We look forward to hearing all about their exploits, and the challenges they have experienced next week. Camp photos sent through to us on Wednesday 6th April by Lisa Duff. End Term One: School will finish for the term one school holidays on Friday 15 April and will re-open for term two on Monday 2 May. School News: New Pupils: Welcome to Lily and Jake (New Entrants) who started school last week and to Paris (Rm 7), Kayleigh (Rm 3) and Maxwell (New Entrants) who started this week. E Awards: The recent focus was Excellence – “Demonstrating a positive attitude in the playground”. Maori proverb (whakautauki) “Haere taka mua, taka muri; kaua e whai” – “Be a leader not a follower”. The current focus is Excellence – “Start learning tasks quickly and independently” Full School Assembly: The full school assembly will be held next Friday 15th April when pupils will be presented with their awards. The names of the pupils receiving awards will be in next week’s newsletter. Health & Safety Message - School Gates: It is imperative that all school gates remain closed immediately after you have walked through them. We have children at the school who need to be kept secure and their safety is paramount. Signage has been erected and this must be followed please. Bark Spreading in New Adventure Playground – Monday 11 April: We would like all children to bring buckets to school on Monday so they can help spread the bark in the new playground. If parents are able to bring in the shovels, rakes (named) for their child to use at school this would be much appreciated (parent to please hand to their child’s class teacher for safe storage). NB: Children are not able to bring shovels, rakes, tools on the school bus. Annual Polar Plunge – Friday 15 April (last day term one): The Polar Plunge is our traditional end of season swim at school. As the water temperature beyond term one is an unknown at this stage, the polar plunge will take place at the end of this term. Times are: 1. Rooms NE,1 & 2 – 9.40 am (will follow the school assembly) 2. Rooms 3/4 - 9.50 am 3. Rooms 5/6 – 10.00 am 4. Rooms 7/8 – 10.15 am At the conclusion of the polar plunge, the children are then treated to a warm mug of Milo and a chocolate pineapple lump. NB: Children will need to bring a mug to school. Parents and caregivers are welcome to come along and watch the event. We would welcome buckets or containers of ice to be delivered to school on this morning so that the pool temperature can be made as “polar” as possible. Please let your child’s class teacher know if you do not wish them to have the Milo or chocolate. Closing Date for West Eyreton School / Community Pool: The pool will close for this season for school families & community members on Sunday 1 May (end term one school holidays). Duathlon - 9 - 12 year olds ONLY: On Thursday 10th May at Ruapuna Raceway there will be a Canterbury Schools Duathlon. If you are 9 years or over as at 1st April then you have a chance of entering. We are allowed to enter up to 4 students per age group - entries will be taken on a first come first served basis. • 9 and 10 year olds run 2km bike 6km run 1km • 11 and 12 year olds run 2km bike 9km run 1km If you wish to enter your child, please be prepared to either help run the event or be a parent helper for the West Eyreton School team. West Eyreton School House for Rent: The West Eyreton School house has three bedrooms, has recently been repainted throughout the interior and has a new oven & new drapes in the dining room & lounge. Weekly rental is $325.00. Please enquire to Principal at the school office 03 312 5850. S.K.I.D.S – After School Care Programme at West Eyreton School: There is an after school care programme (SKIDS) held in the school hall for West Eyreton school pupils. SKIDS stands for ‘Safe Kids in Daily Supervision’ and is an approved school age, child care programme that runs from 3.00 – 6.00 pm on Mondays – Fridays in the school hall during term time. Permanent & casual bookings are available – information pamphlets & booking details can be obtained from the school office. School Office News: ANZAC Poppies: The school has been asked again by the Cust/West Eyreton RSA members to help with the selling of their poppies for 2016. Families had been sent home an envelope with information and poppies. If you would like to donate towards their Welfare Fund, please send the money along to the school office by next Friday 15th April (last week of Term 1). A member of the Cust/West Eyreton RSA will then call into the school at the beginning of Term 2 to collect the donations. School Accounts: Term 1 accounts were emailed to parents two weeks ago. We would appreciate payment of these accounts before the end of Term 1 Friday 15th April. PTA News: Thanks to everyone who attended our AGM on Sunday. We are pleased to announce the following election results: Chairman: Nic Kelly Secretary: Rebecca Henderson Treasurer: Julia Dockerill Committee Members: Jocelyn Austen, Cassandra Kelly, Mark Henderson, Kerryn Duncan, Tim Fulton, Julia Toshach and Jonathan Branton-Casey. We are excited to say we raised at total of $13,850.30 for the year 1.1.15 to 31.12.15 and would like to take this chance to thank everyone for their huge efforts to raise that amount. These funds came from Coast to Coast Support Crewing, Movie Day, Art & Wine Night, Entertainment Books, Pet Day and the Fete. From that amount we are pleased to have provided the school with $3,900.00 towards iPad payments and $700.00 worth of equipment for the pool. Since the beginning of the year we have again been involved with the Coast to Coast and received $668.36 from The Warehouse token promotion. The Board of Trustees and the School have asked that we focus all our attention on raising funds for the science trolley and we are thrilled to say we have $3,000.00 towards this and we will make it our focus for this coming year. Our next upcoming event is the Community Morning Tea at the West Eyreton Hall on Anzac Day. We will be looking for some donations of baking and if anyone is keen please let Julia know on 310-2183 or by email on [email protected]. Did you know that the PTA has a "baking group"? Our baking group is a collection of fabulous volunteers set up to help families we hear of that might be in need of some baking or meals during the course of the year. If you are keen to be involved please just let Julia know. Remember to check out our Facebook page West Eyreton Parent Teacher Association Incorporated for regular updates. West Eyreton School PTA Fundraiser: The Entertainment Book is one of our favourite fundraisers at West Eyreton School PTA. Last year we raised $533.00. This year we want to do even better. We are raising money for our fundraising and our goal is $598. The books sell for $65.00, and we keep $13.00 for every one we sell. The Entertainment Book gives you access to thousands of up to 50% off and 2-for-1 offers for Christchurch, Canterbury and Nelson’s best restaurants, cafes, attractions and the theme parks. Plus it has best in market prices for over 2,000 hotels and resorts that you can use whenever you like until 1st June 2017. Oxford Netball Club 2016 - Primary Trials – Years 5 – 8: Registration (no payment required) and Trials. 3.30 – 5pm approx. depending on how many players. Years 7 – 8 (7 side games played on Saturday). Years 5 – 6 (6 side games played on Saturday at either 2p.m. or 3p.m.). We enable economic, social and cultural activities within the region through the facilitation of an energy supply that is safe, reliable, economically efficient and drives sustainable outcomes - creating a vibrant and prosperous region by connecting people and places and delivering value to our shareholders. MainPower is committed to contributing towards a bright future for our region by delivering an electricity network that’s ready for the future. Within the last reporting period, MainPower completed a strategic review of its business. A key outcome of this review included the development of a vision statement that reflects our strategic intent and demonstrates a clear link between the direction of our business, our business goals and our asset management practices. Our vision statement: “Partnering in our customers’ energy future” The intention for the Asset Management Plan is to deliver a document that is clear and easy to read by a wide audience. It provides the context to our approach to asset management, which is aligned with our business objectives. This plan ensures network performance, improves on our customer experience, and works towards creating a network for the future, whilst balancing the needs of our customers, community and other stakeholders.
