POPULATION

• Between 2010 and 2015, the population grew 12.5%. Over the next five years, this trend is expected to continue, with the population expected to grow 8.2%. In comparison, Manhattan’s population has grown only 3.4% over the past five years, and is ex-pected to grow only 2.9% over the next five years.

• 43.6% of the Long Island City population is in their prime working years between the ages of 25 and 44, in comparison to 30.4% in all of Queens, and 27% in Manhattan.

• 46.5% of the population has earned a Bachelor’s Degree or higher, in comparison to 29.9% in all of Queens. 31.4% of households earn over $100,000 per year, in comparison to 25.0% in all of Queens. The neighborhood’s highly educated and house-hold average earnings will continue to grow, as it continues to establish itself as an extension of Midtown Manhattan and attract new residents and businesses.

ECONOMY

• Queens has the highest level of employment among the boroughs outside of Manhattan, grow-ing by 6.6% over the past three years. The borough has also achieved employment averages consis-tently higher than the Citywide average over the past two decades because of its diverse economy.

• Private Sector Employment in Long Island City is extremely diverse, with 22% of employees in Health Care and Social Assistance, 12% in Transportation and Warehousing, 12% in Retail Trade, 9% in Construction, 9% in Professional and Business Services, 8% in Food Services, 6% in Financial Services, 5% in Manufacturing, and 17% in other industries.

• With the neighborhood’s proximity to Roosevelt Island and Midtown Manhattan, Long Island City serves as a feeder market to the many hospitals along First Avenue including Mount Sinai Beth Israel, NYU Langone Medical Center and Memo-rial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, among many others, and the future Cornell Tech campus that will be opening its first phase in 2017 compromis-ing of about 800,000 SF of academic facilities and 600 students, and up to 2 MSF and 2,500 students when completed in 2043. 2 7 - 1 0 49TH AVENUE
