A hotel manager must have a strong understanding of not only the local culture, but of a variety of popular cultures around the world. For example, if I am managing a hotel near the Los Angeles area and I see that a large tourist group from Japan has booked an extended vacation, it is in my best interest to research the customs and traditions of Japanese culture.
