 17

Route: Lephalale – Johannesburg, via Modimolle and Pretoria. Activities: In transit. Tour ends at Johannesburg, depart from ORTambo airport.

Accommodation is provided in local hotels, guest houses, and Lodges – all rated at 3 stars or higher. We select accommodation establishments based on criteria including location, quality, security, availability of meals, ethical standards.

About this document This proposal document outlines the itinerary and associated quotation for the visit detailed above. Should you accept the quotation, this document forms the basis of the contract created between the client and Africa’s Gift Ltd. Prices While every effort is made to ensure that prices are accurate, we are at the mercy of exchange rate factors. We usually absorb small variations, but reserve the right to amend costs up until the start date. Note on Payments The group size will be limited to 18. We believe that this will enable an intimate experience. A deposit payment of £500 is requested ASAP with the balance requested by 30 June 2019. Payments should be made to Africa’s Gift by bank transfer to The Unity Trust Bank Sort code 608301account number 20354244. Monthly instalments would be acceptable if preferred. Changes The itinerary outlined herein reflects our best interpretation of the discussions to date, aiming to achieve all of the aims of the visit at the appropriate cost level. However, each itinerary is developed individually and can be adapted as required. Please contact us if you require a change for your personal circumstances. Nature of the visit An overland exploration through amazing landscapes, and encountering new communities with whom to share everything Wonderbag. You will be guided in these interactions by your Africa’s Gift facilitator, enabling you to witness the impact of your earlier fundraising*.

*Each participant is requested to fundraise a minimum of £100 for the procurement of Wonderbags for activation.

Health, Safety & Emergency

We have over 15 years’ experience of working with groups on visits to Africa. We understand the rigorous requirements for health and safety and take this work very seriously. Our Tour Leaders hold first aid qualifications and we prepare an Emergency Evacuation Plan for each and every visit, detailing leadership response in an emergency situation.

Why book with us? Your payment to Africa’s Gift is totally safe. Africa’s Gift is a full registered charity and is bound by very exacting laws. Your money will be held in the Unity Trust Bank in a secure fund requiring the authorization of two charity trustees to release payment. Liability Insurance As a company we carry a comprehensive insurance policy which is underwritten by AVIVA Insurance Limited. Our indemnity covers £2,000,000 of public liability.
