Vdv Wine to Go Va de Vi - Wines "To Go" Price List To Go Reg Red Burgundy Price Price Pinot Noir has been cultivated in the Burgundy region of France since ancient days. Strictly hierarchical, intensely historical, heavily terroir driven and always in demand; geology, climate, chance and skill play a part in making these wines considered the benchmark worldwide. 2016 Les Champs de Themis "Les Bosebuts", Mercurey $42 $80 This is a lovely effort. On the nose lovely red and dark fruits, spices and discrete minerality that is quite forward. On the palate medium concentration, lovely fruit – quite refined style wise, with lovely fruit. 2014 Domaine Bruno Clair "Clos du Fonteny" 1er Cru Monopole, Gevrey-Chambertin $150 $200 There is a delicacy of fruit, the result of shallow and non-iron-rich clays. It still has a mineral spine, but it is very in balance. It's very lifted, especially for Gevrey-Chambertin, which is mostly known for power. 2014 Louis Jadot "Le Chapitre", Côte de Nuits $48 $75 Raspberries, cherries and slight flowery aroma on the nose. A hint of spice, oak and animal notes to add a Burgundian flair. Light bodied, strawberries & tart cherries, good acidity and minerality, light tannins. 2012 Domaine du Château de Meursault, Savigny-lès-Beaune $65 $120 Chateau de Meursault produces the Savigny-Les-Beaune from 4 parcels of land that border the hamlet of Savigny and the appellation’s Premier Cru vineyards. The wine is produced from stony and dark soils, which contribute to its fruity character of cherry, strawberry or blackcurrant. 2015 Chofflet-Valdenaire, Givry 1er Cru ‘Clos de Choue’ $45 $72 This single vineyard offering has a surprising amount of fruit not often seen in Burgundy. The nose reveals shades of Morello cherry and raspberry. On the palate, this wine is full-bodied and refined with plenty of elegance and personality. 2014 Clos Salomon, Givry monopole 1er Cru $74 $110 A very ripe nose of kirsch and extract of red pinot fruit trimmed in earth and fennel leads to rich, fresh and utterly delicious middle weight flavors that are supported by ripe tannins that carry a touch of rusticity on the otherwise long, suave and mouth coating finish. In a word, impressive. 2014 Roblet-Monnot "Saint Francois", Volnay $70 $130 This Volnay is subdued on the nose but there is fine graceful fruit behind. If you can find it due to extreme weather, the 2014 is very highly thought of. Excellent density & red fruit with a touch of darker cherries are the stand-outs on the palate along with the fine persistence. While not solely a 1er Cru some of the grapes are sourced from 1er Cru vineyards Robardelle & Mitans. 2015 Domaine des Meix "Les Murgers des Dents de Chien", St. Aubin 1er Cru $60 $120 Vibrantly bright, with a touch of mahogany. The nose is generous in its complexity with fine and elegant red berry fruits and hints of earthy spices. The palate is medium bodied, soft, juicy and lengthy showing piercing strawberry and cherry fruits layered over a carpet of mushrooms, strawberry leaf and forest floor complexity. Va de Vi - Wines "To Go" Price List To Go Reg Oregon Pinot Noir Price Price The Willamette (pronounced wuh–LAM–iht) Valley in Oregon shares the same latitude, rainfall and sunlight as that of the Burgundy region in France; the site of the most famous Pinot Noir vineyards in the world. This area of the Pacific Northwest has gained an international reputation. Try some of these wines and you will quickly discover why. 2016 Brianne Day "Momtazi Vineyard, McMinnville, Willamette Valley $70 $120 Momtazi Vineyard is a biodynamically certified vineyard nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range. Comprised of primarily uplifted marine sedimentary loams and silt. We love the wild nature of the fruit, delivering power & concentration, offering generous dark and brambly fruit with vibrant acidity. 2015 Domaine Serene "Evenstad Reserve", Willamette Valley $85 $125 Peppery herbal notes populate the nose, leading into flavors of brambly red fruits. The wine gathers strength on the midpalate, finishing with a flourish of strawberry preserves. There's a touch of rhubarb pie and a dusting of cocoa in the mix as well. 2016 Penner Ash, Willamette Valley $50 $75 Juicy blackberry and black cherry with plush flavors of bramble and briary, supported by fine grained tannins that lead into a velvety finish with the essence of dark chocolate. 2017 Bergstrom "Cumberland Reserve", Willamette Valley $60 $85 Full bodied with dark fruit flavors, but also very balanced with vibrant juicy acidity and youthful, sweet tannins. Very lively with a suave texture, very enjoyable young or with some age on it. 2018 "Klee" by Roots Wine Co., Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley $23 $60 Chris Berg has crafted an amazing Pinot mostly sourced from the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. The fruit-driven wine shows soft tannins & avors of dark cherry compote, strawberry, stewed plums and rose oil. 2015 Ken Wright Cellars "Shea Vineyard", Yamhill-Carlton $78 $120 The Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir is floral and spice focused. The wine has a seamless palate weight with red and blue fruits, including anise, cola, raspberry and black cherry. 2015 Domaine Drouhin, Dundee Hills $58 $85 Deep & vibrant, with brilliant color and excellent clarity. Aromatically, quite open, even opulent - a mix of velvety rose petals, violets and spices. The texture is lush and mouth-coating, but well-balanced. Together, they provide definition and intensity, followed by silky tannis with a quite long finish. 2014 Brooks "Temperance Hill", Eola-Amity Hills $40 $80 Medium to full bodied, dark fruit with an herbal earthiness. Ripe raspberry, rhubarb, and game with smoky fruit. The wine carries moderate tannins, slightly stalky with an amazing finish of earth, mineral and fruit. Complex and long lasting. Va de Vi - Wines "To Go" Price List To Go Reg California Pinot Noir Price Price Have the crazy ravings of an unbalanced wine snob caused you to be intrigued about one of the worlds most fascinating wines? Are you looking at the merlot wines with suspicion? Go ahead, see what all the hype is about. 2016 The Hilt, Estate, Santa Rita Hills $40 $65 Oak-roasted black plums, nutmeg, pressed purple flowers and acai aromas make for a smoky yet floral nose. A flash of sweeter boysenberry at the front, then it tightens around crushed rose petals & dark slate. 2017 Waits-Mast, Mendocino County $40 $72 Aromas of cherry and sandalwood lead to satisfying cherry and blueberry fruit. Very sleek and silky with great balance and pleasing finish. 2018 The Fableist, Central Coast $25 $60 Fresh cranberries and raspberries on the palate with gentle nutmeg, clove and just a hint of mushroom. 2017 DuMol "Wester Reach", Russian River Valley $83 $105 Sings of ripe black cherries, plums, red currants and cranberry with touches of violets and underbrush. The palate is packed with tantalizing red & black berry layers with a satiny texture and oodles of freshness. 2017 Anthill Farms "Campbell Ranch", Sonoma Coast $70 $90 Opens with a serious burst of ripe, red fruit. There is terrific depth and intensity, but the oak is showing a bit more prominently than is typically the case with the Anthill Pinots lending this a little more weight. 2017 Merry Edwards, Sonoma Coast $48 $85 Cherry, blackberry, boysenberry & cola are complemented by accents of lightly roasted coffee, cocoa & fresh earth. A generous amount of new oak that adds white pepper, cinnamon & vanilla to its many layers. 2017 Kosta Browne, Sonoma Coast $100 $150 Black & blue fruits on the palate. Focused acidity and a tannic grip that carries towards creamy black cherry, dark plum & dried currant. Great intensity followed by a lingering finish. 2014 Hirsch Vineyards "San Andreas Fault", Sonoma Coast $77 $110 A wine of elegance, restraint & a profoundly old-world fruit character. Dark fruits, figs, pomegranate, orange blossom & bergamot on the nose. Taut acidity, supple tannins & restrained fruit of a cold vintage. 2014 Hirsch Vineyards "Raschen Ridge", Sonoma Coast $100 $130 Emerging from a ridge sitting between the eastern and western sides of the estate, this captures an extraordinary amount of the nuance that's made Hirsch famous. Very hard to find, very special to drink. 2016 Flowers, Sonoma Coast $60 $88 Shy and reserved, evolving into layers of rhubarb, black cherry & tea. Soft with a finish of strawberry cream. 2016 Jigar Wines “Graham Family”, Russian River Valley $25 $64 Raspberry fruit is accented by white pepper notes. Boundless energy on the palate with ripe strawberry. 2016 Williams Selyem "Foss Vineyard", Russian River Valley $100 $155 Relatively full-bodied style from their neighbors across Eastside Rd. Succulent & fleshy, it offers an array of savory notes with a velvety texture. Cola, warm baking spices & orange peel add to the complexity. 2016 Williams Selyem "Rochioli River Block", Russian River Valley $115 $180 Flavors of plum and citrus are backed by a tea-like tannin profile, and a delicate mineral lift. Within this wine is a fascinating interplay of earth and fruit, which should allow for a variety of food pairings. Va de Vi - Wines "To Go" Price List To Go Reg Merlot Price Price French innovation with American development. A recipe for disaster? It’s been a great partnership that has yielded a boon for lovers of smooth, full-bodied red wines. The French invented Merlot, but it was the Americans that made it into what it is today. If only all collaborations worked as well. 2013 Korbin Kameron, Merlot, Moon Mountain District, Sonoma County $36 $64 Brandied cherries, blackberry cinnamon crumble & rose petals. A silky tannin structure's complemented by mouth-watering acidity and brims with concentrated notes of pomegranate, clove, and anise.

  • Roussanne Symposium Recap Notes
RECAP NOTES ROUSSANNE SYMPOSIUM At Tablas Creek Vineyard Tuesday-Thursday, July 22nd-24th, 2008 I. Presentation on history of Roussanne in America (Patrick Comiskey) a) Roussanne is known by as many as 20 surnames b) The first mention of Roussanne in American history is through Thomas Jefferson, who named Hermitage white wines as some of the greatest in the world and imported them into the United States c) The first pre-Phylloxera plantings of Roussanne were in the 19th Century and it was used as a blending grape for Petite Sirah d) Roussanne was planted in the 1870s in Sonoma, Napa and Santa Clara Counties, most notably in Natoma Company's 330-acre plot near Folsom e) However, the dual blows of Phylloxera and Prohibition dramatically decreased plantings in California, and in 1927 the last Roussanne vines were pulled from the Natoma property. f) In 1939, U.C. Davis professors brought back hundreds of varietals from Europe, but did not include Roussanne. g) In modern times, the modest revival of Roussanne can be traced to the enthusiasm of many producers for the Roussanne Vieilles Vignes of Château de Beaucastel. First, Randall Grahm brought in what he believed were Roussanne cuttings from Châteauneuf du Pape (later found to be Viognier) and used them in his Le Sophiste blend with Marsanne. John Alban sourced other Roussanne clones from the Rhone and produced his first varietal wines in 1991. Tablas Creek brought in Roussanne from Beaucastel in 1989, but didn't plant any in the vineyard until 1994. Nearly all Roussanne cuttings in California, Washington and Oregon are descendents of those brought in by Alban or Tablas Creek.

In the 1990s, the family moved their winemaking operation to a 350 acre ranch in Carneros Valley, adopting sustainable farming in 2000, and building the largest solar panelled winery in California.
