For centuries, Bali has attracted visitors from all over the world, drawn to its Colorful festivals and ceremonies, traditional music and dances, its arts and crafts, delicious cuisine, dramatic underwater world, and friendly people. Whether you want to unwind and chill out on one of Bali's many white sandy beaches, surf the hardcore waves, enjoy some retail therapy in one of the malls or try out your bargaining skills at one of the many traditional markets, there is something for everyone on this tropical island paradise. Why not be adventurous and try some white- water rafting or deep-sea diving? Or simply relax and clear your mind practicing Yoga or Tai Chi. Bali offers you the best of both worlds. Lombok Lombok is an island in the West Nusa Tenggara Province (Nusa Tenggara Barat) and is located between Bali and Sumbawa Island in the eastern part of Indonesia. The population of Lombok is about 3.5 million, and the majority (85%) is Sasak and practice Islam. Their name derives from a type of bamboo raft (sesek), on which they arrived from East Java in the 16th century. Hindus, Christians and Buddhist make up the rest. Approximately, 85,000 Balinese live in Lombok - mainly in the west of Lombok. Lombok's capital, Mataram is a sprawl of several (once separate) towns with fuzzy borders: Ampenan (the port); Mataram (the administrative centre); Cakranegara (the business centre, often called simply 'Cakra') and Bertais and Sweta to the east, where you'll find the bus terminal. Stretching for 12km from east to west it is home to half a million people. The more developed tourist resort of Senggigi is close by. Places in the trip Ubud Ubud is a remarkable town in the middle of the island. For over a century, it has been Bali’s centre for the fine arts, dance and music. While it once was a haven for backpackers, cosmic seekers, artists and bohemians, Ubud is now a popular destination for literati, glitterati and art collectors. Many world-famous people are seen walking the busy streets. Various elegant villas can be found in its outskirts, overlooking some of the most stunning views in the whole province. Ubud is popular with a wide variety of people; backpackers, mystics and high-end travellers alike. The town constantly evolves through people involved with art, nature, anthropology, music, art and architecture. Gili Trawangan Lombok is surrounded by small islands, or Gilis. The most known Gilis are Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan. Travelers reach these islands by boat, which takes approximately 30 minutes. Gili Trawangan is the bigger brother of the Gilis. As most parts of the Gilis, Gili Trawangan is home to stunning beaches and one can walk around the whole island in less than four hours. Gili Trawangan is slightly busier than its neighbours with many restaurants and bars. The main activities are snorkelling, diving, sunbathing and other beach activities. No motorised vehicles are allowed on any of the Gilis, resulting in a laidback cycling and donkey vibe. Senggigi Lombok’s most developed tourist area is Senggigi. An extensive choice of restaurants, bars and other entertainment facilities is available. Approximately three kilometres from Senggigi lies the Kerandangan Nature Reserve with its many trails. Quiet beaches lie just north of the city. Boat trips to the northern Gillis takes one on a scenic ride along the west Lombok Coastline. A small but scenic Hindu temple called Pura Batu Bolong lies just two kilometres south of the town. Nusa Dua Located approximately 22 kilometres from Bali’s capital lies Nusa Dua – a 5-star resort destination. The city is administered under the Kuta South District. Nusa Dua literally means “Two Islands” as there lie two islands in the bay. All along the east side of its peninsular lie many all-in beach resorts with views of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida during clear days. The area is an exciting and bustling place with many great beaches and bays. Entertainment is well organised here with a variety of theatres, restaurants and fine dining possibilities.
