Let’s Write an Essay! Write it long and write it strong!
The following is an outline students will follow to help them in learning to write an essay. This provides the overall structure to essays. We begin with an introduction where you clearly state your thesis and back it up with 3 reasons. The next paragraph you restate your thesis with your first reason and provide 3 strong pieces of evidence. Each reason is its own paragraph. Lastly, you wrap up the essay with a conclusion in which you restate your thesis and 3 reasons.
(Thesis) because (Reason 1), (Reason 2) and most of all because (Reason 3).
One reason (Thesis) is because (Reason 1). For example, (Evidence A), (Evidence B) and (Evidence C).
Another reason (Thesis) is because (Reason 2). For example, (Evidence A), (Evidence B) and (Evidence C).
Although (Thesis) because (Reason 1) and because (Reason 2), especially (Thesis) because (Reason 3). For example, (Evidence A), (Evidence B) and (Evidence C).
(Thesis) because (Reason 1), (Reason 2) and most of all because (Reason 3).
Essay Boot Camp: In class students participated in an “essay boot camp.” We participated in a shared writing experience in which we worked together as a class to flash draft an essay with the following thesis and reasons. After sharing evidence students wrote their own in their notebooks!
I Love Ice Cream
I love ice cream because you can add so many toppings, there are so many flavors and most of all because it’s refreshing on a hot day!
One reason that I love ice cream is because you can add so many toppings. For example you can add sprinkles, hot fudge and gummy bears.
Another reason I love ice cream is because there are so many flavors. For example, there is vanilla, mint chocolate chip and cookie dough.
Although I love ice cream because you can add so many toppings and because there are so many flavors, I especially love ice cream because it is refreshing on a hot day. For example, it melts in your mouth. Also when you are sweaty it always cools you off. Lastly, it tastes really good.
