Saltford Community Association News Issue No 123 August/September 2015 Message from Steve Johnson, chair of SCA 2015 Saltford Festival What a great time we all had. Please see middle page spread for more details and pictures. Help needed for Saltford Youth A few days ago I was talking to a middle aged man who remembers, with affection, coming to a youth club in the Wansdyke Room at Saltford Hall. In the last year or so the Parish council, spearheaded by Neil McKen and myself, on behalf of the SCA got together to reinstate youth facilities in Saltford. We’ve had a pretty successful year or so with funding coming from both the Parish Council and B&NES with the SCA supplying the venue. There are a number of children that benefit from the youth bus; those that I have seen have learned some excellent life skills and have come to think of the bus as a second home. For some it’s reinvigorated their approach to education. It’s a very small price to pay for the help it offers so many. In true terms if it helped just one child lead a better life it’s truly cost – justified. The SCA wish to make this a permanent feature for Saltford and funding from B&NES will soon dry up. The SCA has committed to support this endeavour and we have provided the Wansdyke Room each Friday. Make no mistake, the Youth Bus is a great success, we have the funds until September; we have a room to continue this facility beyond that; we have the support of the SCA to fund this in perpetuity and we have a young volunteer to assist in the running of the club for at least the next year. What we need is a qualified youth worker who would be free on Friday nights to organise this, for maybe 2-3 hours every Friday in return for an hourly rate. Know anyone who may be able to help? Mail me, Steve Johnson, at [email protected] or call me on 01225 872025 or 07967 704706 Permissive Footpaths The SCA has been trying to raise £3,000 to keep the permissive footpaths around the village open for another year, starting this Autumn, we have now raised £2353.50 and just as we were thinking we were not going to reach the target, we are delighted to announce that the Day Lewis Pharmacy have approached the SCA and have generously agreed to donate £646.50 to enable us to reach the target. SALTFORD HALL BOOKING OFFICE 01225 874081 E-mail: [email protected] www.saltfordhall.co.uk Message from Steve Johnson, chair of SCA (continued) Permissive Footpaths (continued) Jenni Scott, the pharmacist manager at Day Lewis Pharmacy said “At Day Lewis our core purpose is 'Helping people in the community stay healthy and feel better' and being able to help keep these pathways open is just one of the ways we try to achieve this every day. In our pharmacy here in Saltford we not only work with medicines but are passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles and being able to join the rest of the community in keep these footpaths will help you all to have easy access to free exercise. We realise how many people in both Saltford and Keynsham use these paths on a daily basis to keep active and look forward to seeing this continue.” Without this generous donation from Day Lewis to cover the shortfall in our second year over 4.5km of permissive paths would be closed, possibly for ever. This would be a terrible shame as it is a haven for dog walkers and horse riders. A massive thank you to Day Lewis for their generous donation. A huge thank you to everyone who has generously donated but if you use the paths be aware we may not be so lucky next year so please don’t leave it to donate or it could be too late: we need to ensure we have the funds by the end of July. We will now start accepting donations for the following year, but we won’t be issuing round donation envelopes for a couple of months yet. If you want to donate now then please make a donation by either picking up an envelope from the foyer of Saltford Hall or go to our website where a specific section can be found at http://www.saltfordhall.co.uk/Permissive_paths.html This page provides a link to a downloadable Gift Aid form and details of how to make a donation. 3 4 MONTHLY ACTIVITIES AT SALTFORD HALL Please note:- Dates, times and venues may change.
