Members, I have to inform the House of the sad demise of Shri Resham Lal Jangde. Shri Jangde died on 11 August, 2014 in Raipur, Chhattisgarh at the age of 89. He was a member of the First, Second and Ninth Lok Sabhas representing the Bilaspur Parliamentary Constituency of Madhya Pradesh, now in Chhattisgarh. An able parliamentarian, Shri Jangde served as a member of various Parliamentary Committees. Shri Jangde was a member of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly for three terms from 1962 to 1967, 1972 to 1977 and from 1985 to 1989. He also served as Deputy Minister in the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 1963. An active social and political worker, Shri Jangde participated in freedom movement. He worked relentlessly for social harmony and eradication of the dowry system. We deeply mourn the loss of Shri Resham Lal Jangde and convey our condolences to the bereaved family. The Members then stood in silence for a short while. ELECTION OF DEPUTY SPEAKER THE MINISTER OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI RAJNATH SINGH) moved that Dr. M. Thambidurai , a member of this House, be chosen as the Deputy Speaker of this House. The present enquiry extends this to examine their activities, effectiveness, role perceptions, and attitudes particularly in relation to national issues. NOTIFICATION WHEREAS, the Election Commission of India has decided to update its Notification No. 56/2009/PPS-II, dated 14th March, 2009, specifying the names of recognised National and State Parties, registered-unrecognised parties and the list of free symbols, issued in pursuance of paragraph 17 of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968; NOW, THEREFORE, in pursuance of paragraph 17 of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968, and in supersession of its aforesaid notification No. 56/2009/PPS-II, dated 14th March, 2009, published in the Gazette of India, Extra-Ordinary, Part- II, Section-3, Sub-Section (iii), the Election Commission of India hereby specifies: - (a) In Table I, the National Parties and the Symbols respectively reserved for them and postal address of their Headquarters; (b) In Table II, the State Parties, the State or States in which they are State Parties and the Symbols respectively reserved for them in such State or States and postal address of their Headquarters; (c) In Table III, the registered-unrecognized political parties and postal address of their Headquarters; and (d) In Table IV, the free symbols.     Modi 2.0 Heralds a New Era in Indian Politics Dr Ashutosh Misra Within a span of one week two astonishing electoral victories have dominated the world’s media headlines. Scott Morrison led ‘miraculous’ Liberal National Party coalition victory in Australia, and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janta Party’s landslide victory beating the 2014 record, securing 303 seats in the lower house. Both leaders stand re- elected for another term which will ensure bilateral policy, business and trade continuum. Modi’s massive sweep has obliterated the Indian National Congress—the key national opposition party—which was limited to 52 seats (8 better than 2014) but failed to secure a single seat in 17 states and union territories. The BJP for the first time replaced the INC and the Left parties in Orissa, West Bengal and Assam, as the main opposition party. From winning just two seats in the 1984 elections to securing 303 seats, 28 more than the majority, and 18 more than in 2014, and 350 overall with its National Democratic Alliance partners, the BJP has rendered the political pundits gobsmacked. The success can be attributed to Modi’s incorruptible political career, towering international stature, simple lifestyle and personal drive to work 15-18 hours a day, which has won wide respect from the people. In the popular narrative, people say, Modi was contesting at all 542 seats, as people largely voted for him, and not the local candidate. This victory has been underpinned by multiple factors and also heralded new trends in the Indian politics.

Rajpurohit*, Amandeep Kaur** * Dean, Faculty of Law, Jagannath University Jaipur **Research Scholar, Jagannath University, Jaipur ABSTRACT Cash for votes, Personality cult, opportunism, and nepotism and caste system has very much rooted in the political structure of the Southern as well as northern part of India. All these factors determine the political scenario in the southern and northern states at the time of elections. There are many similarities in both the parts and there are many differences which makes them distinct from each other. This paper is an effort to understand the differences and similarities in the politics of the southern and northern states of India. KEYWORDS: Politics, Vote Bank, Caste, Personality Cult, Nepotism, Opportunism, Election, Political Parties, INTRODUCTION The Northern India and the Southern India have a multi party system, where there are numbers of regional parties who play an important role during the elections. In North India, the regional parties like Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Shiromani Akali Dal, Indian National Lokdal, Haryana Janhit Congress and several others had played and is still playing an important role in the state politics as well as in the national politics. Whereas in the South India, parties like Telgu Desham Party, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIDMK) Dravida Munnetra Kazhgam (DMK), The United Democratic Front (UDF) led by the Indian National Congress and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) led by the Communist Party of India are in the mainstream politics.
