30 September 2013 Mr. Kevin McGarr President and Chief Executive Officer 1101 Prince of Wales Dr. Suite 135 , ON, K2C 3W7

Dear Mr. McGarr: It was with both sadness and respect that I read your announcement of the Pearson Centre closing. You and your colleagues can take pride and satisfaction in all you have accomplished over the past two decades. Since being founded in 1994, the Pearson Centre has been recognized for its leadership position among the world’s training institutions. From your original location in Cornwallis to your current offices in Ottawa, and through your partners on every continent, the Pearson Centre has provided training of the highest calibre to tens of thousands of peacekeeping students from over 150 nations. It has been my pleasure to know personally and to work in common cause with many in Pearson’s executive suite, including your founder Alex Morrison, Sandra Dunsmore, Suzanne Monaghan, Anne Livingston, David Lightburn, Michael Snell, and of course, Chief Superintendent Doug Coates, RCMP, winner of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centres’ 2010 Training and Education Award, who gave his life in the service of peace while deployed at MINUSTAH during the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. I know these Pearson personnel and so many others on your staff to be earnest and dedicated individuals, whose only wish was to be of service to Canada and to all nations of the world, to bring peace and relief, and to uphold the traditions and ideals of your namesake, the Nobel Prize winner, your Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson. I congratulate you, all your dedicated staff, and the for the unmatched contributions you have made to the common betterment of mankind.

With Respect,

Harvey J. Langholtz, Ph.D. Executive Director Peace Operations Training Institute
