Meet our guide and visit the archeological park of Syracuse. Drive to Messina (approx. 165km) and take the ferry to Reggio Calabria on the Italian mainland (= Rhegium; Acts 28:13, where Paul stopped). Meet our guide and visit the Museum of Magna Grecia. Mary and I are excited to invite you to join our handcrafted adult “study” trip entitled Following Paul from Shipwreck on Malta to Sat 15 May PAESTUM - to POMPEII Martyrdom in Rome. We begin our tour on Malta where we will explore the Breakfast and checkout. Drive to Paestum (435km). Visit the archeological bays where the shipwreck of Paul may have occurred as well as the Island of area and the museum of Paestum. Paestum was a major ancient Greek city Malta. Mark Gatt, who discovered an anchor that may have been jettisoned on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea in Magna Graecia (southern Italy). The from the ship that Paul was on, will guide us on land and on the water! They have a lot to teach us about life in New Testament times! After exploring Puteoli, where Paul landed (Acts 28:13), we will head to Rome. We will spend four days exploring the wonderful archaeological and traditional sites of Rome—the place Paul was imprisoned twice, and eventually martyred (as was Peter). See the details below. I will be giving mini-lectures along the way both on the bus and on the sites, drawing from my studies and from the numerous times we have visited Rome, Pompeii and Malta. We will relate what we are seeing to the New Testament and the Early Christian Church. Thus, this is not a mere tour, but a hands-on- experience as we study the New Testament and its Greco Roman background together! We invite you to join us on this unique, exciting, adventure! Tour Itinerary: Tue 11 May Depart Home Country – Book your own flights Wed 12 May Arrival on Malta — ON Malta Sun 16 May POMPEII - HERCULANEUM Arrival to Malta and transfer to the hotel. Please be ready at the lobby of Breakfast at our hotel. Meet our guide at our hotel and start a full day tour. our hotel at 13:00. Visit Pompeii (4 hours). Today we will visit two cities that were destroyed Begin a half day (5 hours) guided tour at 13:00. Transfer to Maritime Museum when the volcano Vesuvius erupted in A.D. 79! Then visit St. Paul’s Gate, Church of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, Tre Fontane church and the MESSINA REGGIO CALABRIA Mithraeum of Basilica San Clemente in the afternoon. Transfer back to our hotel. Dinner and overnight in Rome. SICILY Wed 19 May ROME — Colosseum, Arch of Titus, Palatine Hill, Forum, Mamertine Prison — ON Rome SYRACUSE Breakfast at our hotel. Meet our guide at our hotel and start a full day POZZALLO walking tour. Visit Basilica San Pietro in Vincoli (Saint Peter in Chains, home of Michelangelo’s famous “Moses”). During the day we will visit the Flavian Amphitheater/Colosseum, the Arch of Constantine, Arch of Titus with the famous Menorah from the temple in Jerusalem), the Palatine Hill (where the Roman Emperors lived), and the Roman Forum (the heart of ancient Rome), Trajan’s Column and the Mamertine Prison—the traditional site of the MALTA imprisonment of both Paul and Peter. The remainder of day is free for individual exploration. Return to hotel on your own. Dinner and overnight in Rome.
