(Bob) Balog is a 3rd generation Rancher, Auctioneer & Auction Market Owner, from a heritage ranching family, now in its fifth generation from Milk River, Alberta. A lifetime of support to the agricultural community, and the sincerity with which he embodies Exhibition’s values, make him humble and honored to be named Honorary Parade Marshal for the 2016 Whoop-Up Day’s. Bob, as everyone in Western Canada knows him by, was born and raised in Milk River, and grew up on a purebred and commercial ranching operation. After High School he attended Olds Agricultural College and graduated with Honors with a degree in Animal Science. The intrigue of auctioneering had overwhelmed Bob in college and off to Auction School he went. Bob graduated at the top of his class from Western College of Auctioneering in Billings, Montana, and that was the beginning of a lifetime of working for and serving the public in every way possible. Bob paid his dues, gained his experience and pursued his career with tremendous enthusiasm. All the while he also had a popular dance band that played at least 2 times a week for ten years. In 1980, Bob established Balog Auction Services Inc., in Lethbridge, Alberta and in the past 36 years, Bob has owned and operated 6 different auction markets, and was the first person to sell commercial livestock by video auction in Canada. Bob has been privileged to have used his auction talents in 6 Canadian provinces, 13 States in the U.S.A., Hungary and the Peoples Republic of China. Among his many achievements and recognitions, are Lethbridge Citizen of the Year, Canadian Livestock Industry Leader of the Year, Inductee into the Canadian Hereford Association Hall of Fame, and Honorary Chairman of the Lethbridge Regional Hospital Foundation Care from the Heart Campaign. From the first day he began auctioneering, Bob, his wife Kim and their entire family, have worked tirelessly with hundreds of different organizations and charities throughout Lethbridge and Southern Alberta. Bob’s work with 4-H, youth sports, the Lethbridge Regional Hospital, University of Lethbridge, Lethbridge College, and dozens of community groups has been never ending. Bob has always shared a special bond with the Lethbridge District Exhibition, from the time he was a youngster attending the Stampede with his parents, to being a 4-H member, then selling for the Lethbridge Bull Sale, to being a sponsor, supporter and friend to the Exhibition. For 40 years, Bob’s patronage goes without question. After so many years of service, his continued pledge is, “if you live in a community, you have to give to the community in every way you can.” WEST COAST AMUSEMENTS (WCA) IS A CANADIAN COMPANY WITH OFFICES AND WINTER QUARTERS IN LANGLEY, BRITISH COLUMBIA.
