30Th ANNUAL REPORT 2016-17 SHAHEED SUKHDEV COLLEGE OF BUSINESS STUDIES [UNIVERSITY OF DELHI] 30th ANNUAL REPORT 2016-17 Hon’ble guests, worthy colleagues and dear students; it is a matter of proud privilege for me to present the 30th Annual Report of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies for the academic year 2016-17. I would like to extend a warm welcome to our hon’ble Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Anil Rai (Professor at Department of Hindi, University of Delhi and Chairman, Governing Body, SSCBS) and our Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr.) Pankaj Sinha (Professor at FMS, University of Delhi and Treasurer, Governing Body, SSCBS) on this day. An accomplished academician, Prof. Rai holds numerous academic degrees and qualifications from prestigious organisations in India. Holding Ph.D. (and M.Phil. and M.A. degrees) from the University of Delhi, during the last 25 years of his association with the University of Delhi, he has contributed a great deal to his subject, publishing over 50 papers, 2 books and supervising many PhD and MPhil scholars in addition to his regular duties as an academician. His contributions extend beyond the academic sphere, leading him to serve as Chairman of Governing Body of Kamala Nehru College and SSCBS and various bodies and committees of the University of Delhi. He has also served the nation in his capacity of member of selection committees of various national and state government and governmental agencies such as ICCR, CBCS (UGC), HP PSC, UPSC and various universities across India. Taking his subject beyond national boundaries, he is serving as Visiting Professor (Min. of Ext. Affairs, Govt. of India) ICCR Chair at Peking University, Beijing, China for a Two and Half year stint. His boundless enthusiasm for academic contribution is amply displayed by the fact that he is, side-by-side his other considerable commitments, working on 3 books for publication and other academic endeavours. Presently, he is Chairman, Governing Body, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, University of Delhi. Prof. Pankaj Sinha is currently a Professor at the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi. A Ph.D. in Bayesian Econometrics (from the University of Delhi), Dr. Sinha’s research, professional and teaching interests revolve around the areas of Bayesian econometrics, financial forecasting, financial engineering, financial mathematics, financial risk management, investment analysis and computational finance. He has published papers in leading academic international journals as well as in international conferences. He teaches financial modelling and forecasting, financial derivatives and financial engineering, quantitative analysis of financial decisions, financial risk management and Statistics to students of MBA at Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi. He teaches Quantitative Economics to probationers of Indian Economics Service at Institute of Economic Growth. Over the years, he has delivered lectures on financial econometrics, computational finance, advanced quantitative methods, and advanced forecasting in India, USA and Europe. He has been regularly invited as a key speaker at IIM Lucknow, MDI, Gurgaon, National Labour Institute, National Academy of Customs Excise & Narcotics, National Academy of Direct Taxes, GAIL and National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science. Dr. Sinha also has expertise in the area of Bayesian evaluation of forensic evidence and Probability of guilt. He is associated with the various training programmes for higher judicial officers, forensic scientists and police officers conducted by NICFSc, Ministry of Home affairs. 2 His academic contributions are too numerous to be recounted at this forum. He has written / contributed to over 30 research papers and articles, has worked on / with more than 33 work in progress assignments and research activities and has supervised numerous academic projects by his students at FMS. Presently, he is Treasurer, Governing Body, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, University of Delhi. THE COLLEGE Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies (SSCBS) is one of the premier institutions of the University of Delhi, imparting path-breaking education in the fields of Management and Information Technology. It was established in August 1987 by the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) on the initiation of University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India (MHRD). At present, the college offers three full time graduate courses under the Departments of Management Studies (DMS) and Computer Science (DCS) leading to the award of Bachelor of Management Studies, Bachelor of Business Administration (Financial Investment Analysis) and B.Sc. (H) Computer Science. In the forthcoming academic year 2018-19, the college is hoping to offer B.Sc. (H) Operational Research. The college emphasizes an interactive mode of education, supported with innovative teaching methodologies. It is designed to stimulate inquiring minds and provide significant exposure to the realities of business processes and challenges. Industry interaction is achieved through guest lectures, industrial tours, industry based project work and summer training. The strength of the college lies in its highly qualified faculty having industrial experience, dynamic students, supportive non-teaching staff, exceptional alumni and an enterprising and encouraging governing body. NEWS AND UPDATES New Campus With a sense of great pride, a feeling of reaching out towards the stars and hope for the future, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies is moving into its new home – a spanking new multi-storied campus in Rohini, Delhi. 30 years in the making, this move heralds a new chapter in the story of SSCBS. Spread over 5 acres, our new campus incorporates all the latest amenities and facilities including a 500-seater auditorium, amphitheatre, sports facilities (indoor and outdoor), a large library area, air-conditioned classrooms and administrative & common use areas, staff accommodation, hostels (for both boys and girls), cafeteria and much more. Environmentally conscious, energy efficient, water wise and intelligently constructed with care, this campus would usher in a bold and exciting new phase for SSCBS. 3 Incubation Centre: Starting with a dream of the Govt. of NCT of Delhi of setting up Incubation Centres in leading academic institutions for promoting Entrepreneurship, SSCBS Innovation and Incubation Foundation has started functioning in a smooth and effective manner. The initial grant of ₹ 1.5 Crore by the GNCTD (given to each of the 6 institutions in the first phase) has been utilised towards setting up the centre, supporting and funding the first phase of student start-ups and putting in place world-class equipment and infrastructure for the students. The college aims to further utilise these funds to promote entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial ventures among the students of the college and beyond in an inclusive and beneficial manner. INFRASTRUCTURE and PURCHASES A strong infrastructure base is imperative for providing a learning environment of an international standard. The 31 spacious, sound-proofed air-conditioned classrooms, 4 amphitheatres, 7 computer labs, separate and exclusive exam rooms, dedicated tutorial rooms, compact and comfortable faculty rooms for boosting student-faculty interactions and faculty learning, an entire floor dedicated towards career building opportunities like Placement Cell, Alumni Relations and the Incubation Centre; equipped with the latest in e-enabled learning tools and designed for and incorporating the latest global standards are there to provide a conducive learning environment for the students and teachers alike. The efforts of the Furniture and Purchase Committee members are greatly appreciated. (List of purchase committee members is enclosed in Annexure 35) College Website The college website provides a platform for students to view their attendance at the end of each month and their internal assessment at the end of each semester. The college has made available previous year question papers to students with the help of a question bank setup on the website. The website is updated constantly with the help of the website committee and the system network administrator. The college has made a 4 constant effort to make website informative and also made sure that website is used as a platform to promote various activities and achievements of our students and faculty. Dedicated pages for placement activities and alumni association of the college are in the development phase. The efforts of the Website Committee and Mr. Varun Kumar Kushwaha (Systems and Network Administrator) are appreciated. (List of Website Committee members is enclosed in Annexure 35) SSCBS INNOVATION AND INCUBATION FOUNDATION (SIIF) The college now has a fully functional Incubation Centre in the premises, supporting the students of the college with their entrepreneurial ambitions. Justice Mool Chand Garg directed AIIMS to furnish an affidavit by Wednesday explaining how the institute filled up all six seats for MS (Surgery). ‘‘Clarify as to whether they (candidates) have qualified and taken seats elsewhere in MS (Surgery),’’ Justice Garg said.
