To experience the various cultures and explore the natural environment in east Taiwan, we invite students from all over the world to participate in our well-designed summer program. The English-taught courses focusing on the culture and features of Taiwan are given by experienced professors of NDHU to guarantee the quality of the courses. Besides of experiencing Taiwan, students could also exchange their own cultures with other participants to learn more about the world, as the summer program is open for the whole world. The Summer Program of Taiwan’s Cultural Trip provides you with a great opportunity to experience different cultures and cultivate your ability in cultural studies. We provide cultural courses in various topics, including history, economy, social studies, indigenous studies, political development, and the unique religious culture in Taiwan. We also arrange interesting outdoor activities and day tours for students to reach the attractive natural environment. We hope students could have a fun and fruitful summer after the experience in the east Taiwan at NDHU. Underlying the casual atmosphere and the natural beauty of the National Dong Hwa University campus is a fundamental earnestness and dedication to the ideals of academic excellence and creativity. National Dong Hwa University 2018 Summer Program : Taiwan’s Cultural Trip Course Content Culture Courses: ● Social Studies on Local Customs ● Social and Economic History of Taiwan ● Indigenous Studies on Ethnics of Taiwan ● Modern Art in Taiwan ● Political Development of Taiwan ● Religious Culture in Taiwan. (All are taught by professors of NDHU) Outdoor Activity PE Classes: ● Kayaking ● Climbing ● Orienteering in NDHU campus Excursion to local attractions: ● Taroko National Park ● Eco-Tour in Hualien (Whale Watching, Butterfl y Viewing) ● Culture Experiencing of Characteristic Ethnic-The Hakka Craft. Local tour information are provided upon request: Taiwan is a beautiful island with lots of tourist attractions and convenient travel transportations, we will provide local tour information such as Day Trip to Yilan and Taitung. You can explore Taiwan by your own after the Summer Program. Taroko National Park Kayaking National Dong Hwa University 2018 Summer Program : Taiwan’s Cultural Trip Curriculum Schedule: NDHU reserves the rights to change or modify the course schedule. National Dong Hwa University 2018 Summer Program : Taiwan’s Cultural Trip Program Information 1. Eligibility: Fluent English speakers at least 18 years of age. 2. Duration: The program runs from July 31 to August 11, 2018. 3. Location: National Dong Hwa University (1, Sec. 2, Da Hsueh Rd., Shoufeng, Hualien 97401, Taiwan.) 4. Class Size: The class consists of 30 students. (starts with a minimum of 15 students) Program Fee and Content 1. Tuition Fee: $1000 USD. (Early Bird: 850 USD) The tuition fee covers 9 hours of outdoor activity classes, 20 hours of cultural excursion,18 hours of Taiwan’s culture course, welcome reception and farewell reception, 11 nights of accommodations, 24 meals(including every breakfast,most of the lunch and supper), and pick up service at Taipei Main Station to NDHU. This park features high mountains and sheer gorges. Many of its peaks tower above 3,000m in elevation, with many natural wonders. The spectacular Taroko Gorge and the scenic beauty of Liwu River can be conveniently viewed from the Central Cross- Island Highway. The varied mountain peaks, numerous waterfalls, diverse plant forms and animal life, together with the indigenous Taroko people, create the rich texture of this unique natural ecosystem. Eco-Tour in Hualien (8 hours): People who are interested in whale-watching at Hualien Harbor can go all the way from Cingshui Cliff up north to Yanliao down south; Expert tour guides on the whale-watching boat will take you through the landscapes and historical legends of Hualien, as well as the biological resources and cetaceans of this land. Whale-watching National Dong Hwa University 2018 Summer Program : Taiwan’s Cultural Trip Hakka Craft Experience Hakka Craft Experience Hakka Craft Experience (4 hours): The Hakka crafts are a well-preserved traditional skill created by the early Hakka people. To experience to diverse cultural aspect of Taiwanese culture, we will take you to the Hakka Style workshop where participants could learn Hakka dyed cloth and experience Lai Cha DIY. Making your own crafts and homestay-like experience are rather fun and interesting. National Dong Hwa University 2018 Summer Program : Taiwan’s Cultural Trip Student Service Welcome Services: Warm greetings and pickup service (from Taipei Main Station) is organized by the Offi ce of International Affairs of NDHU. Offi cers of OIA and local students of NDHU will guide the participants from Taipei to NDHU. Additional information on the surroundings and campus maps will be provided upon arrival. Welcome and farewell receptions are arranged in the fi rst and the last day of the program to provide students the opportunities to know each other. Meals: The tuition fee includes most of the meals during the program. Well-cooked and special Taiwanese dishes will be served. As for the meal on the own, students are recommended to go to Chi-Shue road (ten-minute bike distance), which is a good district to seek both local and foreign food style. Accommodations: Participants will stay in the residence nearby the NDHU campus. Free-standing air-condition, shower room facilities, and single bed in twin or triple room are provided. We also provide bikes for students. Participants could cycle around to explore the campus by your own. Basketball court, baseball fi eld, tennis courts, etc are also open for students.
