The Roccolo di Mezzomerico: history

The history of Roccolo Mezzomerico goes back in time several centuries. lt seems that here in defense of Mezzomerico village existed until '600 a mediaeval fortress. The only remaining find is a small bridge under which passed The family: Francesca, Pietro, Valentina the old road that connected the Ticino river with , e Margherita Gelmini where it was cultivated since Roman time , prince of the vines. The Roccolo is a building risen on the ruins of the ancient fortress: sur- rounded by a tall hedge of hornbeam over the centuries has been used for hunting birds with nets and is now used to dry the grapes to produce sweet wines. At the foundation of the Cantina Sociale di in 1891 (the oldest social wine pro- ducer in ltaly), the grapes of Roccolo represented a symbol of this area particularly vacated to great wines. The family estate: the vineyards

The Roccolo Mezzomerico with completely renovated plants grows its own grapes on 8 hectares set in a wonderful setting on the top of a hill 300 meters above sea level: 5 hectares of Nebbiolo, 1 hectare of Bonarda Novarese (Uva Rara) and , 2 hectares of Erbaluce and Chardonnay. The Roccolo follows an integra- ted procedure for the cultivation of the vine- yards in respect of the environment: it does not use herbicides and an agronomist expert, with continuous monitoring of meteorological and agronomic situation, identifies the needed and more effective actions. Every plant in the vineyard produces only few bunches that contain so higher concentrations of sugars, polyphenols, protein, glycerin and flavorings. Before the harvest the imperfect grapes are removed; in harvest only the best gra- pes are allocated for the production of DOC wines. The casket of perfumes: our winery

Hand in hand with the vineyards the winery was gradually equipped with the most advanced technology with the use of stainless steel tanks with temperature contrai, of french oak barrels of high quality, of sterile filtration, of the best equipment for bottling, thus ensuring the whole supply chain. Of great help was definitely talen- ted winemaker Claudio lntroini from Valtellina: his experience with Nebbioli and his great passion have brought in the company stimuli and innovative technologies to search for products interesting and original. The brilliant results of the revolutionary manufacturing com- pany began to emerge in 1990, the year of the first harvest in the renovated Roccolo, and have become gradually more and more inte- resting and appreciated, with the consents and certificates obtained. A passionate research: our wines

One of the most important wines of Roccolo Mezzomerico is undoubtedly Valentina, label dedicated to the eldest daughter, made from Nebbiolo grapes and aged in oak barrels. Valentina with the 2000 vintage was awarded with the Caristum prize of Acqui Terme as best DOC red wine of Piemonte Region. The Cascinetta, obtained from Nebbiolo, Bonarda Novarese and Vespolina won three times the Golden Cup as best red wine of the Province. There are also two interesting white wines: Francesca, label dedicated to the second daughter, a Erbaluce with deli- cate and elegant scents and the Mataccio, late harvest Chardonnay, fermented in bar- rel, with great structure and complexity. Estate La Chimera (Colline Novaresi Nebbiolo DOC) White wine obtained from Chardonnay grapes of our Rosé wine with a fresh scent of raspberry and almond vineyards.This wine presents fresh and delicate aroma- flavour typical of Nebbiolo grape variety, pleasantly soft. tic fragrances. Francesca (Bianco Colline Novaresi DOC) La Cascinetta (Colline Novaresi Nebbiolo DOC) White wine obtained from Erbaluce grapes of our vine- Red wine obtained from Nebbiolo grapes of our vine- yards. This wine presents elegant and delicate aroma- yeards. Without barriques present the tipical flavours of tic fragrances. Nebbiolo: raspberry and other small red fruits.

Francesca vendemmia tardiva White wine obtained from Erbaluce grapes of our vine- yards. Very powerfull with aromatic fragrances. Vespolina Red wine, ruby intense, of good structure. Meeting foods: structured fish, cheese. Floreal and spicy. Red wine obtained from Bonarda Novarese, Nebbiolo and Vespolina of our vineyeard.

Meeting foods: salami, chease, meat, spcy food. Il Mataccio (Bianco Vendemmia Tardiva) White wine obtained from grapes of Chardonnay of our Uva rara vineyards and fermented in oak barrels. Red wine produced from a typical grapes of the territory This wine is characterized by its tructure and its delicate (uva rara/ bonarda novarese). aromatic notes. Intense ruby with violet reflex. Siduri (Passito Bianco) (Erbaluce e Chardonnay)

Valentina (Colline Novaresi Nebbiolo DOC) Siduri passito is produced with Erbaluce and Chardonnay grapes of our vineyards Il Ponticello.
