BREMBO PRESENTS ROSS BRAWN WITH THE PRIZE “F1 EXCELLENCE AWARD” ON THE OCCASION OF THE FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX OF ITALY Managing Director of Formula 1 received the important prize to have contributed to improve the prestige of motorsport, and Formula 1 particularly, reaching remarkable achievements thanks to passion, constant commitment and entrepreneurial capability. (Stezzano, Italy, 1st September 2017) – On the occasion of the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Italy at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, Brembo Chairman Alberto Bombassei presented the prize “F1 Excellence Award by Brembo” to Ross Brawn, Managing Director of Formula 1. The award was assigned with the following motivation: “Brembo confers to Ross Brawn the F1 Excellence Award 2017 for his significant contribution to the excellence and continuous innovation he has brought to F1 with passion and dedication in the many strategic roles he has covered in the recent years. In addition to celebrating Ross Brawn’s successful commitment to the Sport, with this Award Brembo also wishes to pass on the very best wishes for his precious action for the future of Formula One”. The award ceremony took place in the Hospitality area of Liberty Media F1 inside the paddock of the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza. The prize was born in 2011, when Bombassei Chairman donated to Bernie Ecclestone a braking system personalized with the colour of the Italian flag to celebrate the 50° anniversary of the Company from Bergamo. In 2012 the award was assigned to Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, Ferrari Spa Chairman; in 2013 to Niki Lauda, non-executive Chairman of Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team; in 2014 to Sir Frank Williams, Founder and Team Principal of Williams F1 team; in 2015 to Jean Todt, President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile and in 2016 to Marco Tronchetti Provera, Pirelli & C. BRACKLEY 30 SEPTEMBER 2011 MERCEDES GP PETRONAS STRENGTHENS TECHNICAL TEAM The MERCEDES GP PETRONAS Formula One Team is pleased to announce two new appointments as the team continues to strengthen its technical structure. Geoffrey Willis will join the team as Technology Director on 17 October and Aldo Costa will begin his role as Engineering Director on 1 December. Aldo and Geoffrey will report to Technical Director Bob Bell. Aldo will be responsible for design and development, and Geoffrey will head the aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, control systems and simulation functions. Geoffrey Willis worked at Brackley from 2001 to 2006, and was Technical Director at Red Bull Racing from 2007 to 2009, before taking a consultancy role with Hispania Racing in March 2010. Aldo Costa previously worked as Technical Director at Ferrari, joining in 1996 after eight years at the Minardi team. Aldo won eight World Championships at Maranello, prior to his departure in May 2011. Team Principal Ross Brawn said: “I am delighted to announce that Aldo Costa and Geoff Willis will be joining the MERCEDES GP PETRONAS team. Geoff is a highly respected engineer with over twenty years of Formula One experience, and we look forward to his arrival next month. Having worked closely with Aldo for many years, I know that he will bring dedication and championship-winning expertise to the team when he joins in December. Building a winning team is an exciting challenge for us all as we work towards the competitiveness and standards that we aspire to as the Mercedes-Benz works team. When did you start talks with Daniel and just how did that deal come about from a Renault point of view. Cyril ABITEBOUL: Obviously, we have known Daniel since a while for the collaboration we naturally have on the engine side with Red Bull since 12 years. We’ve had random discussions – jokes – with Daniel since a while. It would be hard to put an exact date on the first joke about this type of switch. But I’d say that’s it’s a while since we’ve expressed our interest in him, the fact that we liked him, his style, his skills, his talent, his leadership and the fact that there could be an opportunity for him at Renault. We’ve always been clear with what we are, what we are not yet, that we are still in the making. That if he was interested in a turnkey organisation, in a turnkey team with a turnkey car that would not be with us – but if he was interested in a project in construction where he could play a role, we would be interested. So, you know, that’s where we left it and we accepted also since day one it would take him a bit of time to digest and to consider because it was an important decision, you know such a switch is complex.

Can you tell us a little bit more about the new owners? Who are these people who have bought one of the most prestigious brands in Formula One? Monisha KALTENBORN: Well, Longbow Finance is a Swiss company. They have been active in financial investments for more than 20 years, from Switzerland. Their operation involves, well typically private equity investment for international client and of course investment portfolio management. So when are we going to start seeing the benefits and when are you going to start seeing the benefits of the buyout – something this year? MK: Well, we are working on that, but you know these things take time. We have had a rough time these past few months and the first target of course of the new owners is to stabilise the entire group. So you have to settle matters and then of course, again, to get back to your business as usual to have then a basis for being competitive. I’m sure we’ll have a few things still coming up this year, I mean we still have a few things to do, we don’t want to end up where we are, but of course we are focusing more on next year and there I am very confident you will see a lot more.
