ABSTRACT OF GRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH Project Report Andrews University Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary Title: A DESIGN FOR SPIRITUAL FORMATION DURING THE ACADEMIC LIFE OF THE ADVENTIST SEMINARY STUDENTS AT COLLONGES-SOUS-SALEVE, FRANCE Name of researcher: Bruno R. Date completed: July 1993 Problem This project report addresses the problem of lack of practicum of a spiritual formation for students at the seminary of Collonges-sous- Saleve, France. Method The project report is developed in four stages as follows: First, it investigates how spirituality was approached in the Roman Catholic as well as the mainline Protestant milieu. Second, it explores the Seventh-day Adventist background of spirituality. Third, it focuses on the Pastoral Epistles with regard to Paul1s spiritual concerns for the leaders of the church. Four, it recognizes other needs of seminary students that must be considered in the light of spirituality. Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner. Further reproduction prohibited without permission. Results This report confirms after reflection that spirituality is essential to the professional education of ministers. It, therefore, calls for a spiritual Christian strategy to become a priority in practicing spirituality at the seminary, and particularly at the Seventh-day Adventist Seminary of Collonges-sous-SalSve, France, for which this program is designed. Conclusions The conclusion is that it is part of the responsibility of the seminary to be attentive to the development of the spiritual lives of the students in theology, and to offer adequate spiritual formation to allow an awareness and growth in that area. In fact, its acceptance seemed enthusiastic and unanimous. But then, suddenly and unexpectedly, it was dropped. The only reason alleged by the Book Editor of those days, in a letter to the author, was the following: The book was too un-popular to guarantee the sale of at least 5000 copies within a limited period of time, necessary in order to "break even." A couple of years later the manuscript was accepted for publication by Andrews University Press, but again unexpectedly dropped. This time the reason given was: The book was too popular (not sufficiently academic, particularly in its style). The author happens to know some other reasons why the men whose verdict is decisive in matters of this order, will tend to go against the publication of such a book. And the reader will soon understand a good deal--and, by and by, more and more--of the great battle which is here going on. But the more urgent would it seem that the book be made available to a wide group of readers who will be greatly benefited, and pleased, to receive the unusual information it provides regarding some highly controversial topics. You may of course be among those disturbed by an increasing awareness that an unprecedented drama is in the process of shaking the very foundations of our lives in terms of having time-honored and long-cherished beliefs overthrown in circles of serious Bible students from whom you would never have expected it.

(FB6). Some readers may know that until 1980 the FB6 theme was never part of any Adventist statement of faith. If it's so important now, why does the Adventist Church take so long to include it as a fundamental faith? And now, only three decades later, what's the problem with wording? Perhaps it would be helpful to make sure that we are all familiar with the current FB6 text. Here it is: 6. Creation.     ,46.4awc-oet -4A December 1973 "--4 Vol. 4o No. 4 Organ of the Euro -Africa Division Ravi The Quarterly Review wishes to join its sister periodicals in honoring Alfred Vaucher, one of the long-time workers of the Euro-Africa Division. Elder Vaucher entered the work in October, 1903, when he was 16 years old. Although he has served as a Bible worker, preacher, and administrator, it is as a Bible teacher at our seminaries in France and Italy that his influence has been greatest. Today hundreds of his students are extending his ministry in many lands. Alfred Vaucher is the grandson of Mrs. Catherine Revel, the first SDA in Europe. Like other pioneers who had the courage to step out from long-established churches, Mrs. Revel knew what she believed and passed this certainty on to her grandson, along with a deep love for the Scriptures. An avid Bible student, Elder Vaucher has shared his findings in his Histoire du Salut (History of Salvation), an excellent text on Bible doctrines. He is now working on an enlarged fourth edition of this work, along with his Alfred Vaucher teaching at the Italian Secondary School.
