Pons Giirí destaquen els que tenen interès des del punt de vista de la història demogràfica del bisbat E de Girona.^ Per això avui ens és plaent de contribuir en aquesta miscel.lània d'homenatge a la seva persona i a la seva obra rescatant de Toblit un cens desconegut que figura en el volum de visites pastorals corresponent als anys 1598-1599,^ quan la diòcesi de Girona era regida pel bisbe castellà Francisco Arévalo de Zuazo.^ El visitador que actuà en nom del bisbe fou Joan Gonzàlez de Arellano, llicenciat en dret i d'origen forà. Començà el llarg recorregut el dia 21 d\)Ctubre de 1598, en què es presentà a la parròquia de Cornellà de Terri, i Tacabà el 2 de febrer de Tany següent, quan finí el trajecte a Sant Julià del Llor. Cal advertir que va ser una visita incompleta, i per això no hi apareixen totes les parròquies del bisbat. Pràcticament no va acostar-se a les que actualment formen part de les comarques de la Selva i del iMaresmc. També passà de llarg d'altres que eren importants o hi havia un monestir (Banyoles, Besalú, la Bisbal, Palamós, Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Torroella de Montgrí, etc). Tanmateix, el redactor del recorregut deixà constància -en la majoria dels casos- del nombre de cases de què es componia cada una de les parròquies que va ser objecte de la visita.
