Srtrc Hall of Fame Ceremony Downing Street 12Th May 2008

Introduction Ged Grebby UK Project Co-ordinator

The 2007-8 season was officially the most successful season in the history of our campaign with more posters produced, events at clubs and community education work than ever before. We are now working on our Annual Review for this period, which we hope to have finished for July 2008. This newsletter can only give a flavour of the work we have carried out since our last newsletter in and Robbie Earle presented the December. We managed to a brilliant season for our Hall of Fame Ceremony. anti-racist campaign with a fantastic event at 10 Downing Street with our patrons, supporters and sponsors. Work is progressing well on our four new films: 1. A film in conjunction with Fifpro the international players’ union called “Racism and the Beautiful game”. This DVD will be used by players’ unions around the world to promote ideas on how football can combat racism. 2. A film and education pack to combat the growth of Islamophobia in society. 3. An updated version of our DVD. 4. A new Scottish Show Racism the Red Card DVD. The aim is to have all four films finished and ready to launch for the beginning of the new season in August. We have interviewed the following players and ex- players: , Lillian Thuram, Samuel Eto’o, , , , Brian McClair, Gordon Taylor, , , Leroy and Fabulous Flournoy were Rosenior, Freddie Eastwood, Jermaine Easter, , amongst the guests at 10 Downing Street. , , , , , , , , , , , , David Nugent, Matthew Taylor, Noe Pamarot, Benjani Mwaruwari, , John Beresford, , , , Nyron Nosworthy, , , , , , Gary Bennett, Brendon Batson, Paul Davis, Paul Canoville, , Hughton, Stephen McManus, , Jean Claude Darcheville, , Garth Crooks, , , , , Al Bangura, , Jason Roberts, , Sol Campbell, , , and Kolo Toure. Avram Grant and of Chelsea FC came to show their support. As you can see we have had an excellent response from footballers, football clubs and managers and the prospect of having all these new resources available to us with education packs by September 2008 means this is going to be a very exciting year for our organisation. My thanks go to all our staff, volunteers, management committee and patrons who have worked so hard to make this season such a successful one for our campaign. Campaign in WALES Sunil Patel Welsh Campaign Co-ordinator

Since the last newsletter, we have continued to promote our work throughout Wales and our campaign has attracted support from up and down the country.

The last few months saw us deliver our first ever football club workshops with Swansea City and Welsh side Welshpool FC. Both the workshops were held at local schools and saw first team players sharing their views and experiences of racism with young people. We have had a tremendous response from the football clubs in Wales and we will look to broaden our events by holding workshops with Rugby clubs in Wales next season. The campaign has taken on a new Information and Support worker for Wales to assist in developing the work in Wales. Jason Webber has been working for the Football in the Community department at Merthyr Tydfil FC for the past few seasons, he is currently working towards Level 3 (B Licence) UEFA coaching award and will assist us towards increasing physical activity as well as adopting new ways of delivering our anti-racism Leroy Rosenior visits Barry Comprehensive school to spread workshops. Another successful schools competition saw a record number of schools participating from Wales. Once again great prizes were provided by the Football clubs and the FAW.
