The vocals are smooth and the flow is comfortable if that makes sense. You can picture yourself driving down the highway with this one on loud and nothing planned. We like it because it makes us feel good to see a story about success after years of hard work and patience finally paying off. Who doesn’t Summer want to believe the universe rewards us for being patient and never giving up? Favorite Crime Olivia Rodrigro Who doesn’t like Olivia Rodrigo right now? She seems to be the “it” artist, but this song we had to add for it’s actual value as a gift to the summer playlist. AGAIN with the love and heartbreak By: Vivian Vance themes, ammiright? Aside from the great lyrics and vocal range with her syncopation in the outro, but this is another artist that was putting her open soul out there for the listener and you have to We asked Twiggy to give us her favorite songs of this summer and tell us why she respect that. liked them. This is her list and this is why she thinks these will be the songs of Summer 2021! One More I Love You Alex Warren This one resonates with many of us right now dealing with loss after 2020, so this one seemed Hot Girl Summer by Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla Sign fitting. Alex Warren opens up in the lyrics about the loss of his father to cancer and the subsequent We’re keeping this from 2019, because we were robbed of a proper “Hot Girl life struggles that followed. You can dance to it easily and it made it’s way to our Summer sounds 2021 Playlist. Good 4 U Olivia Rodrigo Another O.R. on the list, but this one isn’t the broken dove of the previous song on our list. This is Heartbreak Anniversary by Giveon the own your power, “Anger” portion of the grief cycle, and she is running the gamut quite nicely. Summer means love and of course, heartbreak. We had to add at least one for the Aside from the fact that Devon Carlson styled her video, which we love, but again she is singles still reeling. This one is great and makes it on our playlist as we will be singing it all summer. Sun Goes Down Lil Nas X Lil Nas X has grown Up… He will be referred to as Big Nas X from this point forward. This one really highlights his maturity and growth as an artist. The boy has evolved. He can sing and is much more than the sum of his parts or a catchy tune that made him famous. This one has some emotions and relatability beyond being quirky… you are in a part of his vulnerable soul here. That’s why it made it to our playlist. Save Your Tears The Weeknd & Ariana Grande It’s just another one about love and summer for some reason induces those feelings for most of us. Especially after the last two years… we just need to be reminded it exists. Romance, and love and this one kind of embodies it. Their voices beautifully mesh together in this duet and the flow of this digital throwback upbeat remind us it’s getting better. It made it to our Summer Sounds playlist. CCDE TAKEOVER By: Angela Vance NewVMusic: Tell me a little more about the origins of CCDE? David: At first, we had this little record deal, didn’t want to go too deep with it, still wanted to perform live, because it was kind of iffy. Omar came up with ‘Chinese Connection’ and I came up with ‘Dub Embassy’. We’ve been playing in Memphis in the Punk Rock scene since 2009 with Omar live. There was zero Reggae scene in Memphis, you know. It’s the home of blues, rap… rock n’roll. Review: Roadburn Thursday 19th April 2017 By Sander van den Driesche It’s that time of the year again, the After Yellow Eyes it’s straight to the much anticipated annual pilgrimage to Main Stage to see Dark Buddha Rising Tilburg to join with many hundreds of perform with Oranssi Pazuzu as the travellers for Walter’s party at Waste of Space Orchestra, which is Roadburn. As I get off the train the another highly anticipated show, and in heat kicks me right in the face, what a this case one that won’t be played massive difference to the dull and rainy anywhere else (as far as I know). What morning I left behind in Scotland. This happened on that big stage was is glorious weather for a Roadburn phenomenal, we witnessed a near hour Festival! Bring it on! of glorious drone-infused psychedelic proggy doom. In fact, it felt a bit too early for me personally in the timing of the festival to experience such an extraordinarily mind-blowing set, but it was a remarkable collaboration and performance. I can’t wait for the Live at Roadburn release to come out (someone make it happen please!). Yellow Eyes by Niels Vinck After getting my bearings with the new venues, I enter Het Patronaat for the first of my highly anticipated performances of the festival, Yellow Eyes. But after three blistering minutes of ferocious black metal the PA system seems to disagree and we have our first “Zeal & Ardor moment” of 2018. It’s Waste of Space Orchestra by Niels Vinck not even remotely funny to see the On the same Main Stage, Earthless Roadburn crew frantically trying to played the first of their sets as figure out what went wrong, but luckily Roadburn’s artist in residence.

Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

Song Exploder girl in red - Serotonin Episode 208 Hrishikesh: You’re listening to Song Exploder, where musicians take apart their songs and piece by piece tell the story of how they were made. My name is Hrishikesh Hirway. Before this episode starts, I want to let you know that there is some frank discussion of mental health issues, including panic attacks, medical fears and thoughts of self-harm. There’s also some explicit language. (“Serotonin” by GIRL IN RED) Hrishikesh: Marie Ulven is a singer, songwriter, and producer from Norway, who makes music under the name, girl in red. She just released her debut album in April 2021, but she’s already got a lot of fans and she’s gotten a lot of critical acclaim from two EPs and singles that she’s released online, including a couple of songs that went gold. The New York Times included her work in their best songs of the year in both 2018 and 2019. Last year she was nominated for Best Newcomer at the Norwegian Grammys, and this year she won their award International Success of the Year. “Do you listen to girl in red?” has also become code on TikTok, a sort of shibboleth, to ask if someone’s a lesbian. In this episode, Marie breaks down the song “Serotonin,” a song that started as a video she posted to her own TikTok in the early days of lockdown in 2020. You’ll hear the original version she recorded on her own, before she started working with producer Matias Téllez, and later, with Grammy-winning artist and producer Finneas O’Connell, who helped finish the song.
