Robert W. Parker Based on plainsong, mode viii, this joyous arrangement of veni creator spiritus is fast moving and requires a modicum of skill for both the organist and brass players. G-7602 ......................................................................... $26.00 PROCESSIONAL ON A RUSSIAN CHANT FOR BRASS QUINTET, ORGAN, TIMPANI AND OPTIONAL PERCUSSION Robert W. Parker A great prelude piece for a festive occasion, Processional on a Russian Chant is based on “Hvalite Imia Ghospondne.” The incipit of the chant is Psalm 135:1, “Praise the name of the Lord; praise the Lord, O you servants.” As is typical of Russian music, this has a low bass drone through much of the piece. Adding cymbals and bass drum enriches this festive hymn of praise, which beautifully illustrates the spirit of the psalm text. A fortissimo beginning makes way to a softer middle section that steadily swells back to a triumphal fff ending. G-7600 . $25.00 GIA PUBLICATIONS, INC | 1.800.GIA.1358 GIA PUBLICATIONS, INC. | www.giamusic.com 3 New LITURGICAL SUITE FOR ORGAN Iain Quinn Organized by liturgical year, progressing from Advent to Christmas to Easter and ending with Pentecost and Most Holy Trinity, each movement in Quinn’s Liturgical Suite is based on chant tunes of the season (veni redemptor gentium; resonet in laudibus; regina caeli, laetare; and te deum). This cohesive piece may be performed as a set or each movement can be done separately. Brisk, toccata-like passages alternate with grandiose organ sections, and the adagio movement brings a wonderful feeling of repose. Some practice time is required, but it’s a worthy challenge for the capable organist. Iain Quinn serves as music director and organist at Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport, Connecticut. Liturgical Suite was commissioned for the Seattle AGO 2009 Region VIII Convention. G-8100 ......................................................................... $16.00 VARIATIONS ON “STABAT MATER” FOR ORGAN John Kriebel These 15 variations can be played individually or as a set. G-7096 ......................................................................... $16.00 IMPROVISATION ON “WE SHALL OVERCOME” FOR ORGAN arr. Carl Haywood This wonderful improvisation on we shall overcome for organ by Carl Haywood was premiered to critical acclaim at the 2011 Hampton Conference. While moderately difficult, this beloved hymn tune from the civil rights movement is immensely rewarding to play. The piece begins with a brisk repeated arpeggio requiring a measure of skill and dexterity. It moves to a more stately articulation of the theme in the middle section and ends with triumphant majesty in a combination of the two textures. A brilliant arrangement!
