Paul Andrews * | Melvin Mark Companies, Portland

Paul M. Andrews was born and raised in . He works for Melvin Mark Companies, one of the largest independent commercial real estate companies in Portland, founded in 1945. Paul is continuing in the tradition at Melvin Mark of being deeply engaged in the civic fabric of Portland and the State of Oregon. After graduating magna cum laude from Santa Clara University, Paul spent three months at the National Outdoor Leadership School in Wyoming, where he learned to lead mountaineering, rock climbing, and canoeing expeditions. He recently returned to Oregon from San Francisco where he worked for Boston Properties, a renowned publicly-traded real estate investment trust. Paul is an active young community leader involved in a broad range of local causes.

Bobbie Conner * | Tamástslikt Cultural Institute, Pendleton

Bobbie Conner is the director of Tamástslikt (Tah-mahst-slickt) Cultural Institute, the 45,000 square foot tribally-owned museum on the Umatilla Reservation near Pendleton, Oregon. The Institute has three goals: to accurately present the Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla peoples history; to perpetuate knowledge of their history and culture; and to contribute to the tribal economy. Bobbie is Cayuse, Umatilla, and Nez Perce, and is enrolled at the Confederated Tribes of Umatilla. As a graduate of Pendleton High School, the University of Oregon, and Willamette University’s Atkinson Graduate School of Management, Bobbie is a second- generation advanced degree holder following her mother, Leah. She is the Vice Chair of University’s inaugural board of trustees and serves on the Tribes’ Land Acquisition Committee. She served on the Board of Trustees for the National Museum of the American Indian from 2008 to 2014 and chaired the board from 2012 to 2013. She also served on the board of directors for the American Alliance of Museums from 2008 to 2014.

Serena Cruz * | Virginia Garcia Memorial Foundation, Portland

Serena Cruz is the Executive Director of the Virginia Garcia Memorial Foundation where she oversees fundraising, public relations, and community partnerships in support of the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center. a county commissioner for eight years. She currently serves on the boards of Chalkboard Project and NOW Oregon chapter. She earned her BA at Lewis & Clark College, her MPP at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, and her JD at the University of California at Berkeley. Serena was born in Seattle, raised in Eugene, and now lives in Northeast Portland.

Frank Grady | Grady Britton, Portland

As a long term Portland resident and the founder of Grady Britton, Frank has worked with local, regional, and national companies and non-profit entities in establishing marketing strategy, brand positioning, and outreach through multiple media channels. The agency, a “B” corporation, has been providing annual grants to non- profits in Oregon for many years. Grady Britton recently celebrated its 45th anniversary. Now retired, Frank continues to serve on boards and committees that benefit local non-profits and our community. Frank has experience in working with homeless and marginalized populations, education, the arts, and professional business associations. Boards and council leadership participation have included: The Salvation Army (over 30 years); The Oregon Symphony; The Community Warehouse; American Association of Advertising Agencies, NW Council; and Portland Society of Advertising Agencies, past president.

Scott Howard * | Kivel & Howard LLP, Portland

Scott Howard and his wife, Lucy Kivel, are the founding members of Kivel & Howard LLP, a Portland-based law firm. He works primarily in the areas of business planning and transactions, succession planning, estate planning, and charitable planning. Scott has served on the board of directors of the Oregon Symphony Association, the Oregon Ballet Theater, and the Multnomah Athletic Club. Recently Scott finished a four-year assignment with the Portland’5 Centers for the Arts, chairing its advisory committee and developing its strategic plan. Scott counts among his most meaningful successes the establishment of Park Academy, a school serving dyslexic children on the campus of Marylhurst University. Scott earned his B.S. in psychology and political science from Occidental College before earning his Juris Doctorate at the McCulloch School of Law at Whittier College. Scott and Lucy enjoy the company of their two adult children.

Marilyn Loy * | Direct Derm, Portland

Marilyn Loy is the Vice President of Business Development of Direct Derm, a leading provider of Teledermatology. In her non-profit pursuits, she currently serves on the River View Cemetery Board, Wells Fargo of Oregon Community Board, Cascade Pacific Council Boys Scouts of America, Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon Community Board, and the Oregon Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association Scholarship Committee. Utilizing her undergraduate degree in biology, Marilyn has a strong interest in finding solutions that will help promote wellness, healthier lifestyles, environmental conservation, and global sustainability. She also continues her father’s legacy as an organizer of a business group called The International Breakfast Club whose membership includes an older generation of the most respected leaders and business entrepreneurs in the Oregon community.

Judge Judith Matarazzo | Multnomah County Circuit Court, Portland

Judge Judith Matarazzo was elected to the Circuit Court in 2006. Prior to serving as a judge she was in private practice in Portland, Oregon, specializing in the area of personal injury and medical malpractice. She also served frequently as a mediator and arbitrator. Judge Matarazzo served on the Oregon State Bar Disciplinary Board, Oregon Trial Lawyers Board of Directors as well as the Oregon Law Institute Board of Directors. Judith is active in the community and has sat on the board of the following organizations: Oregon Society of Artists; Child Care Aware of America; Colonial Dames of America, Oregon Chapter; American Heart Association, Gala Chair; Bosco-Milligan Foundation, Auction Chair; Salvation Army Capital Campaign Cabinet; Trinity Episcopal Cathedral; Oregon Law Institute, Lewis and Clark; Oregon Trial Lawyers Association Board; and Triangle Lake Camp and Conference Center. Nathan McKinstry is a technology leader with 20 years of experience in financial services, employee benefits, pharmaceutical, and energy industries. He has led IT strategic investment and transformed delivery organizations. As a strategist, he has driven high value business outcomes through technology. As a consultant, he has delivered emerging technologies to clients in the Americas, Europe and Asia. Nathan and his family are active in education and athletics in their community.

Charu Nair | Keys 2 DEI Consulting, Portland

Charu Manchanda Nair brings over three decades of insights and experience across sectors, industries, and countries to her work. Whether teaching original curricula on contextual cultural history in humanities at Marylhurst University for a decade, providing leadership in strategy and diversity initiatives to the Fortune 500, launching the World Trade Center Portland with the executive team and leading a trade mission, or launching the first laptop in India, she demonstrates her deep understanding and passion for humanity at its core. Her impact contributions include the boards of the Urban League, United Nations, and Fulbright, and as Commissioner of Human Rights, Multnomah County, and Civil Rights, Bureau of Labor and Industries. Recently she curated a highly lauded five city equity summit. With three degrees spanning three countries and travels to seventy more, Ms. Nair brings a truly unique lens informed by her significant local expertise bridged with her wide-ranging worldwide acumen.

Darren Nakata | NW Natural, Portland

Darren is a proud third-generation Oregonian and has an abiding passion for Oregon and its history. Since he did not attend college in Oregon, he still steadfastly cheers for both the Ducks and the Beavers (when they’re not competing against the Cardinal). Darren has served on many local non-profit boards and currently serves as a director of OnPoint Community Credit Union and as a trustee of the Portland Japanese Garden. He is a two-time graduate of Stanford University and also a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. NW Natural is one of Oregon’s original companies, actually pre-dating Oregon’s statehood; among other things, Darren enjoys currently co-leading the growth and development of NW Natural Water. He also enjoys moonlighting at the University of Oregon School of Law, where he has taught “Negotiations”. He lives in Portland with his wife, daughter, and two dogs, and enjoys cooking with a wok, smoking meats in his Traeger, and baking bread.

Justice Adrienne Nelson | Oregon Supreme Court, Salem

Justice Adrienne Nelson was appointed to the Oregon Supreme Court on January 2, 2018, making her the first African American to sit on the state’s highest court and on any appellate state court. Her election to a six-year term in November 2018 made her the first African American woman elected statewide in Oregon. In 2006, she was appointed as a trial judge on the Multnomah County Circuit Court in Portland, Oregon, making her the second African American female judge in the state of Oregon. Justice Nelson is a sought-after speaker on a variety of topics including diversity, inclusion, equity, community engagement, leadership and professional development. Throughout her career, Justice Nelson has been involved in many national, state, local, and specialty bar associations, often serving in a leadership capacity. In the Portland community, she sits on the Literary Arts Board, the Reed College Board of Trustees, and the Oregon Community Foundation Portland Leadership Council, where she chairs the Connection to the Black Communities committee. She also sits on the Girl Scouts Beyond the Bars (GSBB) Advisory Board and the Self-Enhancement, Inc. (SEI) Board of Directors both of which she formerly chaired. In addition, Justice Nelson serves as a mentor to many people. She is often recognized by a wide variety of community and professional organizations for her service and mentorship to others. Justice Nelson is a connector and encourager, helping people succeed by living their best lives.

Janet Pardo | Community Volunteer, Portland

Since 1980, Janet Pardo has made Oregon her home. A retired teacher, Janet has lived in many corners of Oregon: Portland, Springfield, Pendleton, Lake Oswego, Fairview, and Gresham. A graduate of PSU, Janet has fond memories of her 20 years in the classroom. She worked with students whose families had immigrated from Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia to make their futures in Oregon. esteem and belonging, emphasize cooperation, and to encourage academic curiosity and civics. These attributes help young students develop into future Oregonians. Janet was born in The Bronx, NYC, NY, and grew up in an Air Force family. Due to her father’s Air Force assignments, the family moved to many locations, including New York, , Texas, Hawaii, South Carolina, Puerto Rico, and Japan. An active volunteer during her years in Oregon, she has donated time to a variety of causes, including: Catholic Family Services’ Programa Hispano, Holt International adoption agency, Pendleton AAUW, Chess for Success, Oregon League of Minority Voters, Soulful Giving, the Kinship House and others. Her love of Oregon includes the many geographical areas of the state: The Steens, Ashland, the Wallowas and the entirety of the from Brookings to Astoria. Among favorite hiking trails are the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness, the Three Sisters, Mount Hood, Oswald West, and the Wallowas. Beyond her personal involvement with Oregon non-profits, Janet also has joined with her husband, Mark Garber, in supporting a variety of non-profits throughout Oregon, including in recent years the Mt. Hood Community College Foundation, Portland Community College Foundation, and the Portland Home Builders Foundation (which aids shelter projects for the houseless). Her husband, Mark, is president of the Pamplin Media Group and their daughter, Marie, works in the IT field and lives in Happy Valley. A Multnomah County resident, Janet especially appreciates the generosity of local voters who have made it possible for all county residents to have free access to the resources of the Oregon Historical Society.

Julieann Park | Community Volunteer, Portland

Julieann Park was raised in Seoul, South Korea, and received her Bachelor of Science from Ewha Woman’s University. She moved to Portland in 1996 with her husband and first son. She has served many local charities and organizations including Providence Cancer Research Institute, Patricia Reser Center for the Arts, and Lines for Life. Although she couldn’t have predicted moving across the world, she has grown to love Oregon and become a committed member of the community. Raising her children and connecting with local causes and people over the past twenty-five years have truly made Oregon her home.

Jim Parker * | UBS Financial Services, Portland

Jim Parker holds a degree in International Politics from Georgetown University and a masters in International Management from Thunderbird. Prior to moving to Portland in 1998, Jim spent ten years in the investment banking arm of Citicorp’s London and Tokyo offices where he helped European and Asian Central Banks manage their foreign exchange reserve portfolios. He is currently a financial advisor with UBS Financial Services where he helps business owners and local institutions manage their investments and financial affairs. He is a proud member of the Rotary Club of Portland, and in his free time enjoys skiing, scuba diving, and backpacking.

John Russell | Russell Development Company, Inc., Portland

Following his graduation from Harvard Business School, Russell returned to Portland as General Manager and, eventually, Partner of Melvin Mark Properties, which at the time was the largest owner of office space in Oregon. Russell was a partner in the re-development of two significant historic buildings and a new 250,000sf Class A office building, which opened at 100 percent occupancy with no pre- leasing. Russell sold out his interest in the Mark properties in 1979 to form his own company. Russell developed the 500,000sf Pacwest Center as headquarters for an Oregon-based bank. Russell selected Hugh Stubbins, the architect of Citicorp Center in New York City, to be the building’s architect. The building achieved a remarkable success in the marketplace, and in 1997 The Wall Street Journal named Pacwest Center one of the ten top towers in America. In late 1988, Russell purchased the 400,000sf 200 Market Building from Prudential Insurance Company. The building was completely abated of asbestos and returned to full occupancy by 1992. Its occupancy has averaged nearly 99 percent during Russell’s 25-year ownership. In 2006, the building became the first existing multi-tenanted building in America to receive a LEED rating for its environmental excellence. In 2010 the building received the Platinum (highest) LEED rating. Russell currently owns five historic buildings in the Skidmore/Old Town Historic District, including the oldest (1857) and second oldest (1859) commercial buildings in Portland.

Ivy Timpe * | Retired Director of HR, OHSU, Portland

Ivy Timpe is retired from a career in corporate human resources. She has served as Director of Human Resources for Boise Cascade, Corporate Secretary and Director of Human Resources for Standard Insurance, and Director of Human Resources for OHSU. Ivy is married to Ronald Timpe. She is a former Board Chair of the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross and currently volunteers at the Oregon Community Foundation and the Honolulu Zoo.

William Valach * | Retired Director of Financial Relations, Portland

William Valach served Portland General Electric (PGE) for twenty-five years in various positions including Financial Analyst, Director of Finance, Assistant Treasurer, and Director of Investor Relations. He completed his career with the company retiring 2016. Prior to serving PGE, he worked in banking. He holds a B.S. degree in business administration from the University of Montana, and an MBA in finance from the University of Oregon. William also serves on the board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Portland Metropolitan Area.

Erin Zollenkopf | Susan Matlack Jones & Associates, Portland

Erin Zollenkopf is the CEO of Susan Matlack Jones & Associates (SMJ), a firm that specializes in accounting and bookkeeping services for non-profit organizations in Oregon and Washington. SMJ has over 100 nonprofit clients and a staff of 16. Erin speaks and leads workshops in her field, including a workshop series through Regional Arts & Culture Council called DIY Accounting for Small Arts Nonprofits. Besides accounting, Erin enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children, playing piano and mandolin, and adventuring outdoors. Erin is a fourth generation Oregonian who grew up in NE Portland.
