SUMMER HOLIDAYS can mean seeing more children out and about on weekdays. But you may also have spotted some children around during term time because there are now more than a dozen families in Cambourne who choose home education rather than school. Family Art Day at the Hub

MORE THAN 70 CHILDREN and their parents took part in Family Art Day on Saturday 7th July at the Hub - a free community event where children got an opportunity to draw and paint from their imagination on a given theme, along with their parents who were given different themes. A Pop-up Art Gallery was created around the hall and visitors came and looked at the paintings. Every participant received a certificate and a prize to acknowledge their ingenuity and encourage them to continue their passion for arts and creativity. Dr. Shrobona Bhattacharya, Chair of CamCare UK, explained, “Talents within the community must be recognised and cared for. CamCare UK helps in community cohesion and wellbeing of its population, it helps young people and adults to improve their skills and capacity to meet local needs through science, technology, arts, cookery, fundraising and leadership.” Mrs Parul Burman, artist and co-organiser, said, “Children must be given an opportunity to expand their imagination and Boiler Servicing creativity and I am sure more kids and parents will benefit in the coming years through these activities.” Repairs & Installations Jakir Chowdhury of Cam Spice Indian restaurant raised and handed over a cheque for £200 to support Kendall, who is Landlord Certificates battling cancer, by selling lamb biryani, onion bhajis and samosas at the event. CAMBOURNE ELECTRONICS AND ROBOTICS CLUB (CERC) children demonstrated their electronics projects and robots to the public on Sunday 22nd July at Old Blue school. Dr Sujit Bhattacharya, mentor of CERC, said that such events help create a positive societal influence on the young. Sujit has joined the CREST Teacher Advisory Network and outlined the process required to gain the CREST award; the only nationally recognised accreditation scheme for STEM project work. The children then presented and demonstrated their projects, explaining the aims, functions and coding. All participants received a certificate of recognition and will now move on to the next level of coding in Micro:Python. CERC is now running in batches to accommodate more children. The sessions are held on alternate Sundays in the Old Blue School where the children learn how electronics components work, and how different sensors can be used to design various projects, learn to communicate science and take part in group projects.
