The legendary rock band YES is back after a 25 year hiatus, and it’s kicking off a global tour with a stop in Philadelphia. The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in association with BRE Presents & LME are proud to announce that the 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees will take the Verizon Hall stage on October 1 at 7:30PM. Long-time YES fans can rejoice as Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin, Rick Wakeman will reform the definitive YES line-up as Anderson, Rabin, Wakeman (ARW). “As one of the most influential and outstanding progressive rock bands in history, YES has transcended musical genres and accrued noteworthy accomplishment throughout its career,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “It is truly a surreal experience to be able to welcome these divine musicians to our campus, to put on what is sure to be a stunning performance for rock fans everywhere.” Since last playing together as YES in 1990 on the highly successful ‘Union Tour,’ there have been several hybrid versions of the English rock band, however, none that featured the iconic voice of founding member Jon Anderson, the outstanding talent of guitarist Trevor Rabin, and the keyboard wizardry of Rick Wakeman, until now. Currently, ARW’s goal is to restore the standard of excellence in performance that was established with their 1990s show, when YES members past and present came together for the only time of the legendary band’s career. Founded by Jon Anderson in London in 1968, the band has undergone various member formations throughout its history, all-in-all, featuring 19 musicians as full timers throughout the band’s career. From their start, YES has explored an array of musical styles, including rock, pop, blues, and jazz, but are most notably regarded as the pioneers of progressive rock. In 1983, guitarist Trevor Rabin joined the band, bringing forth a more commercial, pop-oriented musical direction, resulting in their highest selling album to date. Keyboardist Rick Wakeman joined the band in 1971 and played across five tenures of the group between 1971 and 2004. YES has sold 13.5 million RIAA-certified albums in the U.S., won a Grammy® Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 1985, and received five additional Grammy® nominations between 1985 and 1992. This past April, YES was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. YES FEATURING JON ANDERSON, TREVOR RABIN, RICK WAKEMAN AS ARW Verizon Hall October 1, 2017, 7:30 PM Tickets Tickets are on sale now and start at $69.00. Perhaps, as Prial suggests, Hammond’s relationship to the Vanderbilts did him more good in his early years in music than his social skills. There are questions unanswered and undeveloped in this biography related to Hammond the man, such as his falling out with Aretha Franklin or his quick parting with Dylan. Each chapter of this book comes (another assault on your pocketbook) with a wonderful ‘‘discography’’ that should slow down the pace of reading but will contribute to a great start in building a library of American music of the 20th century. It is quite something how much music Hammond had a role in, and this portion of the book is an important reminder of the times and genres Hammond touched. As with all biographies there are problems and limitations. For those of us raised in the second half of the century, The Producer fails to deliver the same magic surrounding the discovery and signing of ‘‘our’’ heroes as it does around the early stars.

Bands that helped to contribute to that wave had been predecessor to conceptual music in appearance and in sound during the late 1960s and 1970s, and the band Yes continued their presence through the following decade and on their album “90125”; the title originated from the band’s then record label ATCO and its catalog number that was misprinted. Aside from that, it was the most commercially produced albums in the band’s discography and of the decade, and it did not hurt that they became a major part of the MTV age in music and videos.By far, the single “Owner of a Lonely Heart” is the most memorable of the tracks on the album that is followed by “Leave It” and “It Can Happen.” Each song had a music video that played in heavy rotation on the music video channel. On the deluxe edition of the album and in addition to the initial album’s list of tracks, listeners have the chance to listen to alternate versions and extra tracks that are not on the original record,

  • Gordon Giltrap BIOGRAPHY
Gordon Giltrap BIOGRAPHY Over the past forty years, Gordon Giltrap has graced the music business with his dedication to his craft and his affection for his audience. As one of the UK's most respected guitarists, he has consistently proved the adage that respect cannot be bought. It must be earned. Gordon was born on 6 April 1948, at the British Home for Mothers and Babies in Brenchley, Kent. The son of a labourer, he grew up in an austere but protective community of terraced houses in Deptford, south-east London. His obsession with stringed instruments began nine years later, when a friend turned up at the house with an out-of-tune Spanish guitar. Keen to encourage his new hobby, his parents bought him a plastic ukulele with a picture of Elvis on the headstock, then a Martin Coletti archtop jazz guitar with a sunburst finish and a brown canvas case. Without a teacher to guide him and just a set of pitch pipes and a book entitled “First Steps” he taught himself how to tune the instrument and finger basic chords. A familiar story I’m sure you have heard before from many of the guitar legends around today! Gordon joined his first band when barely in his teens, and relished the opportunity to play songs by his idols - Cliff Richard, The Shadows and The Everly Brothers. He set his sights on Art College, but bowed to his father's insistence that he learn "a trade", and grafted his way through a series of unrewarding jobs. Gordon unwittingly taught himself a hybrid technique of plectrum and little finger, but in doing so, created the individual sound that is still his trademark.

  • Bill Bruford Interview
With Io Pages, Holland, November 2007 1. With Absolute Elsewhere, Pavlov’s Dog, Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, UK and Bruford you worked together with the best of the progressive rock scene. With Earthworks you deliver pure jazz. Was it because you tried to inject jazz within the rock format that you joined the aforementioned bands ? Or were you looking for musicians who would constantly deliver battles what complexity is concerned ? Last sentence doesn’t make sense, but generally I get the drift. When I was 18, I didn’t have any set plan, other than to join a group – any group – and get playing. We didn’t care about fine distinctions between jazz and rock – everthing was in a state of flux anyway. I knew jazz, which meant I was likely to be good at rock. I wasn’t trying to inject jazz, but naturally, in a collective where everyone is contributing, you bring what you know; you draw on your background, which, in my case, was jazz. I was, I believe, about the only prog-rocker who knew anything about that subject at all. Rick Wakeman, for example, has to my certain knowledge, never played a note of jazz in his life. 2. Your early influences are Max Roach for his economy, grace and melody, Joe Morello for the odd metres and Art Blakey for sound and grooves. Was/is it your ambition to contain all of those elements within your own playing ? Are there any current drummers which get close to the complete picture ? Only in retrospect, and for the sake of simplicity in interviews such as this, have I been forced to reduce all my influences to Blakey, Roach, and Morello.
