Pinot Noir has been cultivated in the Burgundy region of France since ancient days. Strictly hierarchical, intensely historical, heavily terroir driven and always in demand; geology, climate, chance and skill play a part in making these wines considered the benchmark worldwide.

2016 Les Champs de Themis "Les Bosebuts", Mercurey $42 $80 This is a lovely effort. On the nose lovely red and dark fruits, spices and discrete minerality that is quite forward. On the palate medium concentration, lovely fruit – quite refined style wise, with lovely fruit.

2014 Clos Salomon, Givry monopole 1er Cru $74 $110 A very ripe nose of kirsch and extract of red pinot fruit trimmed in earth and fennel leads to rich, fresh and utterly delicious middle weight flavors that are supported by ripe tannins that carry a touch of rusticity on the otherwise long, suave and mouth coating finish. In a word, impressive.

While not solely a 1er Cru some of the grapes are sourced from 1er Cru vineyards Robardelle & Mitans.
