We have a recycling station in each municipality. Read more on pages 17 and 18. Opening hours can be found on page 22.

At the recycling station, you can pick up a red box, free of charge, for storing hazardous waste. The box is childproof. There is an accompanying brochure about hazardous waste. You may empty the box, free of charge at the recycling station. See page 9.

Empty glass bottles, food jars and metallic packaging are disposed of in the glass and metal containers. These are placed in various locations in all the municipalities.

We empty about 2,500 sludge/septic tanks per year. The tanks are emptied once every other year for all inhabited dwellings. For secondary residences, the tanks are emptied every fourth year. Learn more on page 21.

We offer three different subscriptions for cabin/holiday home waste collection services – the blue big bag! See page 14.

5 Bags for waste-sorting are available in grocery stores.

You get bags for sorting waste free of charge in grocery stores in Vesterålen and Lødingen.

Making green, red and blue bags available in grocery stores facilitates waste-sorting. Everyone has to buy food, and the grocery stores have late opening hours. This way you can get the roll of bags that you need without having to wait two weeks for the next waste collection. Each roll contains 40 bags, so one roll will last many weeks. This arran- gement is here to stay – you do not need to stockpile bags at home.

The stores will also sell white bags for residural waste at NOK 30 per roll (40 bags).

This can also be done in the app.

7 Position the waste bin with the lid’s opening towards the road

– close to the road so that the lift arm reaches the bin.

We serve most routes using garbage trucks with a lift arm.

To have the bin emptied: 1. the lid opening must be facing the road 2. the bin must be within reach of the lift arm and 3. there must be room beside the bin for inserting and fastening the lift arm so that the bin can be emptied.

Remember: Our refuse collectors Stig Kibsgaard and The bin must have about a half-metre clearing on all sides Einar Karlsen find the new bin collection – and it must not be placed beneath tree branches etc. trucks very efficient. Lid fasteners or stones placed on the lid must not be used on collection day.

The contestant writes his/her name and telephone number on the carton or multiple-carton stack and delivers it to the nearest recycling station. You are now entered in the lottery. Four times a year Reno-Vest randomly selects two cartons and sends the names to Green Point , who administer the lottery.

A total of 188 stacks in 86 different locations spread throughout Norway, are drawn four times a year. These stacks are then forwarded to the national drawing. 120 persons/organizations win 10,000 NOK. Four win 100,000 NOK.

Waste disposal regulations are adopted in each municipality in Vesterålen and Lødingen. These specify how the municipality wishes to carry out its collection of household waste. The work is performed by Reno-Vest.

15 Brilliant waste-sorting

Do you need smart and space-efficient waste boxes? You can get these recycling boxes free at our recycling stations.

Advantages of the Sorting box

• Integrated space for a roll of bags in the recessed bottom of the box. • When you remove the full bag, you simply pull up another bag from the roll beneath. • Adjustable volume. • Does not take up much space and is therefore ideal for most kitchens. • Size of a single box is 29 x 29 x 12.5 cm. • The Sorting box is produced in Norway using 100% recycled materials.

With the Sorting box, you turn waste into a resource by sorting at the source in our coloured bags, while you save time and money. If you have enough space, you can use a box for collecting glass and metallic packaging (which you throw in the glass and metal container) and a box for deposit bottles (that you turn in for a refund).

Watch the film at www.kildeboksen.no to discover how easy it is to use the Sorting box! http://www.kildeboksen.no/

Free shopping bag

You can get your free shopping bag at the recycling station, provided we have them in stock. The shopping bag is made of 12 recycled plastic bottles.

20 Correct use and emptying of septic tanks prevents accidents and protects our environment

Reno-Vest’s obligations Reno-Vest must ensure that the tank is properly locked (mandatory lock) and that any barriers, gates or doors are closed. Reno-Vest must notify the customer whether the tank is “emptied” or “not emptied”.

Owner’s obligations The owner must ensure that the tank is in compliance with regulations and available for emptying by a vacuum tank vehicle. Soil, snow or ice covering the tank must be removed by the owner and the lid must be cleaned so that the tank can be easily opened. Mark the tank so that the service personnel can locate it. If the lid is locked, a key must be readily available. If no key is made available, the lock will be removed and the owner will have to replace it.

An unsecured septic tank is a death trap Septic tanks are extremely dangerous if they are not properly secured – and the owner of the tank is responsible for this.

Throw only TOILET PAPER into the TOILET! Throw nothing but toilet paper in the toilet. Cooking grease, sanitary napkins, tampons, condoms or wet wipes must not be thrown in the toilet. Our service personnel unfortunately find these items in the septic tank, and they absolutely do NOT belong there. They will not disintegrate, and they are frequently tangled up with one another. The result may be a clogged septic pipe and a lot of problems for the homeowner!

No wet wipes in the toilet, please! These frequently cause large cloth-like balls in the pipe system.

No cotton buds in the toilet! The cotton buds often stick in the pipes along with cleansing tissues and grease. NOTE. When notification is received that the No cooking grease/drippings tank will be emptied, the lids are NOT in the toilet! Cooking to be removed before our personnel is grease/fats that are poured into the sink or toilet will on site. If the lids are locked, clot in the pipes so that they a key must be available at the time may become clogged. emptying is to begin.
