British Actor Ed Westwick Not Prosecuted Over Sexual Assault Allegations British actor Ed Westwick not prosecuted over sexual assault allegations Three women made allegations against the Gossip Girl star in November 2017, with the first two accusing him of rape. 18:51, UK, Friday 27 July 2018 Image:Ed Westwick will not be prosecuted over sex assault claims By Lucia Binding, news reporter British actor Ed Westwick will not be prosecuted over sexual assault allegations, the Los Angeles Country District has said. The Gossip Girl star, 31, was accused of sexual assault by three different women in November 2017. Kristina Cohen and Aurelie Wynn accused Westwick of rape and Rachel Eck accused him of sexual assault - with all of the alleged incidents reported to have occurred in 2014. Despite the first two accusers having identified witnesses, prosecutors said the witnesses were "not able to provide information that would enable the prosecution to prove either incident beyond a reasonable doubt". Investigators said the prosecution could not go ahead due to the "insufficient evidence". Westwick denied the rape allegations on social media last year. "It is disheartening and sad to me that as a result of two unverified and probably untrue social media claims, there are some in this environment who could ever conclude that I have had anything to do with such vile and horrific conduct," he said. The actor added he was "cooperating with the authorities" in order to clear his name. Image:Kristina Cohen accused the actor of rape in November 2017 Ms Eck subsequently came forward and filed a complaint against Westwick - who rose to fame for his role as Chuck Bass on teen television drama series Gossip Girl. The allegations disrupted Westwick's working life and forced a re-shooting of scenes involving him in the BBC adaptation of Agatha Christie's Ordeal By Innocence. It also resulted in series two of his BBC Two show White Gold, where he plays Vincent Swan, being "paused". Westwick's first accuser, actress Ms Cohen, claimed she woke up abruptly while sleeping in the actor's guest room, with him on top of her. He denied it, saying he did not know her. Former actress Ms Wynn then came forward and said Westwick pinned down after she refused to have sex with him in an apartment in Los Angeles in 2014. Ms Eck, a creative producer, said Westwick tried to kiss her "or kind of push me up a wall" and "aggressively groped" her in a hotel room. https://news.sky.com/story/british-actor-ed-westwick-not-prosecuted-over-sexual-assault- allegations-11451477 .

THE FASHION INDUSTRY AS A SLIPPERY DISCURSIVE SITE: TRACING THE LINES OF FLIGHT BETWEEN PROBLEM AND INTERVENTION Nadia K. Dawisha A dissertation submitted to the faculty of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Department of Communication in the College of Arts and Sciences. Chapel Hill 2016 Approved by: Patricia Parker Sarah Dempsey Steve May Michael Palm Neringa Klumbyte © 2016 Nadia K. Dawisha ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT Nadia K. Dawisha: The Fashion Industry as a Slippery Discursive Site: Tracing the Lines of Flight Between Problem and Intervention (Under the direction of Dr. Patricia Parker) At the intersection of the glamorous façade of designer runway shows, such as those in Paris, Milan and New York, and the cheap prices at the local Walmart and Target, is the complicated, somewhat insidious “business” of the fashion industry. It is complicated because it both exploits and empowers, sometimes through the very same practices; it is insidious because its most exploitative practices are often hidden, reproduced, and sustained through a consumer culture in which we are all in some ways complicit. Since fashion’s inception, people and institutions have employed a myriad of discursive strategies to ignore and even justify their complicity in exploitative labor, environmental degradation, and neo-colonial practices. This dissertation identifies and analyzes five predicaments of fashion while locating the multiple interventions that engage various discursive spaces in the fashion industry. Ultimately, the analysis of discursive strategies by creatives, workers, organizers, and bloggers reveals the existence of agile interventions that are as nuanced as the problem, and that can engage with disciplinary power in all these complicated places.

  • Leighton Meester Hopes to Find True Love Someday
Leighton Meester Hopes to Find True Love Someday Leighton Meester has high hopes for true love. According to People, the Gossip Girl star is looking for the kind of relationship that her character on the show, Blair, shares with onscreen love, Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick). “Because the way they love each other is very real, and not for the sake of being dramatic,” says Meester. Though 24 and single, the accomplished actress is far from giving up. “It’s okay if you don’t find him and you’re 24. You can find it someday.” How do you know when you’ve found “real” love? Cupid’s Advice: Leighton Meester says, “Real love is not for the sake of being dramatic.” If you’re not sure whether you’re in love or not, Cupid has a few telling signs: 1. It goes deeper than looks: Make sure you enjoy talking to your partner just as much as you like looking at him. If you find yourself constantly fixated on your partner’s physical appearance, you make be confusing love with lust. 2. It’s not just physical: If your relationship is more physical than it is emotional, it’s probably not love. You should be getting to know your partner inside and out. When its’ time to say, “I do,” you should be looking forward to more than the honeymoon. 3. You make sacrafices: The biggest sign of love is putting your partner’s needs before your own. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices, even if they’re small. If you’re always thinking what this person can do to help you instead of what you can do to help them, you’re probably not in love yet..

No one knows Gossip Girl’s identity, but everyone in this exclusive and complicated vicious circle relies on her website and text messages for the latest scoop. Even Serena’s closest friend, Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester, “Entourage”), is surprised to find that Serena has suddenly ended her self- imposed exile to boarding school and returned to Manhattan.

  • “Yes, You Belong to Me!”: Reflections on the Jadine Love Team Fandom in the Age of Twitter and in the Context of Filipino Fan Culture Richard Bolisay
“Yes, you belong to me!”: Reflections on the JaDine Love Team Fandom in the Age of Twitter and in the Context of Filipino Fan Culture Richard Bolisay The concept of love teams—a pair of good-looking stars launched by a mainstream studio to appear in a succession of films, TV series, adverts, mall shows, etc.—is unique to Philippine entertainment not just because of their intense popularity among mass audiences but also because of their rich cultural history spanning decades since the beginning of Philippine cinema. This paper looks into one of today’s biggest Filipino love teams, JaDine, the portmanteau of James Reid and Nadine Lustre. It situates them contextually in the past (how love teams are packaged and sold, how the audiences express their fanaticism, etc.) and present (in the age of Twitter and “block” screenings, the fan behaviour developed in social media, etc.). As equally important for analysis as these stars are their fans, and in light of JaDine’s most recent film, Never Not Love You, this paper also looks into an incident on Twitter that reveals a lot about fan culture enabled by technology that further complicates the often overlooked position of love teams in cultural studies. Keywords: love teams, Philippine cinema, media audiences, Twitter, fan studies ONLINE: The Dominance of Internet Culture On 11 July 2013, Oh No They Didn’t (ONTD), the largest community of LiveJournal users across the world dedicated to pop culture and celebrity gossip, ran an entry entitled “Is the Philippines ready for a gay love team?” (Jaucian, 2011) Like most ONTD posts, it aggregated online articles, this time two commentaries written by Filipino columnists regarding the Philippine TV show My Husband’s Lover, which centered on an affair between a married man and his gay lover.
