The daughter of Nat King Cole brings her talent, elegance and style to the San Diego Symphony Summer Pops on Sunday, August 23; 7:30pm in a performance: An Unforgettable Evening with Natalie Cole. Singer, songwriter, pianist and actress, Cole will perform several of her own R&B hits, the incomparable standards first recorded by her father and the most romantic songs of the great Spanish-language composers featured on Natalie Cole en Español, her latest album that will be released on June 25. Natalie Cole rose to musical success in the mid-1970s as an R&B artist with hits This Will Be, Inseparable and Our Love. She reemerged as a pop artist with her 1987 album, Everlasting, and her cover of Bruce Springsteen’s Pink Cadillac. In the 1990s, she re-recorded standards by her father resulting in her biggest success, Unforgettable…with Love, which sold seven million copies in the U.S. alone winning several Grammys including Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance for the top song. Throughout the years, her hits also included I’ve Got Love on My Mind, Jump Start (My Heart), I Live for Your Love and Miss You Like Crazy. With her latest album, Natalie Cole en Español, she finds herself inspired by both the bilingual recording legacy of her father, Nat King Cole, and a growing passion for the timeless romanticism of the great Latin composers. Natalie Cole en Español will reintroduce a new generation of fans to many of Latin music’s most romantic standards—with both new interpretations of Spanish-language classics previously recorded by Nat King Cole and Natalie’s own personal selections of songs that have touched her heart and make this album truly her own. Highlights include Natalie joining Juan Luis Guerra on the Dominican Maestro’s own Bachata Rosa and with Andrea Bocelli on the eternal Bésame Mucho. Cole is joining the campaign to encourage others with chronic hepatitis C to put aside fear and stigma and take action.
