Prof. Mary Jain Jose welcomed the gathering. Prof. Augustine K J, Head of the Department of Malayalam spoke on Shri P. N. Panicker, the founder of the Library Movement in Kerala. A Reading Day quiz was also organized by the Librarian and Prof. Preethi Francis recited a poem. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. C Mollykutty Thomas. Release of Year Book - Chemistry Department The Department Year Book of 2019-20 containing the Departmental Activities of the previous academic year was released by Rev. Fr. Joseph Palliparambil, Governing Council Member and Assistant Manager, St. Paul's College, Kalamassery during a function held on 15th June 2020 at Emmanuel Hall. Rev. Fr. Antony Arackal, Chairman, St Albert's College (Autonomous) presided over the function. Dr. M. A. Solomon, CoE handed over the Year Book. Dr. Vijay John Gerson, the HoD, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Sajeesh T. H., Dean, Academics proposed the vote of thanks. Online Alumni Meet 2020 & Intra Departmental E-Quiz The Department of Computer Science, St. Albert's The Department of Computer Science, St. Albert's College (Autonomous) College (Autonomous) organized an Online organized an Intra Departmental e-Quiz for the students of the college on Alumni Meet on 29 June, 2020 at 7 pm. Economics - International Day aainst Drug Abuse n 26 June 2020, the Department of Economics, St. Albert's College (Autonomous) Ernakulam, commemorated the OInternational Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Students of the department prepared a collage and a short film to spread awareness on the relevance of the day. Students of II BA Economics prepared a beautiful collage with the aim to express determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse. The collage was shared on various social media platforms to spread awareness. The efforts of the students were appreciated by all. The students of III BA Economics prepared a silent short film revealing the harmful effects of drugs. The theme of this silent short film was ' Drug Ends All Dreams'. This sudden transition to the online teaching made it difficult for some students to attend classes due to financial difficulties to afford a smart phone. As a part of social commitment the Faculty, along with the involvement of students of the Department distributed two smart phones to two BSc final year Chemistry students, enabling them to join the online classes regularly. The generous efforts by the students and faculty are highly appreciable. Poetry Presentation- PG Department of English Ms. Devika V, Assistant Professor, Post Graduate Department of English participated in “Un-Taboo”, a spoken poetry initiative by Via Kochi, which is an initiative to bring honest and interesting stories from around the city, who believe that journalism is more meaningful with the noise and opinion building. “Un-Taboo” was a spoken poetry collective of 9 artists who performed their poetries for gender awareness. Ms. Devika was one of the 9 chosen poets. Post Graduate Department of Economics Online Social Survey The Post Graduate Department of Economics, St. Albert's College (Autonomous), Ernakulam in association with Department of Economics, St Paul's College conducted a Social Survey on 'Challenges of Online Learning Platforms for Teaching: A Student's Perspective'. The aim of the study was to understand the challenges of online teaching platforms with a focus on access to ICT facilities, its efficiencies and effectiveness from students' perspectives. The study is expected to bring out evidences which would facilitate policy making in order to derive efficient outcome from online learning platforms. All respondents were students. 05 The Albertian News Letter Department of Mathematics – Participation in Lockdown Diaries Students of II M.Sc. Mathematics participated in a series of competitions organized by St. Albert's College (Autonomous), Ernakulam called 'Lockdown Diaries'.

    Kochi, the commercial capital of Kerala, is one of the fastest growing two-tier metropolitan cities in India with a population of 13.55 lakh, including the Kochi Urban Agglomeration(KUA)1.The Kochi Urban Agglomeration comprises of Kochi Municipal Corporation, five municipalities, 15 Panchayats and a part of three Panchayats. The city has an area of 94.88sq. km. Urban expansion during the past few decades outgrew the limits of Kochi City. The immediate hinterland of Kochi Port has been delineated as the Greater Kochi Region, which covers 731 sq. km- almost eight times the area of the city. The population growth in Kochi Municipal Corporation alone is expected to be 10 per cent per decade. The growth of population in the remaining area is expected to be 19 per cent per decade. Although the present population of the adjoining municipalities and Panchayats is less than the population of the Kochi Municipal Corporation, it is projected that the former will be greater. This will create unprecedented transport demand and passenger inflow to the already congested city adding more inter-city buses and private vehicles.2 Records say that about 2,000 vehicles are registered in the city limits in a month; 85 percent of which are private ones. The widening gap between the growing number of vehicles, the lack of infrastructure and unscientific plans has turned life worse for the average Kochiite. The city roads are over-crowed with road-based public and private vehicles. Kochi has around 630 city buses, 3,000 auto-rickshaws, 6,500 taxis and countless cars and motorcycles.

    CITY MOBILITY PLAN - KOCHI 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 GENERAL Kochi, the largest agglomeration in the state of Kerala is the nerve centre of all commercial activities in Kerala. One of the major ports in the country Kochi is blessed with connection with other parts of the country through all modes of transport like road, rail, air and water. NH 17, NH 47, and NH 49 pass through Kochi. Kochi port is located on strategic International route. Broad gauge railway lines link up Kochi to all major cities of the country. Kochi has got one of the three international airports in the state. In addition to all these the regional road linkages are supplemented by an extensive network of navigation routes through the lagoon system, serving the movement of passenger and cargo. Insufficient carrying capacity of the intra-urban and sub urban routes, unhindered development of vast areas as urban extensions due to urbanization, unscientific planning in urban infrastructure development , absence of proper linkage of various forms of transportation etc. have resulted in an inadequate mobility system in the city and suburbs. As part of the comprehensive development of the city an efficient mobility plan has to be formulated. 1.2 STUDY AREA It was only in the beginning of the 19th century that Kochi , which was situated with in the narrow strip of land sandwiched between backwaters and sea outgrew to Ernakulam in the eastern side of the back waters. The narrow streets of Fort Kochi and Mattancherry were not sufficient to take up the travel demand even at that time.

The population is increasing in India and it hit 135 crores in the year 2018 and vehicle population is also increasing which hit 253 million in the year 2018 as per the research conducted by the ’Statista Research Department’. So, it is important to manage these vehicle population since the vehicles are kept idle most of the time somewhere. Globally the parking management dimensions are changing. In India we increase the parking supply according to increasing demand. Since land is a precious resource spending more land on parking is not ideal. Therefore, rather than increasing the supply more management solutions are suggested all over the world. The study focuses on parking issues and existing parking conditions as well as drawbacks of one of the very busy stretch of Kochi city i.e. M G road. M G road was identified as the stretch with maximum parking demand and the stretch with maximum parking issues in Kochi Masterplan 2031. The stretch always faces problems related to parking as well as congestion. Both the sides of the stretch carry a large number of branded as well as local shops. And the regulations implemented here after the commencement of metro has created a lot of impacts in transportation as well as the commercial sector of the area.

    ADMINISTRATION REPORT FOR 2017-18 2 GREATER COCHIN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY, KOCHI – 20 ADMINISTRATION REPORT FOR 2017-18 INTRODUCTION As a first step towards the formalized development planning of the Cochin region, an advisory committee was set up in 1965. In the same year itself, a Joint Town Planning Committee was constituted for their planning & development and this committee has been elevated into a trust viz. Cochin Town Planning Trust under the Chairmanship of the District Collector. In the course of time, the authorities were convinced of the fact that a larger set up is required to control the growth of the Cochin City and its environs in a planned manner which resulted in the formation of GCDA in the year 1976. The Greater Cochin Development Authority came into existence on 24.1.1976 under the Madras Town Planning Act of 1920 and Travancore Town Planning Act IV of 1108 read with G.O. (MS) No.19/76/LA & SWD dated 23.1.1976. Whereas in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 51 of the Kerala Town and Country Planning Act, 2016 (9 of 2016), the Greater Cochin Development Authority has been constituted as per notification issued under G.O(P) No. 47/2016/LSGD dated 16th December 2016 and published as SRO No. 756/2016 in the Kerala Gazette Extraordinary No. 2180 dated 16th December 2016. This is a body coming under the Local Self Government Department of the Kerala and now guided by clause 51-60 of Kerala Town and Country Planning Act 2016 vide notification 19904/Leg C1/2013/Law dated 17th March 2016.
