2 From the Committee

Weston Creek Molonglo junior Cricket Club WCMCC is a proud community club that continues to provide an opportunity to kids to play cricket. Growth in the region with the expansion into the Molonglo Valley, WCMCC has seen a growth in teams this season with 18 teams fielded in the Junior competition. This is the largest number of teams we have fielded for several years. This season WCMCC has been fortunate to field teams in all age groups from U10s through to U18s Colts, plus girls only teams in Cup and Plate competitions. All our 185 junior players look great in their green WCMCC shirts. #GoodToBeGreen The WCMCC Junior Committee also run our Woolworths Blasters program for WCMCC. Our Junior Blasters receive a Woolworths Blast shirt as part of their registration, Master Blasters were provided a WCMCC green playing shirt just like our Junior and Senior players. Thanks to John for co-ordinating the program and to WCMCC players Monica Gair, Sam Costello, Julia Bassett and Tom Millington for running the skills zone. This year WCMCC had 52 Junior and 68 Master Blasters in our program. We look forward to seeing some of these players transition to Junior teams next season. With the increase in the number of teams this season we spent some of your membership fees on upgrading the equipment we provide teams. Each team received new kit bags with many items within given a facelift or new items to replenish stocks of bats, pads, gloves, stumps, cones and balls. Big thanks to Stacey Costello for co-ordinating the equipment and uniforms on top of his role as Treasurer. We have done a great job supporting our teams. We can only field teams with the support and dedication of our coaches and their band of helpers each week. Please make sure you take the time to thank your coach and all those who have helped the team throughout the season. I am very thankful to all match day supporters who each week are giving our kids the best cricket experience. We appreciate your help in the form of scoring, managing a team, assisting with warms ups and throw downs, setting up shade shelters, umpiring, and providing a positive atmosphere for our kids to play. Thank you for your continued support and participation. WCMCC remains strong supporter of girls’ cricket. We have girls playing in both female teams and mixed teams. All players benefit from being part of a diverse team. It is great WCMCC continues to drive these opportunities in our junior teams. All teams have done a great job to field teams week in, week out. This year Cricket ACT has released their Junior Cricket growth Agenda Strategy to take them into the next 3-5 years. This strategy will see improvements to cricket next year and the subsequent years. The main change will be in Junior Stage 1. Which will change from U10s and U11s to Stage 1 in a move from ‘ages’ to stages’ cricket. Also more cricket will be played during January. I want to thank Debi Gair, our Junior Delegate for representing the views of WCMCC at the Cricket ACT meetings on the strategy and for her work as our Delegate to Cricket ACT. This season would not have been possible without the dedicated work of our committee. Mal Larsen worked to setup the season as our Registrar, Debi, Stacey and John, as mentioned above. Guru, Sujit, Tony and Donna as age Co-ordinators and Tony also a big thanks for pulling together the year book with Debi who arranged trophies and results with the assistance of Clare. We farewell many of our committee this year and are fortunate to have new parents step in and work together to take WCMCC into next season. One of the exciting new roles to the Club for next season is a marketing co-ordinator, we hope this will assist in promotion during the registration season as well as communications to our parent and player community. 3 I know you will continue to support our committee and jump in and help where needed. WCMCC juniors have had some great success the season. Success can be: - fielding a team to play each week, - the team had lots of fun and will come back next season, - all the players developed lots, and/or - the team made a final. We need to celebrate the teams that fielded teams every week and had fun as much as the teams that made finals. Some teams made finals but were unlucky in matches that could have gone either way. When you look through this yearbook you will find many great examples of team work and individual effort for their team. WCMCC is a big supporter of the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ and developing good sporting behaviour is equally important as developing a good cover drive. The great thing about cricket is its unique way to bring a group of players together. If they play as a team and for the team, this will lead to great achievements and effort throughout the season. There are many examples of this in the pages to follow. WCMCC celebrate runs scored and wickets taken, the Club rewards those in each team. In addition, we have Coaches’ award and Players Player for our older teams to recognise all the values which contribute to success. Each year your tally increases with each run and and we recognise these milestones throughout the junior cricket years. Congratulations to all our players and those receiving milestone awards this season. Congratulations to our Junior teams who made finals this season. U11 Div 1 were semi finalists, U18 Colts were runners up and our Girls Cup team were champions. Well done to all. For those who reached their final year playing junior cricket we wish you well in your future cricket adventures. Our Junior Club has a great partnership with the Senior Club who offer further opportunities to play next season for boys and girls. Opportunities also exist for adults who are looking to get back into cricket after time out of the game. Our Club: Like all community Clubs, we are here for you and we need you to help us continue to be a great part of cricket in our community. Pending approval from Cricket ACT in relation to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we will open our registrations for next season in July / August this year. We look forward to seeing all our players back in green again next year. Final Word from the Junior Chair This season has certainly been one to remember. We kicked off the season well and then commenced a tumultuous summer of everything you could throw at it. Games impacted by air quality, fires on our doorstep, and some truly wild weather which cricket is susceptible to. I recently heard during the coverage of the T20 last month “that’s cricket”. Cricket will throw up many challenges and curveballs – and not all of them are out on the field! Just when we thought it was getting back to normal, the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak occurred, resulting in a cancellation of many events including our Junior Cricket Presentation, which brings to me a touch of sadness as this is my final year as Junior Chair. Cricket is largely about the friendships we make along the way. Developed by the players, opposition and the parents who get involved to watch their kids play. I am personally very grateful to the friendships I have built from my time as manager, scorer, coach and committee member during my years with WCMCC.

4 I want to especially thank our committee for this season and pay tribute to those who are moving on from the committee and well as those who responded to our call for help. We are fortunate to have a good band of new parents who will continue to steer the committee under the leadership of Mal Larsen who is moving from Registrar to taking on the role of Junior Chair for next season. We send a huge thankyou to Stacey Costello who has been on the committee for many years and established sustainable processes with our finances, equipment and uniforms. Big thanks also to Debi Gair who has filled the role of Junior Delegate, Results and Trophies co- ordinator. Thank you to Guru and Sujit who have been integral to the committee for their work as Age co-ordinators and assisting with grading process. And Clare Borchers who worked with Debi on Results and Player of the Week (POTW). Tony Sparks and John Wilson will continue on the committee in new roles with Mal and will be well supported by the new committee. We all know that many hands make light work and often our committee double hat in roles of coach, manager or scorer, please continue to be involved in your child’s sport and be an active parent to keep things running smoothly. One special thankyou I would be remiss not to make is that of my family. Julia, Spencer and especially Bass are a huge support and the reason why I first became involved. We know people volunteer for many reasons and there is much to be gained from being involved. I have personally benefited and developed skills over the recent years. My family have supported me in my roles on the committee and so I thank them for bringing all of us into this cricket community. Now we turn our attention in this yearbook to the real stars of the Club – our players. WCMCC recognises the efforts of all our players and notes stand out achievements with , and coaches awards. The best part is our milestone awards, which accumulate each year as you play for WCMCC. These are beautifully presented in our annual Year Book which is a treasured keepsake for all players. Thanks to Tony Sparks for pulling together all our coaches contributions and also to Debi for arranging the fine display of awards Congratulations to all our players this season and well done on a successful season of cricket.

Donna Rousch WCMCC Junior Chair, on behalf of WCMCC Junior Committee.

5 Under 10 Hurricanes

What a fantastic season the under 10 Hurricanes have had. It has been great to see the growth of the team in their first attempt at proper cricket! As each week passed, the boys skills developed, their teamwork improved and most importantly they all had a great time. All of the boys have shown a huge amount of potential and true love for the game. We can’t wait to see them all back again next season.

Brodie Walker-Barnes. There will be several opposition players grateful they don’t have to stand 16 yards from Brodie again this season. He has a left arm in swinging to rival Mitchell Starc and he matches him for fire power with the bat. Well done on a great season!.

Hugo Giugni. Has shown huge improvement over the course of the season. When we started, he was just working bowling out and by seasons end he was dropping wrongun after wrongun on a ten cent piece. His cover drive is a sight to behold (think Greg Chappell) and he is also pretty handy behind the stumps. A true all-rounder!

Lachlan. Playing 3 years up from his own age group, Lachlan definitely held his own. What he lacked in years of experience he made up for with Hussey like enthusiasm. Bowlers beware of this lefthanders hip, as many a ball disappeared down to the fine leg over the course of the season. With ball in hand, a whippy action off the long run that rarely misses its mark!

Luca Ciocca-Marchant. The sight of Luca dancing down the pitch to smash bowlers back over their head to the boundary will have Big Bash scouts licking their lips! These skills are matched by a left arm version of Colin (Funky) Miller, mixing up quality finger spin and medium pace seamers all in the space of an over. Keep it up Luca.

Lucas Butler. A fine allrounder in the mould of Simon O’Donnell. A highly valued seam up bowler and a fantastic contributor in the middle order. Lucas enthusiasm and athleticism ensured he was not only an asset to the team in the field but also a fantastic team player. Can’t wait to see you back next season Lucas!

Luke Mowbray. With ball in hand Luke alternated between solid medium pace and ripping leg breaks that would make Warnie proud. With the bat Luke was a powerhouse. His lightening hands sent many a ball whizzing across the boundary rope this year. A great season Luke!

Oliver Radford. Has had another great season, showing huge improvements. With bat in hand Oliver crunches straight drives like a right-handed Mathew Hayden. While his perseverance with the ball saw him develop from a Tangles Walker style stride, to a menacing fast bowler who always had the batsmen on the back foot! Keep it up Ollie.

Rueben Black. Has had another great season, showing huge improvements. With bat in hand Oliver crunches straight drives like a right-handed Mathew Hayden. While his perseverance with the ball saw him develop from a Tangles Walker style delivery stride, to a menacing fast bowler who always had the batsmen on the back foot! Keep it up Ollie.

7 Under 10 Scorchers

The Scorchers had a great first season together. As coach and manager over the season, we saw the boy’s confidence and ability grow. The team has concentrated on the basics, scoring runs and taking wickets, and everyone worked hard on calling properly between the wickets and minimising wides. The “yeah/nah” call reduced as the season went on as did our wides. A big thank you to our volunteers who stepped into coach, score and get in the nets with the team each week. It has been a team effort in feeding the boys every Friday night so thank you to the families who provided us with our Friday night meal. At the start of the season we all talked about playing with good sportsmanship and in the spirit of the game, and our boys did this really well. This is something they should all be very proud of along with their personal achievements. Bring on next season. James Steenhof. The powerhouse with the bat and ball. James has been a great asset to our team, always testing his skills and trying new things. The big hitter of the team got over the boundaries a few times throughout the season, creating lots of excitement from his fellow teammates. James' positive chat in the field really helped his team to focus, and he always had a good word for the opposition as well. Thomas Orders. Tom played a number of good innings throughout the season and quickly became a valuable member of the team. As the weeks went on he became stronger between the wickets. Tom always tries his best while out on the pitch and his perseverance will take him great places. He has developed a devastating ability to swing the ball and was one of our most winning captains for the season. Noah Maguire. Noah began the season as the master of the forward defence, but the statistics show he became our bowling king. With 4 wickets in one game and at least two occasions where he was on a hat trick, Noah proved to be a consistent bowler and always kept the batsman guessing. His batting developed as the season went on, with significant runs almost every game. Noah confidence and skill was great to watch and would always listen to the coach’s advice. Thomas Fisher. Tom was a great contributor to the Scorchers this season. His bowling and batting continually improved each game and he worked hard in the field to prevent further runs. With 2 catches and a run out Tom proved to be a valuable fielder. Tom concentrated on his bowling line and length and became one of our most consistent bowlers. He always plays the game in the right spirit and his full length dives for the crease added valuable runs. Lachlan Dennington. Lachie matured as a player over the season and always brings a positive attitude to the team . His batting was consistently strong and he worked hard to improve running between the wickets and calling. His big improvement was with the ball, where a focus on following through his deliveries saw him develop into a bowler that the opposition struggles to pick and lots of wickets in the last few matches. Tomas Dawn. Tom paired up with Harry Dawn in what became our super strong opening partnership. They were very well coordinated in running and calling and added a lot of runs. Tom himself had some of our highest individual scores with the bat and kept the other teams' batsmen on the back foot with his pace bowling. With a couple of "classic catches" along the way Tom contributed a lot to the team and was always listening to the coaches. Harry Dawn. Harry is a thoughtful and considered cricketer. He takes all aspects of the game seriously and gets consistent results with the bat, the ball, and in the field. He was a real leader for the rest of the team, showing some of the less experienced players how to improve their skills and concentration. His partnership with Tom Dawn added many runs to our total each week and kept the spectators entertained. Archer Burroughs. Mr Enthusiasm. Archer runs onto the field like a rocket and really enjoys his cricket. By concentrating on his throwing and bowling action, he has been one of our biggest improvers over the season, taking more and more wickets as the year progressed. Archer's batting and running between the wickets improved every week. He was always willing to listen to the coaches and encouraged his teammates in the field.

9 Under 10 Stars

It was a tough start to the season for the WCMCC Stars, with three players retiring hurt in the first two overs of the first match against a strong CGS side. The CGS team had all clearly played a lot of cricket - most of us hadn't played much at all. However, our boys showed some great spirit and determination over the following weeks. They trained well, they enjoyed themselves, and even managed to record a win just before the Christmas holidays. That turned out to be the only victory of the season - but each match represented a victory of some sort. By the end of the season more balls were landing on the pitch, we were giving away fewer overthrows, we were scoring more runs off the bat, and the boys were starting to encourage one another more in the field. Each one of them improved over the course of the season - well done team. Singh Bhatti. Showed great improvement, particularly in bowling. Panther-like in the field, with a quick and accurate underarm throw that would have created more runouts if the grass on most ovals wasn’t so uneven. Very strong defensively when batting. Ryan Cusick. Got hit a couple of times in the first game, but showed great determination from then on. A quiet achiever, always willing to put in an effort. Bowling improved markedly over the season. A gentle lad, who never complained about anything. Phineas Knight. Highest wicket-taker, with some good pace by the end of the season. Scored some handy runs too, with a distinct preference for the leg side. Early in the season he would commit to his short before the ball had been delivered – by the end he was watching and waiting more carefully. Felix Lancaster. Highest run-scorer. Played some beautiful leg glances, and was denied more runs by long grass in the outfield. Some of his running between wickets was a bit ambitious at times, but the enthusiasm was laudable. Good consistency in bowling, with hardly any extras conceded. Parmvir Singh Parhar. Full of energy and enthusiasm, and always wanted to be in the centre of the action. Played beautiful wristy shots throughout the season and would have scored many more runs if he had watched the ball more carefully. Gave 100 percent in the field, and was always looking to back up his team mates. Nate Sattler. Was reluctant to run byes at the start of the season – by the end, he was stealing singles whenever he could. Hit a couple of fantastic boundaries in the second half of the season too, as well as a direct hit runout from the outfield. Always wanted to take wickets and score runs. Luke Taylor. The youngest and smallest member of the team, but not afraid to walk out to the middle and face the music. A natural eye for batting, with some beautiful - esque straight bat shots – he just needs to work on keeping them along the ground. Caused the opposition batsmen some headaches when he landed the ball on the pitch. Sam Taylor. Another player whose bowling improved dramatically. Unhurried at the crease – perfectly content to play defensively for as long as was needed. Watchful in the field – probably the best at evaluating if it was worth taking a shot at the stumps. No overthrows on Sam’s watch!

11 Under 10 Strikers

This season brought together a diverse range of players with varying levels of skill and experience, and although this was a challenge for the team on the scoreboard, the Strikers more than made up for this, with a strong team spirit and positiveness that defied a lack of, winning results. Coach Denis, united a bunch of enthusiastic cricketers, who consistently exhibited a positivity, reminding us all about the true meaning of junior sport and participation. The boys were tested on a weekly basis, to improve their batting, bowling and fielding, against some very experienced sides but they consistently left the field with their heads held high and a smile on their faces. A thank you to all the volunteers, who assisted with setup, scoring, ‘padding up’ the batsman and the weekly sausage sizzle, you encouraged our boys, regardless of results. Not only did the Strikers develop their cricket skills and resilience, they reminded us all, to remember how much fun it is when the scores mean nothing and the experience, means everything. Jack Smith. His timely wickets, desperation in the field and willingness to listen to his coaches, meant that he improved with every round. Jack bolstered the team with both bat and ball, always looking for a quick single and consistently trying to lift his team, in the field. Barney Mungoven. One of the most popular and supportive players, he consistently worked on his ‘line and length’ and always looked to steal a quick single with his improved batting. Two great wicket keeping efforts, behind the stumps, Barney was a great team player, throughout the season. Lewie Shepherd. Displaying a level of maturity that defied his experience, Lewie was a consistent performer with bat and bowl all season. He demonstrated an impressive ability to find line and length with a mix of leg spin and medium pace and his batting confidence and skill improved as the season progressed. Billy Lovatt. Always volunteering to assist his side with the bat and bowl, Billy consistently tried to lift his team in the field and put pressure on the opposition, to take the next wicket. A much-improved player, who all the players enjoyed having in the team. Alby Mackintosh. Blessed with infectious energy, Alby rescued the team on numerous occasions with his natural hitting and fast medium bowling on the stumps. His bowling improved throughout the season and he could always be relied upon for support in the field. Beau Rummukainen. Blessed with natural striking ability and a fearful, action, Beau was consistent for the Strikers all season. Often called up to take advantage of tired opposition bowlers and fielders, Beau had an incredible knack of finding the boundary, an asset for any side. Charlie Cecere: Always looking to support his team, Charlie exhibited genuine improvement over the season, getting ‘bat on ball’, chasing quick singles and supporting his teammates in the field. One of the most improved bowlers in the team and always with a smile on his face. William Searle: Consistently positive, William dramatically improved his ‘line and length’ bowling as the season progressed. Always ready to listen and learn from his Coaches, William was a pleasure to have in the side, both for his team spirit and ‘never give up’ attitude. Harry Calder: An imposing slingshot action with the ball, which brought fear to the opposition, he developed his batting technique with every round, stoutly refusing to give away his wicket on more than one occasion. As his confidence soared, this benefited the team immensely.

13 Under 10 Thunder

A fantastic season of cricket from a fantastic team, as their coach I couldn’t have asked for more. Each week they arrived at trainings and games ready and eager and subsequently improved tremendously. It was great to see each player have fun and enjoy spending time with their team mates and the guard of honour as batters returned to the sideline was a great sight. Each player should be congratulated on their efforts throughout the season and I look forward to seeing their progress in years to come. Thank you to Luke for his role as Manager all the parents who assisted with umpiring, scoring and general wrangling each week, it was greatly appreciated by the team and myself. Well done and go Thunder. Harry Argall. A real all-rounder of the team who showed great improvement in his batting, bowling, fielding and wicket keeping, taking a fantastic one handed diving catch behind the stumps on one occasion. Harry was a great teammate, always having fun, supporting his team and ready to train and play with a big smile. Archer Bourke. A great talent with both bat and ball, Archer not only started the season with great skill but constantly improved through listening and practice. His development and using of swing bowling had many opposition batters jumping out of the way and his straight smooth hitting was a beautiful thing to watch. Max Coulton. Max is a real competitor who loves to take a wicket or smash one to the boundary. He showed great improvement in his batting, able to hit to all sides of the wicket. Max’s movement in the field, pick-ups and throws at the stumps resulted in a number of run outs and was a real example for his teammates. Nixon Dean. A natural cricketer who did not seem out of place in the higher age group. Nixon showed a willingness to practice with bat, ball and in the field and developed into one of the most consistent players on the team. His big hitting and beautiful seam bowling was a real highlight each week. Dylan Hazell. Dylan was one of the big hitters of the team, loving nothing more than clearing his front leg and swinging hard, sending many to the boundary. He worked hard to improve his bowling and became more consistent toward the end of the season. Dylan has a fantastic throw and took a number of good catches in the field. Abby Hewitt. Abby was another one of the great all-rounders of the Thunder. She improved her bowling tremendously throughout the year and when batting her straight drives for 4 had many an opposition bowler wondering what happened. Abby’s enthusiasm and willingness to learn should see her continue to improve each year. Oscar Hickey. Oscar was a player equally as damaging with the bat or ball and many a batter was terrified watching him come of the ‘long run’. He is one of our power hitters when batting, loving nothing more than clearing his front leg and smashing the opposition to the fence. Oscar’s agility and slides in the field saw many a run out occur. Lewis Rice. Lewis was the great improver of the team with both bat and ball this season and comparing him from his first to last game is amazing. He had fun both at training and games and was a great member of the team. Lewis worked really hard on his bowling and his knuckle ball had many batters bowled out. Zachary Warnes. Zac was the ‘Mr Cricket’ of the Thunder, studying every aspect of the game and practicing hard at training and home. With the ball, his seam up in-swinger resulted in a number of wickets and whilst batting he could play shots on both sides of the wicket. Zac’s fielding was brilliant and resulted in a number of run-outs.

15 Under 11 Division 1

The U11 Div 1 team made a bunch of new mates and had a lot of fun playing cricket this summer. The boys certainly started the year with some amazing skills with the bat and ball and learned a lot about how to play cricket. This was the first year of cricket with a real ball for most of the team but they all made the transition look easy. The team made the semi- finals with a strong finish to the regular season and went up against the undefeated Eastlake team in the semi-final. They took more wickets than any other team did against Eastlake and gave the minor premiers a scare, it was a game they should be proud of. Thanks to all the parents for all the help throughout the season, particularly Manager VJ, assistant coaches Nathan and Raj and Chaz, and scorers Jason and Jordan.

Aidan Brenton. Aido has a real feel for the game with some impressive match awareness. He scored runs and took wickets but his biggest contribution was in the field where he was always on the ball and always supporting his team mates.

Abhinoor Deo. Abhinoor was one of the rocks in this years team – a reliable player who scores runs and takes wickets and always keeps the opposition on their toes.

Eknoor Deo. Eknoor has an amazing ability to hit the ball, and scored a huge number of runs this year. He also bowled fast and straight, you could hear the sighs of relief from the batters when he finished an over. And always with a smile on his face.

Ranbir Singh Dhillon. Ranbir is one of those players that can cleanly hit the ball hard, and he did so this year with some really nice looking shots. As well as taking a few wickets Ranbir did a lot of wicket keeping for the team and improved dramatically through the season.

Nayan Manoharan. Nayan has improved his batting and bowling through the season but what stands out is his skills as a wicketkeeper. Without a doubt the best keeper we saw in all of Division 1, safe as houses behind the stumps.

Taswab Rahman. Tas is a quality all-rounder and contributed to the team with the bat and ball. When struggling with an injury he simply changed from a quick to a spinner – whatever it took to keep playing – but that didn’t stop him taking wickets.

Roy Shepherd. Roy started in the team as a bowler but definitely finished the season as an all-rounder. He has also developed into an outstanding fielder, taking some amazing catches and hitting the stumps to get run-outs when the opposition least expected it.

Vishnu Vaijaiyanthan. Vish has an awesome natural ability to bat and bowl. His batting style is beautiful to watch and bowls quicker than kids twice his height. He carted many opposition bowlers to the boundary but always wanted more – a real competitor.

Elliot Van Ballegooyen. Eli is an all-rounder who improved significantly over the season. He stands out as an incredible fielder and took some impressive catches. He’s got a strong arm and did a fantastic job in the outfield for the team.

Under 11 Renegades

This year was the second year for the Renegades playing together. We had the inclusion of Jordan this year and he fitted in nicely with the other players. Each and every week the boys showed up keen to play. They were always playing their cricket within the spirit of the game which was the most important thing. The improvement in skills and cricket smarts throughout the year was amazing to see. Backing up throws and running between wickets were areas of the game that the boys really stood out. Sundries is something that that the boys can be proud of as with each game they became less and less which is attributed to the concentration during the games and dedication at training. Encouraging team mates and supporting players on other teams was something that I was extremely proud to see. I also want to thank all parent involved in the Renegades as each and every one assisted throughout the year which helped make the year so enjoyable.

Owen Shepherd. Owen hit the ball all round the wicket and bowled with some good heat. Regularly scoring runs at a high and taking wickets in every game. The live wire of team, when Owen is batting scorers, umpires and the batsman in with Owen need to be on alert as he is always up for a cheeky single.

Jim Mungovern. A stylish batsman who scores at a strike rate of almost 100 each time he strides to the wicket. Always bowls wicket to wicket with a 5 wicket haul being the highlight of his season. In the field Jim was always ready to pounce with some amazing pickups and throws at stumps.

Finn Conlon. Finn had a consistent season with both bat and ball. Always scoring runs to all parts of the ground and regularly taking wickets with his fast bowling. Encouraging the boys and keeping sharp in the field was a real strength of Finn this season.

Brodie Nokes. Brodie improved his batting throughout the season scoring runs and protecting his wicket with a strong defence. His wicket keeping and fielding is a real strength of Brodie taking some really good outfield catches.

Finlay Bayliss. Each and every time Finlay walked out to the middle we all knew that we would be in for a treat. Able to up the scoring rate by hitting the ball to and over the boundary was a real highlight. His left arm fast bowling was difficult for opposition to score off and always taking wickets.

Ryan McDonnell. The big team player who analyses the game and tries different strategies to help the team get the desired results. His batting is a real strength being able to hit the ball to and over the boundary from ball one. Always concentrating in the field and encouraging others is a fantastic trait of Ryan’s cricket.

Jordan McMaster. New to the team this year Jordan valued his wicket each and every week with a super solid defence ensuring that other teams had to do something special to penetrate that defence. His bowling improved making it difficult for opposition to score. With the gloves behind the stumps Jordan showed skills that supported each of his bowlers.

Under 11 Sixers

The Sixers came together from multiple school groups all determined to have fun and to improve their cricket skills. We regularly trained and made great progress with limited amounts of game time each week with our large number of players. Over the year our committed parents provided much needed sustenance, support and encouragement along the way which allowed for everything to run smoothly and for everyone to have fun. Many thanks to Troy for all of his help with the team, Mark for taking on the scoring duties and to all parents that contributed in various ways. Sixers, keep practicing and we hope to see everyone again next season.

Toby Aust. A great performer in all areas of the game that always gave his best when called on to support the team. Toby had a couple of great innings with the bat in the latter half of the year and will be one to watch in the future. Well done Toby.

Hamish Black. Our very own “Mister Cricket” who enjoys all aspects of the game and has shown great skills with both the bat and the ball. Hamish regularly bamboozled the opposition with his leg spin and he is developing a very strong technique with the bat and is a great supporter of his fellow team members. Top season Hamish.

Isaac Dixon. An emerging speed demon that found his line and length over the year and enjoys a mighty swing of the willow at any stage of a game. He bowled economically over the year and was great supporter and contributor in the field. Super work Isaac.

Aiden Hauck. Eager to be first and willing to give everything a go, Aiden is a great team member. He retuned back from the Christmas break with much improved batting and bowling performances to make him an important member of the team, well done Santa and Aiden.

Dylan Lapthorne. A dynamic all rounder that placed a high price on his wicket for the entire season. Dylan worked well with his teammates out in the middle and showed great agility in the field. Super season Dylan.

Lucas Lapthorne. Loves cricket and quickly learnt the value of getting in first with the ball. A regular wicket taker that delivered a rare double hat-trick during the season. Equally handy with the bat and always a schemer trying to find that winning edge. Keep going Lucas.

Joshua Nott. Unassuming and found a great niche as a natural keeper making him a key player in the team. Worked hard on developing his skills and showed good improvement as the season progressed. Great work Josh.

Fraser Smith. A great competitor that enjoys all aspects of the game and was a popular team player. Fraser took a number of great catches in the field and was a solid contributor with both the bat and the ball. Well done Fraser.

William O'Reilly. WIlsey was our secret weapon in the field taking a number of catches and he also found his place as a super wicket keeper. A great improver over the course of the year. Good work Wilsey.

Ben Spindler. A natural with both the bat and the ball and was a strong contributor with each over the year. Ben was always competing strongly and provided great support to the team over the entire season. Super work Ben.

Under 11 Thunder

A breakthrough year for the Thunder with most of the players in the team getting the feel for hardball cricket. For some it was their first year and they played like veterans. The team played with enthusiasm and supported each other throughout the year. A big plus for the season was the value they placed on their wicket. Every player made the most of their opportunities and most importantly, relished in the success of others. As the season progressed all players improved dramatically, but the aspect that impressed me the most was the sportsmanship they displayed. From the performances during the games, it was easy to see the boys certainly enjoyed their cricket. A big thank you to Kurt Masters for all his efforts in scoring as well as everyone who helped out during the season. Riley Masters. Riley really expanded his game this year, especially with the bat. When Riley was on song, the ground just wasn’t big enough for him. He applied his all-round natural sporting abilities to great effect, including some brilliant boundary fielding. Still needs to think about his bowling as when he does, he’s on target. Liam Kneeshaw. Liam’s love of the game shone through every time he took the field. Dynamic with the bat again this year, Liam was more selective with his stroke making choices and reaped the rewards for this. Tom Davies. The most consistently unlucky bowler for the year. The number of times Tom beat the bat only for the ball to shave the stumps was incredible. A great performer with bat, ball or when he donned the keeping gloves. Tom’s batting really took off this year, finding the gaps on many occasions and running hard between the wickets. Patrick Fogarty. Patrick bowled extremely well this season, and this was reflected in the wickets column. Always made it difficult for the batsman when he had ball in hand. He continues to improve as a fielder and on a few occasions stopped a certain boundary with a huge effort. Started to really make strides with the bat and once he realises that you can run when it is in the gaps he will start making some scores. James Rice. James was again the best fielder in the side be it taking a sensational catch or performing an impossible runout. James’ batting improved greatly throughout the year and looked a class player with the bat in hand by the last game. James’ bowling was very effective and he made sure if the batters were going to miss, he would hit. One other strong facet of James’ game is the support he showed in the field to his teammates. Ruben Hines. Ruben’s first season of cricket and he took to the game as if he had been playing forever. Ruben was a completely different player in game one from what was the player smashing the bowling around the park in the last game. Ruben excelled in the field and vastly improved his bowling as the season progressed. Jake Willey. Another player in his first season, Jake showed that he has a natural aptitude for the game, particularly with the bat. Jake played some of the sweetest timed shots and when he hit them, they stayed hit! Jake bowled some great spells throughout the season and with more practice will prove a more than handy bowler. Liam O’Brien. Liam improved in each game and took what he was practicing at training and implementing it in the game. A good runner between wickets, Liam was always on the lookout for a quick single or overthrow. Liam showed he has good ability in all areas of the game and will only get better the more he plays. Alex Nano. Dogged in defence, Alex took a few on his body in the early games. However, the improvements that Alex showed this season were amazing. He expanded his game, both with bat and ball, and was a completely different player from the one that started the season. Dylan Anyon. Dylan’s second full season showed just how far he has improved his game. Dylan’s bowling was fantastic this year and he also greatly improved his batting (may need to reduce the number of pirouettes when batting though). Dylan’s also surprised many opposition players with his anticipation and sharp fielding resulting in some great runouts. 22

Under 12 Division 1

The U12 Division 1 team had a great season, with a good mix of wins and losses. From the moment the season started, the team grew in confidence with every game. The team developed a strong bond with each other during the season, and we finished the season a respectable 7th from 13 teams. The team played with great spirit throughout the season.

Arham Zayan. Arham was the key batsman in the team for the season. Averaging just over 28 with a strike rate of 99, Arham played consistently in every innings. His season included 24 boundaries and two sixes in his season total of 199 runs.

Muhammad Sajid. Muhammad started the season off with a bang scoring 53no in his first innings including 5 boundaries. He played the remainder of the season well, and was an excellent batsman, growing in confidence as the season progressed finishing with an average of 18.7.

Rayyan Siraj. Rayyan had a great season, playing steadily with the ball and the bat. Rayyan played a big part in the field where he was an enthusiastic and accurate fielder.

Ihsan Hashim. Ihsan was a well rounded player for the steam. He had a great balance between bowling and batting. When batting, he was the quickest between the wickets, oftet turning ones into twos, and this showed with Ihsan being the second highest run scorer with 196 at an average of 24.5. The season tally included 24 boundaries and one six. With the ball Ihsan excelled again taking 9 for the season at an average of 13.44.

Annlies Steenhof. Annalies was the primary keeper for the team, and an excellent middle order batter. Her aggressive stance at the crease while batting, and her ability to stand up at the stumps for our quickest bowlers earned her great respect from our team, and our opponents. She finished the season with six catches behind the stumps, one stumping and four run-outs. She also added 19 boundaries for the season in her 139 runs.

Jed Bourke. Jed had a great season contributing well to the team. He always had a positive attitude in the field and was a great motivator to the team.

Samarbir Dhillon. Sam had a terrific season with the ball taking 8 wickets at an average of 12.6. His batting. His bowling improved steadily from the first game, culminating with his best bowling effort in the last game, 3 overs, 1 maiden, 2 wickets for 5.

Hugh Radford. Hugh had a steady season, scoring 171 runs for the season. He started off strongly with 43 and his season included 14 boundaries.

Ryan Mukherjee. Ryan also had a quite steady season. He managed some good scores through the season, and seemed to find his niche as an opening batsman in the middle of the season.

Alex Haines. Alex had another goo year with the club, developing his skills across all parts of the game. Alex was one of our back up keepers, and performed very well in the role.

Jared Wilson. Jared had an outstanding season with the ball this year. He took 9 wickets at an average of 9.22 and also performed well in the field. Jared continued to develop his batting through the year, and managed his highest score in the final game.

Under 12 Friday Ungraded

The U12 Friday night had a strong year with members from 3 different team coming together for the first time. After a strong start to the year we lost a couple of key games and were left with a must win match in the final round to make the finals. Unfortunately, we were unable to pull off the win, but it was a great learning experience for the players.

William Cains. Will is always such a positive, happy member of the team. When he takes the time and starts to visualise the balls he wants to bowl he was lethal to opposition teams. Luca Giugni. Luca was one of the strong batters in the side, regularly finding the boundary. Combining his batting with a solid bowling performance made Luca a pleasure to coach and watch. Isabella Hewitt. Izzy had a solid year. She always had a solid defence with the bat but this year was able to develop some power hitting to find the fence on many occasions. Jarrah Lancarter. Jarrah was devastating with the bat. When combined with Luca they were a devastating partnership that tore into the opposition bowlers. Jarrah also bowled extremely well and if he continues to develop can develop into a very good all-round player. Jacob Lloyd. Jacob really improved and grew this season with both bat and ball. In Round 5 he combined with Jack to save the team from very low score, with that partnership being the difference in the teams that day. Jacob was very strong when wicket keeping, not taking a backward step to the faster bowlers and putting his body on the line. Finn Maguire. It was a pleasure to coach Finn this year. In his first year playing cricket his improvement, especially with the bowling was outstanding. Always with a positive and chirpy nature Finn it was a pleasure to watch his growth through the season. Alastair McGregor. Alastair has taken on the hardest skill in cricket, the dark art of Leg spin. His perseverance and commitment to improving was rewarded on a windy evening at Burgmann. Alastair was able to get a ball to drift in a little on the wind, pitching on leg stump and spin back past the outside edge taking the top of off stump. Jack Miels-Barrett. Jack was very solid with the bat all year, saving the team on many occasions but it was with the ball he shone. Lightning fast, the team could count on Jack picking up a wicket. On 2 occasions he was bowling for a hat trick to only just miss. Isaac Scarano. Isaac continued to develop with the bat this year, regularly scoring runs for the team. He was also solid when given the opportunities to keep. Angus Withington. Angus excelled with his bowling this year. Coming off a long run up his constancy improved throughout the year. With the bat Angus again improved, slowing himself down and not succumbing to his impulses to swing at all balls. Charlie Rice. Charlie had a great season this year, with his bowling particularly improving in a massive way, finding a unique style that suited him. Koorosh Vakilrad. Koorosh had a solid season, his bowling improved markedly with the arm coming more upright. With the bat he has a great eye and with more practice has the potential to develop even further. Henry McPherson. Henry had a solid start to the season with bat ball and in the field. Unfortunately, Henry moved to WA and was not available after Christmas and was greatly missed.

Thunder Junior Cricket League (TJCL) Plate

I have had great fun coaching such an incredibly talented group of girls this season. The girls made the games fun but always put in their best effort. For a lot of the girls, this was their first season of cricket but they quickly became a very tight knit group and they were very quick to adapt to the sport. I can't wait to see how they all progress in the coming seasons.

Ramya Lakshmanan. Ramya has had a very successful season with the bat. She has been working very hard on developing her fielding throughout the season and has improved out of sight. She is also a very enthusiastic wicket keeper.

Sam Wheeley. Sam is very dedicated to improving her cricket. She always comes to training ready to have a good time and is always on hand with a witty comment. She has been working on both her bowling and batting throughout the season and has improved out of sight.

Leyla Manoharan. Leyla is a talented cricketer having a successful season with both the bat and ball. She is very good at sneaking a quick single whenever possible. Towards the end of the season Leyla has been working on developing her spin bowling which has shown lots of potential.

Carla Tenthorey Vinuesa. Carla had a great season with the bat. She scored plenty of fast runs for the team being one of our biggest hitters. She has also been known to sneak a few extra runs whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Tash Galeano. Tash is an incredible all round player who puts 100% into everything she does. She has one of the strongest throwing arms in the team and is also one of the teams biggest hitters scoring multiple boundaries throughout the season.

Kate Lussick. Kate is one of the team's strongest bowlers. Her dedication to improving her game is clearly paying off as her in-swing bowling has gotten her two 5fers throughout the season. She also has one of the safest pairs of hands in the team catching practically everything that comes her way.

Charlotte Smyth. Charlotte has had a disrupted season through injury but has still managed to showcase her bowling talent whenever the opportunity presented itself. She has also been one of the team's safest pairs of hands when in the field.

Tilly Hawke. We were unfortunate to not have Tilly from the start of the season while she was recovering from a meniscal injury. Her left arm bowling has been a handy addition to the team following her return as well as her dedication to wicketkeeping every game.

Elise Lovatt. Elise has worked hard on developing every aspect of her game throughout the season and has become a very handy bowler who is consistently accurate on the stumps. Her batting has also improved in leaps and bounds throughout the season.

Amelia Verri. Mia only played a few games for us before heading overseas but was fun to have in the team while we had her. She showed much potential with the bat and I hope she finds a new club and continues to work on her cricket.

Under 14 Division 1

Our team came together strongly, in what was a tough summer. Great additions including two ACT Rep girls and promoted players with some great character and real developing skills. Continued to build across disciplines and all came long way in batting technique (including some skills obviously practiced over winter!) BIG thanks again to Jacob as manager, Richard and Susannah, and all parents for your active support, particularly at training! Aarya Gururaj. Aarya continued to work hard on the most important skill, batting mindset, especially in mastering and maintaining focus. When did, was outstanding at the crease. Significant results in bowling too (key wickets) and major improvement of focus in field. Alannah Horsfall. Alannah, like Stella, joined us from the ACT Rep team and was mature and impressive as a player, in both wicket-keeping and batting. In several games Alannah played a vital role holding down an end and getting some lovely deflection shots. Asher Manton. Ash again developed well, working his way into some solid, match winning performances on the back of his determination to improve his skills, in bowling and batting. Ash’s energy is always welcome and often a huge boost for the team, especially in tight matches, or when the scoreboard suggests we’re beaten, to show that in spirit, we never are! Blake Sattler. A solid season from Blake, who also joined the team from Div 2. Blake came a long way in strengthening his foundation of batting defence and linking that to front-foot attacking shots. Keep active, building those foundations Blake, and see you next season. Charlie Leach. Charlie remains a stalwart and is maturing nicely. In bowling, he’s a real firecracker, giving many top-order batters the willies with his ‘Thommo’ like capacity to rip ‘em in. Sharp in the field this season, taking some top catches, Charlie’s still a well of untapped ability as a batter. Huge potential for big scores when engage batting-power through drives. Cole Phillips. Cole has really continued his growth as a cricketer this season, consolidating his place as a player the team could rely on in tough situations. From effective key-wicket taker, to really sharp fielding and repeatedly holding down his end in the batting when we really needed him. Connor Campbell. Promoted from Div 2, Connor quickly became a valued member of the team in bowling and batting. His capacity for pitch, flight and movement in bowling bamboozled some of the best batters, and over the season proved he can stand strong at the crease with the best of them, belting forward-step shots to the boundary like a pro! Grady Woolley. Another strong season for Grady delivering in lots of key moments (again!). From refining his swingers (in and out) and mixing them up, to his continued dedication to improving his batting techniques and turning defence into runs through power drives! Train over winter and next season will be a break-out. Liam Cristofani. Liam again proved himself a handy all-rounder, putting in some solid batting, bowling and fielding performances. Tactically Liam developed further, targeting batters’ technique shortcomings and mixing it up in the bowling to ‘think’ them out – often with exceptional deep field catches from team-mates. Oscar Luck-Cameron. ‘Jatz’ again maturing nicely. Very considered, thoughtful player, well- grounded continuing to grow and develop both as a cricketer and as a young bloke, with noticeable growth in batting which will set him up well into the future. Keep training and next season may well see you get big results. Rhys Bandara. Rhys came on in leaps and bounds this season, again bringing his thoughtful and positive strength that was invaluable at times when we needed a solid dig or a surprise wicket (to surprise the batter, not us!). With some off-season bowling machine work, Rhys should get off to a flying start next season. Stella Wilde. mature beyond her years, Stella’s one of the best bowlers we’ve had. Consistently balanced and focussed in her opening bowling, managed to pin down opening batters hoping for a break-out, and frequently weave it through their defences. Stella grew a lot during the season, learning a lot through her ACT Rep team and with us. 30

Under 14 Division 2

A great season for the Under 14 Division 2 team, with some fantastic performances in both the T20 and Sunday competitions. The skills and abilities of all players continued to develop and the games were played in a right spirit. Thanks to all parents for their support, particularly those who scored and umpired during the season.. Andrew Sparks. Andrew’s all round abilities continued to develop this season, with some impressive contributions with both bat and ball. His accurate medium pacers secured a number of wickets and he scored valuable runs on a number of occasions. Daniel Sparks. One of the senior members of our team, Daniel made steady progress throughout the year. He often opened the bowling and used his strength and speed to intimidate opening batsmen. Daniel was a very handy middle order batsman with an aggressive approach. Angus Sheppard. Our wicketkeeper Angus had a very strong season. He took a number of great dismissals throughout the year and kept byes to a minimum. He also had a number of important innings at the top of the order and relied on his strong technique to blunt opening bowlers. Jimmy Roberts. Jimmy’s cricket continues to develop across all areas. His batting continued to mature over and he contributed important runs on more than one occasion. His bowling, either medium pacers or spin, were valuable and picked up a number of handy wickets throughout the year. Huizafa Khurram. A relative newcomer to cricket, Huizafa had a great season. Of particular note was his bowling, which increased in speed as he continued to improve his line and length. His aggressive stroke play was also valuable to the team.. Eddie Mungoven. Eddie had a great year and was a valuable member of the team. His accurate medium pacers were invaluable and kept many opposition batsman under control. He was also important in the field and used his speed to keep opposition batsman under pressure. Mathulan Tharmasvaran. Mathulan’s batting and bowling has continued to improve throughout the year. His offspin bowling deceived many batsman throughout the year and he picked up many wickets through his flight and spin. Mathulan’s batting also continues to develop. Harrison Haitsma. Our tearaway opening bowler, Harrison bowled with pace and aggression when handed the opening bowling duties. On more than one occasion, Harrison dismissed opposition batsman with pure speed. Oliver Haines. Oliver is a genuine all rounder and is handy with both bat and ball. A dependable upper order batsman, Oliver never gave his wicket away cheaply and was the rock in our innings on more than one occasion. Oliver’s line and length kept opposition batsman under control. Alex Donaldson. Alex was an integral member of the team and made positive contributions with bat and ball. Alex terrorised opposition bowlers with his strong stroke play, particularly to the on side. His medium pacers were also handy when we needed to reduce the opposition’s run rate. Archie Davidson. Archie’s explosive batting and deceptive off spin bowling were invaluable assets for our team this year. Archie also took a senior leadership role in the team this year, and supported the with field placings and on-ground tactics. Param Bhatt. Param is a stylist batsman who tended to bat at the top of the order. Param’s offside play was particularly impressive and kept a cool head when called upon to open the batting. Param’s medium pacers also kept opposition batsman under control.

Under 15 Division 1

It has been great coaching the team again this season. The kids are developing into fine young adults and it has been a pleasure traveling on this journey with them. We have had great fun at training and formed lifelong friendships. Our season of cricket has been full of “close calls” and “almosts” having lost 4 games in the last over by a couple of runs or a wicket. On each of these occasions our players exhibited great sportsmanship which is not something that I can say for all our opposition. I am very proud of the team and look forward to following their cricket for years to come. Jack Carey. Jack has bowled very well this season. He has opened the bowling for us most of the season and has taken regular wickets throughout. His bowling action is strong and uncomplicated, making him a very accurate bowler at good pace. Jack is a pleasure to have in the side and I hope he plays for many years to come. Alex Godfree. Alex had a great season with the bat. He opened the batting in the 2-day comp and got us off to a great start on most occasions. In the one-day comp Alex batted in the middle order and played some of the most exciting innings I have witnessed in junior cricket, culminating with a superb 64 off 34 balls against Norths. Toby Brenton. Toby has had another strong season with the ball and has been one of our leading wicket takers yet again. Toby’s batting is developing well, and he has played some good innings for us. He is developing his scoring options and is learning the art of the quick single. I have no doubt he will have a strong season again next year. Corey Sattler. Corey has scored a huge amount of runs this season. He has become a very fine batsmen and is very astute at summing up the game scenario. He can play the long innings when required and is very capable of scoring rapidly when needed, this ability is a rare skill. It’s been a pleasure to coach Corey again this season. James Smith. James is a natural athlete who works hard on his game. He is always full of enthusiasm, has a competitive spirit and is supportive of his teammates. James finished the season as one of our leading wicket takers and has been a pleasure to coach again this year. Cooper Bridge. Cooper has been restricted by injury for most of the season but when he has been able to play he has again proven to be one of our most consistent and valued players. Cooper is a genuine allrounder who is always working hard on improving his game and sets high standards for himself. Amal Palekar. Amal’s accurate bowling has been an asset right throughout the season. She has slowed opposition run rates at times when our opponents are looking to accelerate them and has taken regular wickets. She is always solid with the bat and is a pleasure to have in the team. Ammar Khalid. Ammar is a fun person to have around a cricket team. He is always smiling and ready for a joke with friends. Ammar has scored some very important runs for us this season and is probably our strongest and safest fielder. Unfortunately for Weston Creek he has moved overseas and we wish him all the best for the future. Liz Coper-Jones. Liz has been superb this season. She has led the team well, sometimes in difficult and tense circumstances. Liz bowled well when she has taken the ball and has always been reliable with the bat. Liz is a pleasure to coach and will always be one of the first picked in my teams. Matt Phillips. Matt is a good all-round cricketer, he takes wickets, scores runs, has an incredible arm and holds catches. He is often the life of the party in the field with his witty descriptions of events. Matt has had a great season and was rewarded for the extra work he has put in at training. Owen Gair . Owen hasn’t had the season he was hoping to have but he has learnt a lot, become more determined to improve on his game and started to gain the consistency with the bat he displayed last season towards the end of the year. Owen took up spin bowling mid-season which is progressing well and will add another element to his game next year. Grace Lyons. Grace has juggled her many representative commitments well this season, but unfortunately for us, this has meant we haven’t had her available as often as we would like. She is a superb player and a superstar in the making and we look forward to saying that we shared a cricket field with her when she makes her international debut. Conrad Steenhof. Conrad has been one of our leading wicket tackers this season. His pace has increased throughout the season as his confidence has increased and he has used his run up to better effect. Conrad swings the ball which has proven hard for opposition batsmen to face. I can only see more wickets coming his way next season.

Under 16 Division 1

What a pleasure it’s been coaching such a great group!! Unfortunately, after the Christmas break the season was interrupted by the weather but otherwise, I hope everyone had a fun and enjoyable season. A very big thanks must go to our manager Madeline Hyauiason for keeping everyone informed and for entering the scores into my cricket, Andrew Schmid for scoring and to Neil and Carlos for umpiring each week. I wish everyone all the best for the future and to those who are continuing next season, good luck and keep up the good work. Izaak Strecker. Izaak showed great improvement over the season. He bowled well when required and was handy with the bath and in the field. Hopefully Izaak continues his cricket and I wish him all the best. Kyan Russell. In his second season, Kyan has come a long way with his cricket. He has improved a lot in all aspects of his game. Kyan took some important wickets and was often hard to score off. He also spent some valuable time at the crease and hit a few boundaries as good as any seasoned cricket player. I hope Kyan continues to enjoy playing the game. Sam Schmid. Sam’s second season of cricket has been pretty consistent. Sam always shows a keen willingness to learn helping to improve his cricket. Both at training and at games, Sam always gives 100%. A valuable member of the team. Seth Goodwin. After starting the season with a flurry of runs, Seth probably didn’t have the season he’d hoped for. He did a good as captain and was our top run scorer. At times, Seth’s left arm slow / medium pace proved difficult to score off and took some valuable wickets. I hope Seth continues playing next season. Thomas Sparks. Tom ended up our leading wicket taker and wasn’t far off topping the runs list either. Add to this some brilliance in the field, Tom had a fairly solid season. I wish him all the best for next season and beyond. Saad Khalid. With his one of a kind bowling action, batting stance and smile, Saad was a valuable and well liked member of our team. He performed well with both bat and ball. Saad moves overseas just before seasons end. Arsal Amin. Arsal is a very keen cricketer with a good knowledge of the game. He performed well batting in various positions and had a couple of important innings. He bowled well when required and was always willing to take on any task given to him. Oliver Evesson Larsen. Solid as rock at the the top of the and our ever reliable wicket keep keeper, Oli had another good season. His technique when batting shows the skill he has. All the best mate. Jack Evesson Larsen. Jacks express though sometimes wayward pace bowling certainly gave the opposition something to think about. This helped jack become one of our leading bowlers. Always solid in the field and scored some handy runs through the season. Pranay Palekar. Unfortunately Pranay missed a big part of the season but when he was able to play, he very eager to be involved. Although being younger and a fair bit smaller than most of the under 16’s Pranay showed courage to take on whatever he was up against. Pranav Arun. Pranav also missed quite a bit of cricket this season. He did however put together a couple of good batting performances both up and down the order and bowled some handy overs when required. Kyle Hyauiason. Playing both Juniors and grade, Kyle had a busy season. Kyle did a great job opening the bowling for us and was handy with the bat earning him a batting awards. Kyle also called back an opposition batsmen after he was given out as Kyle wasn’t 100% sure he’d taken a catch cleanly. I hope Kyle goes as far as he hopes and I wish him all the best. Rafael Roberts-Elgueta. After probably not having the season he’d hoped with the bat, Rafa’s bowling was solid earning him one of our bowling awards. He did a great job in the field each week and was a valued team member. I wish him all the best for the future. 36

Thunder Junior Cricket League (TJCL) Cup

The WCMCC Cup team is a great group of girls and fantastic cricketers. Every team member gets along and they all support one another in their performances. Their talent and skills stand out against other teams and is a great reflection of the growth in women’s cricket.

Emma Loaney. Emma once again showed how much she loves her cricket and displayed great determination out on the field. You can see her development as a player and I appreciated her focus, as one of the oldest in the team. She has improved so much in all aspects of her game.

Stella Wilde. Stella is one the most talented players in her age group but always put her teammates first. She is a great team player, and a very accurate and fast bowler. She has also improved her batting greatly, making some big scores over the season.

Alana Horsfall. Alana is one of the most all-rounded players, she’s an amazing keeper, and a fearless batter. This year Alana injured her finger half-way through the season, so she decided to work on her bowling. After coming back from summer holidays, she was bowling faster than ever and became a real asset as a bowler.

Annabelle Wheadon. You can hear Annabelle from anywhere on the field, she is always full of energy and cheering on her teammates in the game or on the sidelines. She has really improved in both batting and bowling this year and is a very important part of the team.

Laura Johnson-Bailey. Laura has grown a lot of confidence in her game this year and performs well in her bowling. In both the semi and grand final, she took very important catches and has played a great role in the team, with the improvement in her fielding.

Amelia Faulkner. Amelia has developed so much this year; she has taken on a bigger role as a keeper in the team and has greatly improved her bowling. She is very easy to coach and always listens well.

Audrey Faulkner. Audrey has once again been a great leader this year as the oldest in the team and always comes to games, with a plan. Her bowling has only become better and faster this year, and she’s made a real impact with her batting too.

Bella Hawke. Bella is one of the fastest runners between the wickets and was a great asset at the top of the batting order this year. Her bowling has continued to beat the batters every time and she has shown great leadership when she captains.

Tia Slater. Tia joined the team later in the season, as a fill in, but became an important part of the team. She made her mark in the few matches she got to play with her attacking bowling and batting and fit in perfectly with the girls.

Clare Fogarty. Clare is always a handy bowler and proves every week she can knock a batting order over with her accuracy. In her first year of cup she has improved a lot and fit in well after filling a few times last year.

Thea Parkes. Thea unfortunately had to leave the team later in the season but improved a lot in her first year of cup and showed determination to develop.

Colts

We had a good season, unfortunately numbers on game day hampered our T20 campaign, we made the One Day final but were pipped at the post by Grammar’s bowling effort.

Isaac Bryson. Isaac started the season with a bang and had a good season all round with the bat, ball and gloves. He is an extremely capable batsmen, and with more time in the nets over winter he really has the potential to move up the grades in seniors. Sam Costello. Sam really stepped up in the One Day competition this year, we know he can blast quick runs, but two centuries and some 50’s showed that he is maturing as a batsmen, his bowling returned to form this season and as usual his fielding was on point. Tom Dears. Tom returned this season after a season away from the game and as the season progressed he produced his trademark line and length which had Grammar scratching their heads in the final, he is often too good for the batsmen and beats the bat. Will Granger. Will joined the team this season with no cricket experience and took to it like a duck to water. He became an opening bowler and an awesome fielder, and I was impressed with is natural talent, and lets not forget his witty on field banter that really lifted the team. Daniel Khan. Daniel only joined us for a few games this season as I understand his music career is taking off and Sunday mornings after a gig are difficult. When he did play, he continued to baffle the opposition with his left arm spin and cleaned up Grammar at Mawson. Owen Levings. Owen captained effortlessly again this season and was quite devastating with the ball, particularly in the final where he tore Grammar apart. His batting was good as usual, but he was unlucky not to go on with a few innings where he copped some great balls. Callum Lightfoot. Callum joined the team this season and caused plenty of opposition batsmen issues with his bowling, taking 9 wickets in the One Day format. Unfortunately, due to rep soccer commitments we weren’t able to have him for all games, or the T20’s. Callum Loaney. Callum was also new to the team this season and had some opportunities with the bat but copped a few good seeds early. He showed in the final that he has a good eye with the bat and just needs to be more confident at the crease and runs will come. Sam Manton. Sam had a great first season in Colts, and this flowed into his grade form, unfortunately he missed our final to play 2nd grade. With in excess of 300 runs for the season and extremely solid with the gloves or bowling he is definitely a game changer. Tom Millington. Tom scored nearly 300 runs for the season with an average of 31 in the One Day format and 22 in T20’s, with his patience again his strong point. As usual his fielding was excellent, and his left arm bowling causes many issues for opposition batsmen. Sam Molloy. Sam was his usual flamboyant self with the bat and unfortunately copped a good seed first ball in the final, if he was able to open up the shoulders for even a few overs it could have been a different result. His fielding his awesome and his bowling is very handy. Ryan Mullan. Ryan played his first season of cricket for quite some time but slotted into an opening bowling spot with ease. Toward the end of the season we saw what he could do with the bat and he showed with his ’86 Gray Nic scoop that he can find the middle well. Sean Murphy. Sean is always a pleasure to watch with the bat and his banter is awesome always, but unfortunately with representative soccer commitments he didn’t get us much game time this season as we would have liked. Liam Whitby. Liam returned to cricket this season after a stint away from the game and really stepped up his bowling. Unfortunately, a shoulder injury slowed things down. In the final he showed us his batting prowess, hitting through the field to easily find the boundary.

Grand Finals 2019/2020 TJCL Girls Cup Final WCMCC 3/99 defeated Tuggeranong 8/98 Batting: A Faulkner 52no, B Hawke 16 : Bowling: A Wheadon 2/5, C Fogarty 2/7 This year’s Cup Grand Final was a great experience for the girls and demonstrated their talent and growth as a team. There was a fair amount of pressure on the girls, playing against an undefeated Tuggeranong. Tuggeranong and Weston Creek have improved so much and were both deserving of a win. The match was very tight and both teams put up a good fight in a roller-coaster finish. We came into this match off a big win from the semi-final and the girls were excited for more. Originally placing 3rd on the ladder, we were a chance to not make it to the final at all because of weather, but we pushed for a match and put on our best performance. Alana with the help of Stella, lead the team phenomenally and she also went on to make 60 runs. There were a few stand out performances and every player contributed. We wanted to bat first and lost the toss, but they sent us out to bat anyway. I told Audrey, the Captain, we are good enough to put up a respectable total and good enough to defend whatever we make. We started with Audrey and Alana who opened in our semi-final and had set up the team well. Both girls are attacking players and run hard between the wickets. We unfortunately lost Alana quite quickly, but Audrey stayed on to make a solid total. Every girl who had a bat fought hard for runs and batted with aggression and intent. The Tuggeranong bowlers were very consistent, and our girls worked hard to make the total they did. We ended up with 3 for 99 with a great partnership between Audrey and Bella. Audrey stepped up to make her highest score of 52 runs off 55 balls and batted with disciplined intent. We knew Tuggeranong had a strong batting side, but we were in the match with a fantastic bowling attack. We have some of the fastest, most accurate and most intimidating bowlers, and our fielding is awesome. You could tell the girls wanted this win, they all supported each other and stayed focused in the field. We got some of their best batters out early and the wickets continued steadily. We seemed in control with our wickets, but our bowling was loose at times and they took advantage. They were getting very close to our total and it seemed like they were going to win. It got to the 18th over and they only needed a couple of runs and we needed two wickets. Alana came on to bowl her 3rd over, after keeping the first half, and took a wicket with only two runs for them to win. On the last ball of the over Alana bowled an LBW which was plum, and we won the game. Every girl on this team played an important role in the match and getting the team to this stage. Unfortunately, not all the girls were able to play, due to sickness, but they all celebrated together after the game and cheered on each other’s achievements. The leadership group of this team have all helped so much in how the team works together and they are able to run the game themselves, with little instruction. Audrey, as captain during the final, made some last minute but effective decisions and with help from others, lead the team successfully to the win. Player of the match: Audrey Faulkner

Colts – One Day Grand Final Weston Creek Molonglo 10/60 defeated by Grammar 10/100 Batting: Sam Costello 16, Isaac Bryson 15* Bowling: Owen Levings 4/19, Sam Costello 2/15 Grammar batting - We lost the toss and Grammar decided to bat. Ryan and Will opened the bowling for us and were looking good, but Ryan was sliding and struggling with grip at the crease in his first over. Owen replaced Ryan and struck on the fourth ball bowling Allada for a duck to the delight of his teammates. A dot ball followed, then he struck again getting Gazard for a duck; at 2 for 13 WCMCC were flying high. Will was again solid before Owen picked up his third with the opener Martin caught by Isaac for 17. The very next ball Owen picked up Budgen LBW and Grammar were 4 for 19. Jasper Haskins was next, determined to start strong before Will delivered a peach and got his edge, Sam Costello took a magnificent catch at first slip about an inch off the ground. Will and Sam did it all over again to give Will his second wicket and Grammar were in trouble at 6 for 29. Bryce Junk-Gibson was the next to the crease and as he had done all season, he caused us some issues with the bat, he batted well with Swan before being picked up LBW by Sam Costello for 41. Ryan returned to the attack and clean bowled N.Swan to put a dent in the tail. Tom Dears after beating the edge all day decided he needed to straighten up and knocked over O.Swan’s middle stump. Sam Costello then clean bowled Herath to wrap Grammars innings at 10 for 100, a magnificent display of bowling and fielding. WCMCC batting - Sam Costello and Tom Millington opened the batting for us and the two left handers were ticking along nicely with Sam hitting three boundaries in the first few overs before seeing the opportunity to drive over the bowlers head. He hit it very hard and it looked to be a boundary for all money before Gazard took a screamer over his head, leaping backwards and catching a well struck ball in his fingertips. Sam’s departure brought Callum Lightfoot to the crease, unfortunately he was bowled by Maxwell for a duck after surviving the first ball from a fired-up Bull. This saw Owen come to the crease with his long-time partner in crime Tom. They were looking good for a few overs before Maxwell struck again with a lovely seaming delivery that nipped back sharply to bowl Tom. As it did for WCMCC, the pitch was offering something for the Grammar bowlers and Tom’s departure saw Isaac join Owen in the middle at 3 for 19. Isaac and Owen steadied the ship for a few overs before the pitch struck again with a sharply seaming ball picking up Owen for 10 just two balls after he had hit a glorious boundary. Ryan joined Isaac and we were hoping for the type innings Ryan played against Ginninderra where he smashed them around the park, but Allada was too good and snuck through to bowl Ryan. Liam then came to the crease and for a few overs we looked to be back on track, with Isaac playing the support role Liam was really taking it to the bowlers and hitting with great intent until he didn’t quite get one and was caught for 11 by Walker. Will was next in but Gazard struck first ball. Tom Dears then joined Isaac and he survived some great delivery’s until Isaac called yes then no when he didn’t see a fielder first up and left Tom stranded at the non-striker’s end. Sam Molloy was next in and we were all hoping for a flamboyant display as we know what he can do when he lets loose but he chopped the first ball onto his stumps. Callum Loaney supported Isaac nicely for a few overs and was hitting the ball well before Maxwell struck again with some assistance from the pitch to finish off WCMCC at 10 for 60. We had a great season, and if a couple of things went our way we could have been walked away with the trophy, but Grammar were strong all season and deserved the win. I was very proud again how the team conducted themselves throughout the season. Player of the grand final: Sam Costello, Owen Levings

Rhys Bandara - U14 Comets Academy During the 10 week Comets Regional Academy program, I learnt many things in all areas of cricket. This includes the fundamentals of batting, bowling and fielding as well as professional advice on the mental side of the game. The coaches also worked on our physical strength and gave us advice if we needed it. Along with that, the coaches gave us a handbook to refer to in the future. Apart from the 10-week program, the squad was also divided into 2 teams for the Kookaburra Cup which is a 4-day tournament, where I gained t-20 experience, made new friends and had a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the experience in general and hope to do it again.

44

Aayra Gururaj - U14 Comets Academy Representing Weston Creek at ACT cricket this season was a fantastic opportunity to learn and understand more about my cricket and about cricket in general. This season Cricket ACT changed their name from Emerging Comets to Comets Regional Academy, the participants were offered 8 specialised training sessions including guest stars such as . Towards the end of the season, our games commenced, with the first three 40 over games washed out due to various weather events. Fortunately, Cricket ACT extended the season converted the matches to a T20 form, with 2 matches a day over 2 weekends. The ACT Blues of which I was part of, won 2 of the 3 matches and made it to the finals. On the final day, I was able to bring all the learning to practice and performed well, with my final contribution to the team as following, 1. Bowling 7.1 – 2 – 28 – 3 2. Fielding – 1 catch 3. Batting – Opening the innings and scored 17 of 31 (2x4) chasing 86 of 20 overs. Overall this season of representative cricket has been very enriching and has changed the way I play and enjoy the game. I hope I can play the representative game for many years to come.

Chairman’s Awards

It gives me great pleasure to present the Chairman’s award to Sam Costello. Sam has had an excellent junior cricket career with Weston Molonglo Cricket Club. During his years with the Club he has amassed an abundance of runs, wickets, catches and runouts. Several times he has been awarded the ACT Cricket player of the week for outstanding cricket results across all junior teams, his ability to amass a large amount of runs in a small amount of deliveries is something special to witness. Sam has accumulated 2861 runs, 113 wickets with over 50 catches and many runouts, serving his team well. On top of this he has volunteered his time back to the Club, particularly in the days when cricket school was run in the holidays. Sam assisted with the delivery of the program including the sausage sizzle at the end. This has seen him move to the paid role of one of our Blasters skills zone. Sam has gone on to play in Cricket ACT regional teams and is also a Senior WCMCC cricketer. We look forward to hearing more highlights from your cricket and know you will be an asset to any team you are part of.
