Few things can capture a child’s imagination like a good book. KNPB PBS KIDS Writers Contest invites children, kindergarten through third grade, in communities across our area to use their boundless imaginations to original stories and illustrations and then submit them to their local PBS station. THIRD GRADE: 2nd Place “Imagine… A World Where Everything Was Upside Down” by Katie CC Meneley Elementary School

6 8 9 Imagine a world where everything was upside-down. If we stood on our heads and pushed off the ground, maybe we could walk right-side-up! Although if we stood upside-down again and

10 11 pushed we could go back upside-down!

In spite of being upside-down nothing would spill or fall. Beds would stay put. Water would not fall out of the ocean. Food would not drop off the plate. People and

12 13 animals could live their lives as normal.

Also everything is upside-down. Not one single thing was right side up. If you fell out of bed or threw a ball, it’s upside-down! If people would

14 15 accidentally spill water upside-down. The main hair style would be: upside-down!

Lastly, if we tried hard enough, maybe we could walk on clouds! Perhaps if we jumped on a trampoline in a certain way we could walk right

16 17 side up. We could climb a tree and pull ourselves onto a cloud. Otherwise, we would all be upside-down. It would even rain upside-down. Imagine that!

But after all, while it would be

18 19 fun to live upside-down, I like being right side up. Which would you prefer? Upside down or right side up? What would you imagine?
