BIRD TAILINGS Volume 34-6 A Monthly Newsletter Published by the RoadRunner Prospectors’ Club June 2020 President’s Corner Hello everyone. I hope everyone is well and staying safe. It seems like a lifetime since we have gathered as a group, whether at an outing or monthly meeting. I, for one, miss both events. It looks like we are in for more changes in our way of life. I hope it is temporary, but we will have to endure this situation a little longer. The Board of Directors is still hesitant to have a general meeting of the members. We have discussed how to have the June night dig and have it safe. At this time, the Board does not feel it would be a good idea to have the dig. It would be hard to control the dig site and keep the distancing that is needed. Also, we feel we would be putting the organizers of the event in jeopardy. I know that a lot of new members have joined the club so they can participate in club activities. The Board is deeply sorry to cancel all these events, but we hope you under- stand. The Board members are also members and like to participate in these events as much as the rest of you. We miss them as much as you! We will send out mass emails, announce on our Facebook page, and our web site, www.roadrunnergold.com, of any changes, so stay tuned. I would like to give you some statistics about the club. Did you know? As of today, we have 1264 active members. 777 of these are lifetime members. Of the 50 original charter members, 13 of them are still active. The club was incorporated on September 29th,1982. The club is older than some of our members. The club cur- rently has 275 claims. 193 of these claims has seasonal water on them, so they are listed as dredging claims. The club has members with the addresses from thirty-seven different states from sea to shining sea: Alaska 4 Kentucky 1 New York 6 Arkansas 1 Maine 1 Ohio 5 California 14 Massachusetts 1 Oklahoma 6 Colorado 19 Michigan 9 Oregon 11 Connecticut 1 Minnesota 10 Pennsylvania 5 Florida 11 Missouri 10 Rhode Island 1 Georgia 2 Mississippi 2 South Dakota 6 Idaho 6 Montana 6 Texas 21 Illinois 6 Nebraska 5 Utah 4 Indiana 2 New Hampshire 4 Washington 15 Iowa 2 New Mexico 15 Wisconsin 5 Kansas 2 Nevada 11 Wyoming 4 And of course, Arizona with 1027. I realize some of our members with Arizona addresses are from Canada and other parts of the world and use an Arizona address. I apologize but I do not have those stats. Send me an email if you are from another country. I would like to update our data. Now for some business. We are still having problems with members and nonmembers not reclaiming the areas they have prospected in. There are more and more holes not being filled in and trash left on the claims. But reclamation means more than just filling in holes. It also encompasses hauling out your trash and disman- tling your fire pits after camping. Remember it is every member’s responsibility to make sure our claims are taken care of. Remember also you have a right as a member to ask to see anyone’s badge if they are on a Road- runner claim. You and they need to be wearing a badge. This problem is getting so bad the Board of Directors is considering closing claims until they are reclaimed. So, if you see a sign stating this claim is closed for reclamation you will not be allowed to prospect on it. Please abide by the rules and regulations so we can keep our club active and have access to all our claims. June 2020 page 2 US Forest Service…….. Restrictions I received a press release email from Prescott National Forest announced a Stage 2 fire restriction will be in effect on Wednesday. Please observe all the regulations about the restriction. Also, be aware that parking in dry grass can cause a brush fire, so stay on designated roads and parking. The Roadrunner Board of Directors discourages members from prospecting activities in the national forests during stage 2 restrictions. We will try to keep members informed, but it is up to each member to be aware of all the fire stage restrictions. Also, be aware that Tonto National Forest is also in Stage 2. We have one claim in Tonto National For- est, The Golden Nickel.
