Don’t forget your camera! • Go to the Museum of Puri Lukisan. This "Palace of Paintings" showcases modern Balinese paintings and drawings and is mandatory for anyone interested in Balinese art. • How about a yoga class? JAVA Day 3 - Ubud → Jakarta (/) Transfer from Barong Resort Ubud to Denpasar Airport. Fly from Bali to Java. Transfer from Jakarta Airport to your hotel, Alila Jakarta. BORNEO Day 4 - Jakarta → Kumai - (D) Transfer from your hotel in Jakarta to Jakarta Airport for your flight to Borneo. Then, you will have a private transfer from Pangkalan Bun Airport in Borneo to Kumai to board the boat. You will meet the boating team – the boatman, the cook, and your expert guide – who will guide you through this amazing adventure! The boat is a traditional klotok, a wooden river boat called the "African Queen" by many previous visitors. It measures 7.3 by 49 feet and can host up to 5 people. Its roof forms the upper deck, from which you can watch the rainforest as you glide by. 550 Washington St, Suite 641, San Diego, CA 92103 Phone: 415-952-0319 Email: [email protected] www.zuzulutravel.com During this peaceful afternoon, we will slowly explore the river and observe the monkeys along the riverside. Dinner will be served on the boat, and you’ll spend the night on the klotok boat. Day 5 - Tanjung Puting National Park – Orangutan Exploration Day - (B/L/D) After breakfast aboard the klotok, you and your boating crew will navigate about 2 hours to Camp Leakey, where older orangutans were reintroduced into the rainforest. Camp Leakey is the perfect spot to hike in the rainforest with your expert guide and forestry rangers. You will appreciate the flora, and you will be enchanted by watching wild orangutans, gibbons, macaques, and birds. Then you will stop at PondokTanguy, the former rehabilitation center for ex-captive orangutans. Lunch will be provided on the boat. In the afternoon, you will visit the feeding station to see rehabilitated orangutans being given additional food. Then, we will navigate back down the river and spend another night on the klotok boat. Day 6 - Tanjung Puting National Park - (B/L/D) There are many interesting trekking trails in the jungle of Tanjung Puting National Park. Today, you can hike deeper into the tropical rainforest of Kalimantan, searching for orangutans and other endemic wildlife of Kalimantan, such as gibbons, red leaf monkeys, deer, and birds. You can also learn how the Dayak tribes survive in the jungle. Our guide team will show you how to identify medicinal plants, poisonous plants, and edible plants. Overnight at the Rimba Lodge. LOMBOK Day 8 - Sanur → Gili Islands in Lombok (/) Transfer from Sanur to Serangan Harbour. Then you will transfer to Gili Trawangan Islands by BWS speed boat. Take a Cidomo (a small horse-drawn carriage traditionally used in Lombok) from Gili Trawangan Pier to Desa Dunia Beda Beach Resort hotel. Tonight, you will stay at Desa Dunia Beda Beach Resort, an eco-friendly luxury lodge. The resort is a unique and secluded village where you can experience the pleasures of a traditional Indonesian lifestyle combined with caring, personalized service. This archipelago, located on the northwest side of Lombok, is comprised of 550 Washington St, Suite 641, San Diego, CA 92103 Phone: 415-952-0319 Email: [email protected] www.zuzulutravel.com three small islands – Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan. Many of the older generation of inhabitants of the Gili Islands still make their living as boatmen, fishermen, and coconut farmers. Gili Meno is home to spectacular dive sites, including Meno Wall, Sea Turtle Point, and Blue Coral Point. The island also hosts Lombok's world-class bird park – Gili Meno Bird Park Resort. From Gili Trawangan, you can easily explore the other Gili Islands during the day, rent a bike, scuba dive or snorkel, swim in the island’s clear waters, or just relax on the beach while getting a wonderful massage. This is your last day in Indonesia. You can take a surf lesson at Senggigi beach, hike around Mt Rinjani, snorkel, go shopping, or just relax on the beach while sipping a delicious Indonesian cocktail. • Getting Started to Get Started for Your Adventure to Bali, All You Really Need Is a Ticket
© Lonely Planet Publications 19 Getting Started To get started for your adventure to Bali, all you really need is a ticket. (Well, maybe also a visa, p344 , a passport, some money…but you get the idea.) The entire island is so well set up for visitors, the Balinese are so welcoming and the climate and weather so agreeable that you really can just hop on a plane and go. Although Lombok isn’t quite as easy, it’s not too hard to find your way around with a little advance preparation. Simply getting to either place is the biggest hurdle (and it’s a low one at that). And as Bali and Lombok reward the spontaneous traveller, they also reward the traveller who plans. This is especially the case in Bali – you can stay at exquisite places, experience unique aspects of the culture and tailor your trip to a remarkable degree with advance work. If you want to make time for real discoveries or just discover some good bargains, you can reap the rewards of forethought. Whatever your travel style, you’ll find the real obstacles to independent travel in this part of the world are few. The islands are used to travellers of all stripes, English is widely spoken and, even if you forgot something at home, you can get it here. WHEN TO GO The best time to visit Bali, in terms of the weather, is during the dry season (April to September). The rest of the year is more humid, cloudier and has more rainstorms, but you can still enjoy a holiday.
