Hero Headquarters

First United Methodist Church, in conjunction with Bright Beginnings Christian Preschool, is excited to offer summer camps to help enrich and expand a child’s summer experience. WHAT WE OFFER: Half Day Camps: Our half day camps are offered throughout the summer from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. for children aged 3 yrs.–5th grade. Children will begin in a large group setting where they will hear the bible verse, sing silly songs and focus on HERO traits. Afterwards we will separate into age appropriate groups and travel through art, games, cooking and science stations that help us to get up close and personal with the weekly theme. Half Day Camps for children ages 3-11 years old (9am-12pm) $87/week

Full Day Camps: Our full day camps are offered throughout the summer from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. for children entering K–6th grade. During the morning children will participate in half day camps. Afternoons will consist of field trips, special visitors, in depth projects and more! Parents provide a packed lunch daily. Full Day Camps* for children entering Kindergarten-6th grade (9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.) $155/week* (5 days), $140/week* (4 days), $126/week* (3 days), $95/week* (2 days) *plus possible field trip fee

Extended Day: Our extended day option allows children who need care before /after regular camp times to come in between 6:30– 9:00 a.m. and to stay as late as 6:30 p.m. Extended Day Camps* for children entering Kindergarten-6th grade (6:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.) $181/week* (5 days), $163/week* (4 days), $144/week* (3 days), $106/week* (2 days) *plus possible field trip fee

Note: Snacks will be provided during camps. Children participating in Full Day or Extended Day camps will need a packed lunch each day.

Here is the link: https://brightbeginnings.campbrainregistration.com/Home/Landing Read on for camp descriptions and dates HERO HEADQUARTERS CAMP DESCRIPTIONS AND DATES SUPERHERO TRAINING ACADEMY: (June 5-9) It’s training time! may have had his Super-Soldier Serum but we are ready to put in the work to build our super hero powers. First, we will research and taste a variety of nutrient rich foods to create our own Super- Soldier Serum. Once we are fueled up and ready to go, it is time to test our reflexes, build our strength and sharpen our “Spidey – Senses” on our hero style agility course. Whether campers are looking to join the or be the newest addition to The Avengers, this week is sure to get them ready. Tentative Field Trips: Ohio Sports Academy/Get Air, Farmer’s Market HOMETOWN HEROES: (June 12-16) “Faster than a speeding bullet. More powerful than a locomotive”…. In movies and comic books, was always there to save the day. Take a look at our community and you will find that Supermen and Superwomen are all around. Every day our hometown heroes work to keep us happy, healthy and safe. Join us this week as we explore what it takes to be a firefighter, police officer, doctor, military personnel, and more. Try your hand at a military style training course, solve crimes like real detectives, create an old- fashioned bucket brigade, and much, much more! Tentative Field Trips: Firehouse, Police Station COMIC CON: (June 19-23) What does it take to be a superhero? This week we will study our heroes and what makes them super. We will train in the art of superheroes and learn how to lasso the enemy like or wield a hammer like Thor. We will study the laws of physics with Peter Parker and Bruce Banner, construct our own supersuit like Ironman or control a tornado with Storm. Whomever your favorite super hero many be, you can be sure that we will explore all that they have to offer. Tentative Field Trips: Skyzone, Oak Grove Park Archery Range ANIMAL ALLIES: (June 26-30) Just like dolphins, uses sonar to listen over long distances. Antman and Wasp both have abilities based on animal-like traits, but animals have hero-like powers of their own. A single elephant has been known to lift over 600 pounds! A peregrine falcon can fly at speeds close to 300mph. Rescue dogs are trained to run towards the danger to help find people trapped in a collapsed building or under an avalanche! This week, be prepared to run like a , work like a Clydesdale, camouflage like a chameleon, and fly like a condor as we set off to explore the amazing animal allies all around us. Tentative Field Trips: SISCA, Cincinnati Zoo POWER PLANT: (July 10-14) Poison Ivy is able to control plant life to do as she pleases, and could use plant matter to build a new body for himself, but there are so many amazing plants that are heroes in their own right. Without plants, we would not be able to survive. Plants provide the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the shelter we live in, and some even have healing properties. Get ready to observe the lightning quick reflexes of the Venus flytrap, soar high with the towering red wood forest, and journey to the rainforest where over a quarter of all natural medicines can be found. Get ready to get dirty as we dig-in to grow, dissect, and manipulate plants to our will. Tentative Field Trips: Wegerzyn Gardens, Krohn Conservatory

S.T.E.A.M TEAM: (July 17-21) What would and Ironman be without their inventions? Just like Thor, we will travel through time to study the S.T.E.A.M. Team heroes of our past. Take a walk on the moon with Neil Armstrong, fly with the Wright Brothers. Channel your inner and shed light over evil with the inventions of Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison. Learn more about the original member of the S.T.E.A.M Team, Leonardo Da Vinci and the contributions he made to music, art, astronomy, and engineering. Tentative Field Trips: National Museum of the United States Air Force, Carillon Historical Park

HERO CENTRAL: (July 24-28) This week we take kids on awesome adventures alongside some of their favorite Bible heroes and discover the qualities that make us truly heroic in God. VBS Hero Central uses epic music, spectacular science, crafty crafts, heroic recreation, and fantastic Bible stories to help kids discover their strength in God! Full and extended day campers will expand on the fun throughout the day. Tentative Field Trips: Wilson Park Pool, Patricia Allen Park *Tuition for HERO CENTRAL VBS! week is $100* for Full Day and $126* for Extended Day. In lieu of our half-day camp this week we have our morning VBS. Separate registration is required and will be available in May.

GOOD VS. EVIL: (July 31- August 4) No comic book superhero would be complete without an archenemy. The X-Men fought everyday against The Mutants to protect the rights of everyday humans. Just like The Incredible Hulk, each one of us has good and evil inside of us. This week we will explore activists who work tirelessly every day to make the world a better place as we engage our own gifts and talents to share. Then we will strap up our superhero boots and go out into our own community to do some good of our own. Tentative Field Trips: Hillspring Nursing Home, National Underground Railroad Freedom Center
