Sixty-eight exquisite examples of botanical art, many never before shown in the United States, include paintings, works on vellum and paper, pietre dure (mosaics of semiprecious stones), manuscripts, printed books, and sumptuous textiles. The exhibition focuses on the work of three remarkable artists in Florence who dedicated themselves to depicting nature--Jacopo Ligozzi (1547-1626), Giovanna Garzoni (1600-1670), and Bartolomeo Bimbi (1648-1729).     Benvenuti a Firenze! Vi auguro un lieto soggiorno nella nostra città. E’ di noi tutti perché è patrimonio dell’umanità; sentitevi a casa e amatela. Fiorenza, la città del fiore, culla del Rinascimento. Facciamola rinascere ogni giorno, riscopriamo i talenti e la creatività che ne hanno fatto la gloria e che continuano a sbocciare. Abbiamo liberato dal traffico e restituito a cittadini e visitatori luoghi importanti: piazza Duomo, piazza Pitti, via Tornabuoni. Con oltre 6 ettari di nuove pedonalizzazioni, diventiamo un modello di città sostenibile, bella e vivibile nello stesso tempo. EVENTI Il centro storico si attraversa in quindici minuti: camminare fa bene e, alzando lo sguardo, si apprezza la bellezza attorno. Nel 2011 è nata la Firenze Card, che permette di visitare 50 musei senza fretta, evitando code e prenotazioni, e di viaggiare sui bus. Abbiamo dato una nuova meravigliosa casa al Maggio Musicale Fiorentino inaugurando il APRILE 2012 Nuovo Teatro dell’Opera. Il 2012 è l’anno di Amerigo, un’occasione non solo per ricordare i 500 anni dalla morte di Vespucci ma soprattutto “per dare un nome al futuro”. Abbiamo allargato la superficie espositiva del museo di Palazzo Vecchio inaugurando una nuova sezione chiamata “Tracce di Firenze”: diamo più spazio all’arte e alla storia della nostra città con mostre permanenti ed esposizioni temporanee. Aprile è un mese ricco di cultura e di sport, ma è anche periodo pasquale. Quest’anno per la prima volta la cerimonia dell’accensione del fuoco con le pietre del Santo Sepolcro sarà celebrata la sera precedente allo Scoppio del carro. Per chiudere: torna la notte fiorentina più lunga dell’anno, il 30 aprile vivremo un’altra Notte Bianca facendoci coinvolgere in spettacoli di luce, musica e installazioni artistiche nelle piazze di Firenze.

(Signature)…………………………………………………………………………….. 1 Abstract The church of Santo Spirito in Florence is universally accepted as one of the architectural works of Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1446). It is nevertheless surprising that contrary to such buildings as San Lorenzo or the Old Sacristy, the church has received relatively little scholarly attention. Most scholarship continues to rely upon the testimony of Brunelleschi’s earliest biographer, Antonio di Tuccio Manetti, to establish an administrative and artistic initiation date for the project in the middle of Brunelleschi’s career, around 1428. Through an exhaustive analysis of the biographer’s account, and subsequent comparison to the extant documentary evidence from the period, I have been able to establish that construction actually began at a considerably later date, around 1440. It is specifically during the two and half decades after Brunelleschi’s death in 1446 that very little is known about the proceedings of the project. A largely unpublished archival source which records the machinations of the Opera (works committee) of Santo Spirito from 1446-1461, sheds considerable light on the progress of construction during this period, as well as on the role of the Opera in the realization of the church.

Its objects are the sanctification of its members, preaching the Gospel, and the propagation of devotion to the Mother of God, with special reference to her sorrows. The members of the Order use O.S.M. (for Ordo Servorum Beatae Mariae Virginis) as their post-nominal letters. The male members are known as Servite Friars or Servants of Mary. The Order of Servants of Mary (The Servites) is a religious family that embraces a membership of friars (priests and brothers), contemplative nuns, a congregation of active sisters and lay groups. History Foundation The Servites lead a community life in the tradition of the mendicant orders (such as the Dominicans and Franciscans). The Servite Order was founded in 1233 AD, when a group of cloth merchants of Florence, Italy, left their city, families and professions to retire outside the city on a mountain known as Monte Senario for a life of poverty and penance. These men are known as the Seven Holy Founders; they were canonized by Pope Leo XIII in 1888.[2] These seven were: Buonfiglio dei Monaldi (Bonfilius), Giovanni di Buonagiunta (Bonajuncta), Amadeus of the Amidei (Bartolomeus), Ricovero dei Lippi-Ugguccioni (Hugh), Benedetto dell' Antella (Manettus), Gherardino di Sostegno (Sostene), and Alessio de' Falconieri (Alexius). They belonged to seven patrician families of that city.     A NORD OVEST TRA PIANURA E COLLINA: CASTELLO E LE VILLE MEDICEE La mappa Il territorio del nostro percorso Questo percorso presenta aspetti di assoluto interesse storico, artistico e paesaggistico, in cui spiccano per bellezza, importanza, monumentalità le ville suburbane di svago e delizia: quelle medicee di Castello e Petraia, con i loro meravigliosi giardini all’italiana (non solo natura adattata alla geometria prospettica del verde, ma programma metaforico e simbolico del potere e del prestigio del Principe) e quelle che furono dei Villa di Castello; la grotta degli animali Medici, come Villa Corsini, ma anche Villa La Quiete alle Montalve (anch’essa appartenuta ai Medici) dove, dal 1724, risiedette Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici, elettrice Palatina, ultima discendente della famiglia. Questa zona, in parte arrampicata sulla collina di Quarto, deve il suo nome all’antico borgo di origine etrusca e romana (Castellum, cioè cisterna, serbatoio d’acqua) su cui passava l’acquedotto fatto costruire dal senatore Marco Opelio Macrino (164-218) e col quale venivano distribuite Villa della Petraia:veduta le acque verso Firenze. Terra elettiva per l’otium e la delizia dei Medici, teatro di eventi fondamentali nella vita della famiglia, oggi la zona preserva, pur assediata a valle dallo sviluppo urbanistico, una sua precisa e straordinaria memoria storica fatta, anche, di strade e viuzze murate a racchiudere porzioni di campagna, antiche case contadine, olivete e poderi, testimonianza di un passato a vocazione agricola basato sull’organizzazione
