IN THE WINGS ARTS-IN-EDUCATION According to the American Association of Community Theatre. "Community theatres involve more participants, present more performances of more productions and play to more people than any performing art in the country. We are critical to the cultural life of the communities of which we are a part." Because the Civic Theatre believes in the importance of the pertbrming arts, it has developed strong outreach efforts to make the theater accessible to many who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience live performances. The IN THE WINGS Arts-In-Education Program serves as the primary and frontline contact in the Civic Theatre^. mission of outreach and education. Working through schools and soifl Eunice Wadewitz service agencies to especially target the underserved population, it strives Music & Education to introduce the theater arts to youth, their families and adults through free Director ticket performances with post-show talk backs, study guides, outreach workshops, internships, and Civic Theatre tours. Since its inception in 1988 IN TH F WINGS has offered over 145,000 theatrical opportunities and touched many lives in positive ways. The IN THE WINGS Program is funded in part by grants from the following: • Fort Wayne Community Foundation • Dunsire Family Foundation • Edward M. & Mary McCrea Wilson Foundation • Journal Gazette Foundation • Target Stores • Flora Dale Krouse Foundation • Howard P. 007-2008 The Lark is a highly theatrical retelling of the life of Joan of Arc. The Lark presents two viewpoints on the familiar story. We see Joan the reluctant martyr, who became forever a symbol of faith and courage, and Joan the simple peasant girl struggling, with honesty and dignity, to make sense of the senseless.

The script for this production of Misery was adapted by Simon Moore and based on the 1987 Stephen King novel. Stephen King is called the "Master of Horror." His books have been translated into 33 different languages and published in over 35 different countries. There are over 300 million copies of his novels in publication.

Stephen Edwin King was born on September 21, 1947 at Maine General Hospital in Portland Maine. His parents were Donald win King and Ruth Pillsbury King. Stephen was the only natural born child in the family and his older brother David had been adopted at birth two years earlier. The Kings were the typical family until one night when Donald King said he was stepping out for cigarettes and was never heard from again. c At this point Ruth took over raising the family with help from other relatives. Parts of Stephen's childhood were spent in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where his father's family was at the time, and in Stratford, Connecticut. They traveled throughout many states over several years finally moving back to Durham, Maine in 1958.

Stephen had a long list of childhood fears, as stated on the bio.com website, which included spiders, closed in spaces, sewers, funerals, the number 13, the dark, and especially the very thin line between good and evil.

His novel Misery was made into a movie in 1990, was directed by , and starred James Caan as Paul Sheldon and as Annie Wilkes. Ms. Bates won the Oscar for the Best Actress in a Leading Role.

In June 1999 Stephen King experienced a slightly similar fate as his character from Misery, Paul Sheldon the romance novelist. He was severely injured in - an accident when a motorist struck him as he was jogging along the side of thefl road. It left him in critical condition with injuries to his lung, broken ribs, a broken leg and a severely fractured hip. After three weeks of operations he was released from the Central Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine. Stephen was bedridden and required intensive rehabilitation over the remainder of that year.

In directing Misery it was important to make the fear, the threat of Annie's retaliation, very real in order to make the situation plausible and not have it come off comical. The good and evil aspects of Annie clearly exemplify Stephen King's childhood fear - the fine line between good and evil. -Phillip H. Colglazier, Executive Director o CAST

We're a part of your community.

Not everyone can say that. Large funeral service companies headquartered in big cities hundreds M of miles away have bought out a lot of other firms V in our area. And while the name on their door hasn't changed, something has.

Our name has been the same for more than 80 years because we've grown up here. We know the same people, we've shared the same dreams and the same sorrows. We're family. And we're here when you need us.
