That collaboration saved Sal Buscaglia’s life. Sal remained in a coma for six days while on the ECMO in Mercy’s cardiovascular intensive care unit. As his health improved, Sal transitioned to the specialized cardiac floor and then to the Medical Rehab Unit at Mercy. Donor Spotlight Road to Recovery A collaborative effort at Mercy Hospital accelerated healing for Scott Bieler and shone a light on the medical team’s core value of reverence for every life. When friends tell Scott Bieler he is a walking miracle, he says it’s Annette Smith. “They all worked together because his dream team at Mercy Hospital was made up of some to give me my life back,” Scott says. of the hardest working angels he ever met.
