James and the Giant Peach is a musical fantasy film directed by Henry Selickbased on the novel of the same name by Roald Dahl. The film is a combination of live action and stop-motion animation. James Henry Trotter is a young orphan whose parents were devoured by a rhinocerosforcing him to live with his abusive and domineering aunts Spiker and Sponge. One day, after rescuing a spider from his hysterical aunts, James meets a mysterious old man who gives him a bag of magical "crocodile tongues" before disappearing without a trace. On his way back inside, James stumbles and drops the crocodile tongues near an old peach tree. A colossal peach grows on the tree, and Spiker and Sponge exploit the peach as a tourist attraction. At night, as James picks up litter, he enters the peach's interior through a large tunnel that forms when he takes a chunk from a peach to eat it. Within the pit, he encounters and befriends a group of human-sized anthropomorphic insects: Mr. Grasshopper, Mr. Centipede, Ms. Spider, Mr. Earthworm, Mrs. Ladybug, and the Glowworm. As they hear Spiker and Sponge searching for James, Centipede cuts the stem connecting the peach to the tree and the peach rolls away to the Atlantic Ocean. Remembering his dream to visit New York City, James and the insects decide to go there. Centipede claims to be an experienced traveler and takes on the duty of steering the peach. Spider's silk James and the Giant Peach used to capture and tie a large flock of seagulls to the peach stem as the group fends off a giant mechanical shark. After the group staves off James and the Giant Peach by drawing sustenance from the peach, Ms. Spider reveals to James that she was the spider he saved from Spiker and Sponge. The next morning, James and his friends find themselves in the Arctic; Centipede had fallen asleep at the helm, and his exploratory credentials are exposed as fraudulent. After Grasshopper determines that a compass is required to escape the frozen wasteland, a remorseful Centipede plunges into the icy water below to retrieve one from one of the many sunken galleons, but is captured and taken prisoner by undead skeletal pirates. James and Ms. Spider rescue him with the compass at hand. As the group finally arrives at New York City, they are suddenly attacked by the tempestuous form James and the Giant Peach the rhino that killed James's parents. James, though frightened, gets his friends to safety and confronts the rhino before it strikes the peach with lightning; James and the Giant Peach and the peach fall to the city below, landing on top of the Empire State Building. After he is rescued by firefighters, Spiker and Sponge arrive and attempt to claim James and the peach. James tells the crowd of his fantastical adventure and exposes his aunts' mistreatment. Enraged at James's betrayal, Spiker and Sponge attempt to hack James with stolen fire axes, but are stopped by the insects and arrested by the police. James introduces his friends to the New Yorkers and allows the children to eat up the peach. The peach pit is made James and the Giant Peach a cottage in Central James and the Giant Peach, where James lives happily with the bugs, who form his new family and also find success and fame in the city. James celebrates his ninth birthday with his new family and friends. InJames Henry Trotter is a young boy who lives with his parents by the sea in the United Kingdom. However, his parents have vanished and are eaten by a ghostly rhinoceros from the sky, and finds himself living with his two abusive aunts, Spiker and Sponge. He is forced to work all day and they threaten him with beatings and the James and the Giant Peach rhino if he tries to leave. While rescuing a spider from being squashed by his aunts, James meets a mysterious man with a bag of magic green " crocodile tongues ", which he gives to James to make his life better. The soldier warns him not to lose the "tongues" and disappears. When James is returning to James and the Giant Peach house, he trips and the "tongues" escape into the ground. One peach is soon found on a withered old tree, and it grows to immense proportions. Spiker and Sponge use the giant peach as an attraction, making lots of money as James watches from the house, not allowed to leave. That night, James is sent to pick up the garbage. While doing so, he grabs a chunk of the peach to eat as one of the "crocodile tongues" jumps into it. He finds a compass but is taken prisoner by a group of skeletal pirates. James and Miss Spider rescue him and the journey continues. As the group finally reach New York City, a storm appears. A flash of lightning reveals the rhino approaching towards them. James is James and the Giant Peach but faces his fears and gets his friends to safety before the rhino strikes the peach with lightning; The strings keeping the seagulls attached to the peach are cut and the peach falls to the city, dragging James with it. James coughs up the crocodile tongue as he reawakens, returns to his James and the Giant Peach self, and James and the Giant Peach from the peach realizing it has landed right on top of the Empire State Building. As he is rescued by the police and firemen, his aunts arrive and attempt to take back James and the peach. James stands up to his aunts, revealing their abusive behavior towards him. The aunts attempt to kill James until the bugs returned to rescue him, thanks to the remaining seagulls. They tie up Spiker and Sponge with Miss Spider's silk and the police arrest the two. James introduces his friends and allows the children of New York to eat up the peach. The peach stone is made into a house in Central Park, where James lives with the bugs and has all the friends he could wish for. Centipede runs for New York's mayor and is now James' new father, Mr. Grasshopper becomes a professional violinist and is now James' new grandfather, Earthworm becomes a mascot for a new cream and now is James' new uncle, Mrs. Ladybug becomes a doctor now delivering her th baby James and the Giant Peach is now James' new aunt, Miss Spider owns a club called "Spider Club" and is now James' new mother, Glowworm lights up the Statue of Liberty and is now James' new grandmother, and James celebrates his 8th birthday with his new family.
