This revision entails (1) the correction of a num- ber of forms, and the elimination of others, on the basis of criticism by specialists in various Amerind languages; (2) the consolidation of certain Amerind subgroup etymologies (given in Greenberg 1987) into Amerind etymologies; (3) the addition of many reconstructions from different levels of Amerind, based on a comprehensive database of all known reconstructions for Amerind subfamilies; and, finally, (4) the addition of a number of new Amerind etymologies presented here for the first time. RENÉ GUERY CHUQUIMIA ESCOBAR LA PAZ – BOLIVIA 2018 Resumen En la presente tesis titulada: Prácticas de las danzas autóctonas y su influencia en la formación de Identidad Cultural de los Estudiantes de la unidad educativa San Andrés de la Provincia Ingavi del departamento de La Paz: se observa la vida cotidiana de los actores sociales en etapa escolar. Asimismo, cabe mencionar que la práctica de las danzas autóctonas no solo se da en esta unidad educativa, sino en todos los colegios que rodean a San Andrés de Machaca, y se mantienen a través de la educación que reciben en estos centros, en el entorno familiar, la comunidad y otros factores influyentes. La educación que reciben en la unidad educativa también se ve a través de las prácticas de las danzas autóctonas, gracias a ellas se desarrollan sus destrezas y habilidades que son mostradas en concursos a nivel municipal y también a nivel departamental. A medida que pasan los años, los estudiantes van identificándose, día a día, como personas con identidad aymara, este fortalecimiento de la identidad se desarrolla en las unidades educativas, comunidades, festivales que se realizan a nivel municipal, departamental y nacional. Todos estos espacios hacen prevalecer sus usos y costumbres de acuerdo a sus antepasados. -

Sadoff 2015 Abstract Panama City is experiencing unprecedented urban development, particular in terms of elite real estate and finance, growth associated with the widening of the canal, and illicit activities such as money laundering. Not surprisingly, this hyper-growth is exacerbating environmental hazards whose costs are unevenly borne by residents. A case in point is the 2013 Cerro Patacón Landfill fire and subsequent air quality crisis. Cerro Patacón is a landfill just outside the city where regional waste is delivered and stored. In March 2013, a portion of the landfill caught on fire, releasing harmful toxins into the air for nearly two weeks. While sooty air engulfed the entire city, it was poor residents who experienced the greatest impacts of the fire in terms of respiratory and other health conditions. State response to the fire has not been to address the fundamental question of waste management or uneven exposure to waste-related hazards. Rather, the Panamanian government—with international support —is promoting a neoliberal response and emphasizing that when air quality in the city is poor, residents can ‘choose’ to modify their behaviors to avoid health risks. In my thesis, I use political ecology and social metabolism to conceptualize the city, waste, and development as interdependent and foundationally co-constituting. -

Museo Nacional de Etnografía y Folklore 159 Entre sonidos de bandas de bronce y Qina Qina (quena quena): dinámica musical y cultural en Tiwanaku Richard Mújica Angulo1 Resumen Esta investigación parte de un enfoque antropológico aplicado al fenómeno musical, donde la transformación cultural tiene un rol central. Un fenómeno contingente motivó este estudio: una banda de música fue incluida en un conjunto musical de Qina Qina, durante la celebración de la fiesta de San Pedro y San Pablo de la localidad aymara de Tiwanaku. Tal evento generó transformaciones en la práctica, representación y producción musical local. Entonces en este texto trabajaré con la siguiente interrogante: ¿cómo se generaron las dinámicas musicales y culturales referidas a la presencia de la banda de música en el Qina Qina de Tiwanaku? Esta presencia visibiliza múltiples procesos de significado, comportamiento y productos sonoros de los grupos e identidades que interpretan esta música-danza-canto. Asimismo, estos procesos son consecuencia de transformaciones en las formas de vida de las actuales comunidades. Así, la presencia de la banda de bronce plantea una constante tensión y lucha de visiones y sentidos del pasado y el presente, donde las identidades tiwanakeñas tienen un rol fundamental.
