San Anton Garden – Probably the best known of the island’s gardens. San Anton Garden was laid out by Grandmaster Antoine de Paule (1623-1636) as grounds for his summer residence. The garden is a botanical delight with mature trees, old stone urns, fontanels, ponds and formal flower beds. 8. Ta’ Qali Crafts Village & Aviation Museum – The former World War II military aerodrome was converted into a hand-crafts centre. Here one can buy something completely unique to take home. The Mosta Rotunda (closed from 1200hrs to 1500hrs) is the third largest unsupported church dome in Europe. In World War II, the church took a direct hit from a German bomb that pierced the dome, but failed to explode. Other Mosta attractions include the , the World War II shelters, the cave chapel of St. Paul the Hermit in a picturesque valley and the Chapel of Our Lady of Hope. In its limits there are also prehistoric remains such as catacombs under Fort Mosta and Bronze Age dolmens. 10. Mdina – Mdina is the old capital of Malta and its origins may be traced back to 1500BC. Mdina has had different names and titles depending on its rulers and its role but its medieval name describes it best – “Citta’ Nobile”: the noble city. Impressive palaces line its narrow, shady streets. Mdina is one of Europe’s finest examples of an ancient walled city and extraordinary in its mix of Medieval and Baroque architecture. 11. Rabat & the Domus Romana – Rabat played a major role in Malta’s history. The large provincial township was part of the Roman city of Melita. The town is a commercial centre and acts as a market for its large agricultural hinterland. It is also well established on the tourist map due to its archaeological and historical sites: The Domus Romana Museum (opened daily from 0900 to 1700 except on public holidays), Catacombs, St. Paul’s Grotto and the fine churches and monasteries. 12. Bingemma (passing) 13. Mgarr – Mgarr is a typical rural village. It is surrounded by rich farmland. The area is ideal for country walks with several picturesque spots – Bingemma, Wardija, Fomm ir-Rih and Gnejna Bay. Mgarr’s parish church dedicated to St. Mary was built in 1912. Mgarr is also home to two of Malta’s oldest prehistoric sites; Ta’ Hagrat (opening Tuesdays from 0930 to 1100) and Skorba (opening Tuesdays from 1130 to 1300). On the way to Golden Bay you will pass the Roman Baths. This heritage site is temporarily closed. 14. Golden Bay – One of the island’s beautiful sandy beaches. Together with its adjoining beach, Ghajn Tuffieha, it is unspoilt and secluded. Well worth a visit and if the weather is fine, a great bathing spot. 15. Magnificent views and photo opportunities. 16. Bugibba Square – Bugibba and its neighbours Qawra & St. Paul’s Bay are Malta’s largest seaside resort towns. The coastline has been developed into a distinct resort with hotels and numerous holiday apartments. The water on both verges of the bay is not deep and is ideal for swimming off the rocks. The bay is popular throughout the summer. Choose the stop closest to your resort. 17. Malta Sightseeing Terminus in Bugibba (near Santana Hotel) 18. Qawra Palace & Suncrest Hotel 19. The fort is only partially opened to the public. 9. Mediterranean Conference Centre - The building serves as a state-of-the-art conference centre. It was built by the Order of St. John as the main hospital of the Knights. Of great importance is the long hall which served as the hospital’s medical ward and is hailed to be the longest roofed hall in Europe. The summit between Bush and Gorbachov in 1989 which marked the end of the Cold War was hosted in this centre. 10. Fort St. Angelo - (photo opportunity) The bus will stop for a few moments. Żejtun takes its name from the Sicilian Arabic for “olive”, which was one of the main productive industries in Malta. It is also known as Ħal-Bisbut, or Casal Bisbut. 17. Zejtun St. Gregory’s Church - Before the building of the present parish church of Zejtun, now at the centre of the town, this used to be the church of the village as it was then. It was definitely the largest and one of the most interesting in the islands during the 16th Century. Its architecture attests to its antiquity, because there is an indication that some parts were actually constructed in the 15th Century while others were built during the 16th Century. 18. Marsaxlokk Fishing Village - A typical Mediterranean fishing village with colourful boats, market and fish restaurants. Mix with the locals and enjoy the fresh and relaxed atmosphere. 19. Departure from Mgarr Harbour 1. MĠARR - This is Gozo’s main harbour with its many fishing boats, yachts and ferry boats. Overlooking the harbour is and the exquisite Neo Gothic chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes. 2. RAMLA BAY – The beach is located at the bottom of a rich and fertile valley on the northern side of the Island. It is quite wide and sandy. It’s a particularly golden-reddish sand which makes this beach different from all others in Gozo and Malta. Its real Maltese name is Ir-Ramla il-Ħamra – the Red Sandy Beach. 3. SAVINA CREATIVITY CENTRE – A location run by the master franchise for a country or a geographical area, having facilities to produce fresh delicacies, stock merchandise, train staff, customise gifts and organise distribution. 4. ĠGANTIJA TEMPLES - Regarded to be the oldest free-standing structures in the world, the largest megalith to be found at Ġgantija Temples weighs about 50 tonnes and its walls reach a height of around seven metres. Altars and the remnants of a fire-reddened circular stone-hearth, possibly for an eternal flame, can still be seen. TA’ KOLA WINDMILL - One of the landmarks of Xaghra to be seen from afar is the Windmill of Ta’ Kola, lying a few scores of metres away from the Church to the north west and a walking distance away from the Ggantija Temples lying to the South. It lies on the highest point on Xaghra plateau and acquired its name after Nikola or Kola (in short) Grech, the miller who took it over early in the 20th Century. 5. CALYPSO CAVE - The location of Gozo’s most popular legend is in a cave at the end of this ridge. Calypso, daughter of Atlas, entertained Odysseus for seven years until Hermes, the messenger of the gods, was sent by Zeus to bid Calypso to release the Greek hero. 6. MARSALFORN - In the year 60 AD, the Christian Apostle Paul was shipwrecked on Malta and stayed on the mainland for three months. Legend has it that on the way to Rome from Malta his ship stopped over in Marsalforn. Today, this is a popular seaside resort. 7. VICTORIA - Due to the narrow streets, it is not possible to drive to the Citadel but it is only a short walk away. As one of the highest points on the island, historical evidence shows that the Citadel has been fortified for many centuries. The town of Victoria, locally known as Rabat is certainly worth a visit. 8. TA’ PINU SANCTUARY - Every year, many pilgrimages are made to the Basilica of Ta’ Pinu. Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu is believed to have miraculous healing powers. Ex-voto offerings, including silver objects, crutches and pictures are displayed in the church. 9. TA’ DBIEGI CRAFTS VILLAGE - Situated beneath the shelter of Gozo’s highest hill, huts and workshops furnish local unique handmade crafts such as the famous Gozo lace, sweaters, blown glass, pottery and ceramics, limestone, marble, onyx and alabaster, silver and gold, paintings and wood pyrography, leather, Tinsmith, candles and also local liqueurs, honey and preserved dried fruits in the traditional way. One can feel free for a one stop shop and relax for a while at the cafeteria /restaurant and enjoy the nice and quiet Gozitan countryside atmosphere. 10. DWEJRA - until the 8th March 2017 one could see The Azure Window, a natural arch featuring a table-like rock over the sea. At Dwejra Bay there are two famous landmarks - The Inland Sea & Il-Gebla tal-General. Here, you can catch a boat for a short ride (at an extra cost and weather permitting). 11. FONTANA - It is a village with a population of 846 people. Fontana originated from the suburb of Victoria on the Rabat-Xlendi road. Fontana is Italian name for a spring. 12. XLENDI - For centuries, Xlendi was a quiet fishing village. While this tradition continues today, it has also become a popular seaside resort with a number of small hotels, restaurants and nightclubs. 13. VICTORIA BUS TERMINUS - Until 1637, Gozitans were bound by law to spend the night within the Citadel, but after this, the surrounding area became a popular place to live. Late during the Arab period, this town became known as Rabat. Since the Jubilee of Queen Victoria of the British Empire in 1887, its official name became Victoria although it is still referred to locally as Rabat. 14. XEWKIJA - Situated between Ghajnsielem and the capital town, Victoria. The name is derived from the Maltese word “Xewk”, meaning “thistles” or “thorns”. Xewkija is famous/very well known for its majestic church, The Rotunda, which is dedicated to St. John The Baptist. It replaced an older church. This church is the Seat of the Knights of the Order of St. John. It was built from Maltese stone by local masons and craftsmen. It is the largest in Gozo and its dome dominates the village. Malta By Night

Departure from Bugibba 1. Paceville – The long, warm summer nights of Malta lend themselves to a vibrant nightlife, especially in the traffic-free zones of Paceville. Evenings start late and for many clubbers the revelry lasts into the late hours of the morning. 2. St. Julian’s & Sliema – The area of St. Julian’s and Sliema is one of Malta’s major commercial and residential areas with a number of restaurants, shops and hotels. The history of this area is generally linked to the nineteenth and twentieth century and it became very popular during the British period. In 1814 as a result of the Treaty of Paris, Malta officially became part of the British Empire and remained so until Independence in 1964. Today, this area is a popular holiday destination with a number of hotels, restaurants and English Language schools. 3. Ta’Xbiex - This area known as Ta’Xbiex has, since the time of the British, been one of Malta’s prime sites for real estate, due to its wonderful views of the harbour and Valletta, hence the number of impressive buildings of Baroque and Victorian architecture, many of which are now embassies and offices. 4. Msida – Lies on the shores of Msida Creek, one a quiet haven for fishermen and today an important marina where beautiful luxurious yachts are seen berthed next to the local fishing boats. 5. Harbours – Malta has a number of deep natural harbours. The two in this area are and the very impressive Grand Harbour. 6. Valletta – In 1530, the Islands where given to the Order of St. John after they were ousted from Rhodes. Suleyman the Magnificent, Sultan of the much feared Ottoman Empire, laid siege on the island in 1565 using a large force of fighting ships and troops. The Knights and the Maltese put up a defiant fight from their stronghold in the Three Cities overlooking the Grand Harbour and were eventually victorious. After their victory, the Knights quickly laid plans to build a fortified city on the high ridge overlooking the Grand Harbour and Marsamxett Harbour. Its first stone was laid by the Grand Master La Valette on 28 March 1566 and the city was called Valletta. 7. Mediterranean Conference Centre – The Mediterranean Conference Centre was originally built as the hospital of the Knights of St. John. At the time, it had one of the longest halls in Europe. The patients were served on silver plates and with silver cutlery for reasons of hygiene. 8. Fort St. Elmo – During the Great Siege, the fort of St. Elmo was overcome by the Ottoman fighters but it heroically diminished the enemy’s strength as it battled the invaders. Within this fort, one will find the War Museum and the George Cross medal which was given to the Maltese people by King George VI in 1942 as a sign of their bravery. 9. Castille – The monumental Baroque building, know to this day as the or simply Castille was the official seat of the Knights of the Langue of Castille, Leon and Portugal who were responsible for the defence of the part of Valletta known as St. Barbara Bastions. Today, these are the Offices of the Prime Minister of Malta. 10. The Aqueducts – The aqueduct was funded in 1610 by Grandmaster de Wignacourt. Now redundant, these silent arches once played a fundamental role by bringing water to Valletta. Due to the geological structure of the land, Malta’s sources of water are nowhere near the city and are restricted to areas where blue clay is found, mainly to the north of the island. The inhabitants of the ‘new’ city of Valletta lived with a serious lack of water for about 45 years since the only natural spring was outside the city, a few kilometres away. 11. Rabat & Mdina – Archaeological findings and historical records show that since time immemorial, there would have been a settlement of people on the high grounds of Rabat and Mdina. The number of catacombs, cart ruts and artefacts are witnesses to this. Today, Mdina is one of the main attractions with its old medieval streets and baroque cathedral and palaces. The mosaic pavements in the ruins of Roman Domus or Roman House, probably date back to the first century B.C. and rank amongst the finest and oldest mosaic compositions in the western Mediterranean. 12. Mosta – One possible interpretation of the name ‘Mosta’ derives from the fact that the town is right in the centre of the island. Mosta church is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and was built between the years 1833 and 1860 by the architect George Grognet de Vasse as an enlarged version of Rome’s famous Pantheon. It is one of the largest unsupported domes in the world after St. Peter’s in Rome and Haghia Sophia Istanbul. Mosta’s Feast Day falls on the 15th August, which is Malta’s most popular feast and is celebrated in many parished across the Island. 13. – Ancient historical records show that Naxxar has been a parish since the early 15th century. Today, Naxxar is thriving town of over eleven thousand people living in the traditional village centre or in the more modern areas with its wide avenues and pleasant surroundings. 14. Lija - A small village that forms part of the three villages of Malta, along with Attard and Balzan. Lija has a baroque parish church, seven small chapels, old houses of character, large citrus gardens & also a unique Belveder tower. Return to Hotels

Round GOZO Cruise From April to October Ask Representative for Availability

Join us on this new and unforgettable cruise that shows you what the Gozitan coastline is all about. You leave from Sliema Ferries at 1030 hrs and cruise towards Malta’s sister island, Gozo. During this cruise you will be able to see the Cliffs of Ta’Cenc. The area consists of garrigue and steep and rugged cliffs, which rise from sea level to a height of 120 m. The cliffs are identified as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International because they support 800–1000 breeding pairs of Cory’s shearwaters and 150–300 pairs of yelkouan shearwaters. You will also cruise to Dwejra Bay which is the home of the or, as it is locally known, “Il-Ġebla tal-Ġeneral”. Until the 8th March of this year, you could also see The Azure Window, a 28-metre-tall (92 ft) limestone natural arch. The arch, together with other natural features in the area, has appeared in a number of international films and media productions.
