Shooting Guard Day 9:00-10:00: Warmups ● 9:00-9:15: Stretch/Roll Call O Spread the Children out Across the Court Day 2: Shooting Guard Day 9:00-10:00: Warmups ● 9:00-9:15: Stretch/Roll Call o Spread the children out across the court. 8 lines. ● 9:15-9:30: Explain the camp o Introduce coaches, curriculum, and schedule ● 9:30-9:45: Form six lines on the baseline. o Regular: Running, Back pedal, high knee, power skip, karaoke, defense slide, Frankenstein, lunges, bear-crawl ● 9:45-10:00: Ball Warm-up o Right hand, left hand, V dribble, backpedal dribble 10:00-11:00: Drill Stations ● Drill Station 1: V-Cut/L-Cut/backdoor o The coach will stand at the top of the 3-point line to start. Two lines will form on both wings of the 3-point line. Players from each line will take turns cutting for the ball. Once the cut is complete, the coach will pass to the player for a spot-up shot or lay-up. Emphasize agility and quick changes of direction. ● Drill Station 2: Help defense (One pass away) o 3 offensive players will line up around the 3-point line, within passing distance. 2 players will stand between them in defensive stance. The offensive players will pass to one-another around the perimeter. The defensive players will practice switching and help defense. Emphasize the fundamentals of 1 or 2 passes away. ● Drill Station 3: Elbow to elbow shot challenge o Set up two cones at each end of the free-throw line. The coach will stand under the basket, while the player begins at either cone. The drill begins when the coach passes to the player. The player will shoot from the cone, and then slide their feet to the other cone to shoot again. A missed shot is - 2, a made shot is +1. If a player gets to +5, they win. If a player gets -10, they lose. Emphasize the importance of shooting percentage. ● Drill Station 4: No dribble layup/ “give and go” o Lineup in two layup lines. One top of the key, and one at the wing. The player at the top of the key starts with the ball and passes to the wing player. The player then cuts down to the basket for an easy layup. The wing player passes to the player at the basket for an easy layup. Move the layup lines around the perimeter for extra challenges. Emphasize that there should be NO dribbling. Show that great SG’s don’t need dribbles to score. 11:00-11:15: Snack #1 11:15-12:00: Scrimmage ● We will separate the group into 4-6 teams (depending on amount of kids) ● 2 games will run at once. Each game will have a coach assigned to each team, and a referee. ● Questions to ask after games: o Who can get the most assists? o Who can control the floor? Prevent any inappropriate language or contact. While there is debate about the pros and cons of the one and done rule, few studies have fully examined how minimal (or no) college experience relates to performance in the NBA. The current study used publicly available offensive and defensive statistics for all players in the NBA from 1995-2016, to examine the relationship between years of college experience and career success in the NBA. Results showed that players with less college experience had better offensive, defensive, and advanced metric (PER and VORP) statistics than players with more college experience.

    How to Play Basketball Offense - Description of Team Positions Over the years, as shooting, passing, and dribbling have become more sophisticated, offensive alignments have changed. They probably will continue changing in the future. Rule changes often dictate this. For example, take the three-point shot. This is changing the philosophy of a lot of coaches. Previous to the three-point shot, big men were dominating the game. Teams constantly looked for ONLY a close-in shot. As a result, most defenses packed back in tight. The three-point shot is changing all this. This new rule has opened up the game. Defenses must come out. It is quite common to see coaches using 3 and 4 guard offenses. Some of them even have their offensive teams and defensive teams, substituting freely to suit the particular need. Fundamentals, however, remain much as they were 40 years ago. Things that worked then, still work today. The terminology used to describe offensive alignments are different than they were 40 years ago. Some team offenses have evolved so that every player must be able to play at any and all positions. The flex offense is an example. Yet, this type offense is over 30 years old. Us old timers called it "the shuffle." In either offense, the center often finds himself out at a guard position. This type offense is well suited for today's rules; however, adjustments are made to fit the abilities of available players. High school coaches always have to adapt. College coaches simply recruit the players to fill a void.

    Understanding Player Positions in the NBA Luke Lefebure Stanford University [email protected] December 12, 2014 Abstract To better understand the meaning of positions in the NBA, I train several models to predict a player's position from his stats, such as average speed on the court and number of three point attempts per game. The NBA and ESPN use different position labels, so I compare the performance of my models in predicting these labels separately. Ultimately, I hope that this analysis can determine how well position labels describe NBA player roles and identify the defining characteristics of each position. 1 Introduction Basketball is a unique sport in that there are no position specific rules or statistics. All players are traditionally measured by the number of rebounds, blocks, and steals they get on defense and the number of points they score, passes they make, and assists they get on offense. Therefore, position labels can be somewhat ambiguous: the NBA classifies players as either a Guard, Guard-Forward, Forward, Forward-Center, or Center, and ESPN classifies players as either a Point Guard, Shooting Guard, Small Forward, Power Forward, or Center. This has led some to do cluster analysis on NBA players to discover more and "new" positions other than the traditional five [1]. The goal of this analysis is to determine how well existing position labels actually describe a player's game. This is done by building models to predict position label from player stats. I consider two different position labeling schemes, namely those given by the NBA and ESPN, and compare model performance in predicting these labels separately.
