NewVMusic: Tell me a little more about the origins of CCDE? David: At first, we had this little record deal, didn’t want to go too deep with it, still wanted to perform live, because it was kind of iffy. Omar came up with ‘Chinese Connection’ and I came up with ‘Dub Embassy’. We’ve been playing in Memphis in the scene since 2009 with Omar live. There was zero Reggae scene in Memphis, you know. It’s the home of blues, rap… rock n’roll.

We sat down with brothers, David and Joseph Higgins of the two Memphis Just being fans of punk and that culture being so close to Reggae, they embraced Omar and brought him in. I was always a huge , R&B. Their first , The Firm Foundation Riddim Squad with their late brother, some smooth jazz, and stuff like that. I had heard of Bob Marley, of course, Omar Higgins from 2004 to 2010 became CCDE due to a contract mishap, in and we all know the ‘Cops’ theme song too well. I didn’t even know that was which the brothers signed with a non-descript independent label who stole Reggae at first. Going into Omar’s earlier work before we got involved, I was money from them. Instead of laying down and giving up, the brothers like, “Oh… that’s alright, but they seem to be doing the same thing over and regrouped and renamed, and this phenomenon was born. It almost reads like a over again.” storybook ending of the good guys coming out on top. Hell yeah! People are always looking at reggae like it’s about ‘going to the beach’ or ‘tropical’. But it’s got a deeper meaning. The ‘Truth and Rights’ aspect of it…You can go to when reggae was starting with Marley, and he was doing his Truth and Rights stuff like “So Much Trouble (In the World)” and “Majestic (Warriors)”. That’s like literally the bare bones. They were birthed through struggle and rebellion and then the other stuff came later because there must be a Yin and Yang to life. Whether it be listening to something, I create Joseph: Yes! I remember we were talking in 2012 and flash forward we ended songs from hearing people talk or sounds up playing the Forum! Our first was the foundation… Well sometimes that can be a good thing, the building blocks for everything else we’ve done thus far. I don’t take that because you can navigate away from the lightly when someone says put something out in the universe and watch it bullshit. “Man, I can’t wait to go on break and manifest, because it happens! We’re going to hold onto the torch and never let it go. (Both laughing) I will be 97 years old with that torch still in my hand. NewVMusic: Your brother and I worked on that Juneteenth article together earlier this month. Do you have any follow up thoughts on that? Even with the old standard that’s going on in America with different things that black people are trying to open up and they’re kind of putting a halt on it. Even with the whole reparations’ thing with black Americans in the US, literally every time that is brought up, it’s always shunned and shut down. No President has ever written in a bill or whatever to give black Americans a step up, if you will. You see the Stop Asian Hate thing, it’s needed but go back 400 years and we’ve been saying, “Hey! Hey!!! (Waving hand) Stop the hate for us! Can we stop the KKK and people like them and make them pay for the wrong they are still currently doing to us?” We bring that up and people say, “Oh, okay you’re beating a dead horse. You’ve been saying this for years and nothing has ever been done”. Look at the hypocrisy. NewVMusic: Honestly, as much as that makes sense, I have never even thought about it that way to process it. I don’t see how any rational, sane person could argue against that point and NOT be a member of the KKK or a white supremacist. That was a very excellent way to express it.
