We have a recycling station in each municipality. Disposal of many types of waste is free; some types cost a fee, see page 17. Opening hours can be found on page 20.

At the recycling station, you can pick up a red box, free of charge, for storing hazardous waste. The box is childproof. There is an accompanying brochure about hazardous waste. You may empty the box, free of charge at the recycling station. See page 9.

Empty glass bottles, food jars and metallic packaging are deposited in the glass containers. These are placed in various locations in all the municipalities.

We empty about 2,500 sludge/septic tanks per year. The tanks are emptied once every other year for all inhabited dwellings. For secondary residences, the tanks are emptied every fourth year. Learn more on page 18.

We offer three different subscriptions for cabin/ holiday home renovation services – the blue bag type! See page 14.

5 Bags for source-sorting are now available in food shops

You can now get bags for sorting waste in food shops in Vesterålen and Lødingen free of charge. We distribute stands containing rolls of green, red and blue bags to the food markets that wish to make them available to their customers.

Making green, red and blue bags available in food shops facilitates waste-sorting. Everyone has to buy food, and the food shops have late opening hours. This way you can get the roll of bags that you need without having to wait two weeks for the next waste collection. Each roll contains 40 bags, so one roll will last many weeks. This arrangement is here to stay – you do not need to stockpile bags at home. The shop will also sell white bags for general refuse disposal at NOK 30 per roll (40 bags).

You will find free sorting bags in the following shops:

7 Position the waste bin with the lid’s opening towards the road

– as close to the road that the lift arm reaches the bin.

We are renewing a number of routes with new bin lorries that have lift arms. Initially we are using the two new vehicles on selected routes in Sortland, Hadsel and Lødingen.

On the routes we service with the new vehicles for the first time: • We will attach information to the waste bin • We will position the bin where it needs to be on future collection days. • We will send a text message to the customers scheduled for collection using the new vehicle.

To have the bin emptied: 1. the lid opening must be toward the road 2. the bin must be within reach of the lift arm, and 3. there must be room beside the bin for inserting and fastening the lift arm so that the bin can be emptied

Remember: Our refuse collectors Stig Kibsgaard and The bin must have about a half-metre clearing on all sides – Einar Karlsen find the new bin lorries very and it must not be placed beneath tree branches etc. efficient. Lid fasteners or stones placed on the lid must not be used on collection day.

Four times a year Reno-Vest randomly selects two stacks and sends the names in to Green Point , who administer the lottery.

In 86 different locations spread throughout Norway, a total of 188 stacks are drawn each quarter. These stacks are then forwarded to the national drawing. These stacks are forwarded to the national drawing. 120 persons/organizations win 10,000 NOK. Four win 100,000 NOK.

You can also enter individual drink cartons with your name and number on it, but this makes you eligible to win only 10,000 NOK.

15 Brilliant refuse-sorting

Do you need smart and space-saving waste boxes? You can get these sorting boxes free at our recycling stations.

Advantages of the sorting box

• Integrated space for a roll of bags in the recessed bottom of the box. • When you remove the full bag, you simply pull up another bag from the roll beneath. • Adjustable volume. • Does not take up much space and is therefore ideal for most kitchens. • Size of a single box is 29 x 29 x 12.5 cm. • The Sorting box is produced in Norway using 100% recycled materials.

With the Sorting box, you turn waste into a resource by source-sorting in our coloured bags, while at the same time you save time and money. If you have enough space, you can have one box for collecting glass and metallic packaging (which you throw in the glass and metal container) and one box for deposit bottles (that you turn in for a refund).

Watch the film at www.kildeboksen.no to discover how easy it is to use the Sorting box!
