FY14 Tappin' Study Guide
Student Matinee Series Maurice Hines is Tappin’ Thru Life Study Guide Created by Miller Grove High School Drama Class of Joyce Scott As part of the Alliance Theatre Institute for Educators and Teaching Artists’ Dramaturgy by Students Under the guidance of Teaching Artist Barry Stewart Mann Maurice Hines is Tappin’ Thru Life was produced at the Arena Theatre in Washington, DC, from Nov. 15 to Dec. 29, 2013 The Alliance Theatre Production runs from April 2 to May 4, 2014 The production will travel to Beverly Hills, California from May 9-24, 2014, and to the Cleveland Playhouse from May 30 to June 29, 2014. Reviews Keith Loria, on theatermania.com, called the show “a tender glimpse into the Hineses’ rise to fame and a touching tribute to a brother.” Benjamin Tomchik wrote in Broadway World, that the show “seems determined not only to love the audience, but to entertain them, and it succeeds at doing just that! While Tappin' Thru Life does have some flaws, it's hard to find anyone who isn't won over by Hines showmanship, humor, timing and above all else, talent.” In The Washington Post, Nelson Pressley wrote, “’Tappin’ is basically a breezy, personable concert. The show doesn’t flinch from hard-core nostalgia; the heart-on-his-sleeve Hines is too sentimental for that. It’s frankly schmaltzy, and it’s barely written — it zips through selected moments of Hines’s life, creating a mood more than telling a story. it’s a pleasure to be in the company of a shameless, ebullient vaudeville heart.” Maurice Hines Is . -

PARKSIDE UNIT 3 HEALTH: Putting the Truth about Drugs to Use NAME: _______________ ROOM: __________ DUE DATE: MAY 15, 2020 Assignments: Lesson # 1: Considering your response The statements below represent 9 common lies about drugs. They are often used to persuade young people to begin or continue to take illegal street drugs or to abuse prescription drugs. As you read each lie, think about how you would respond if a friend seriously said one of these to you. 9 Lies About Drugs: 1) Drugs make you feel better. 2) Drugs make you more creative. 3) Marijuana is better for you than tobacco. 4) Drugs make you more fun to be with. 5) Drugs wear off and don’t cause any permanent damage to your body. 6) Drugs give you energy. 7) Prescription drugs can’t hurt you. 8) You can stop taking drugs whenever you want. 9) Alcohol isn’t really a drug. R&B Legend Natalie Cole Joins Rock Legend Gregg Allman, Merck
NEWS RELEASE R&B Legend Natalie Cole Joins Rock Legend Gregg Allman, Merck and The American Liver Foundation to Turn Up the Volume Around Hep C 7/26/2011 Cole to Perform with The Allman Brothers Band at the Tune In to Hep C Benet Concert Tomorrow on the Eve of World Hepatitis Day Merck (NYSE: MRK) (known as MSD outside the United States and Canada) today announced that GRAMMY® winner Natalie Cole is adding her voice to the company's public health campaign, Tune In to Hep C, with the American Liver Foundation (ALF) and rock legend Gregg Allman. The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of chronic hepatitis C virus infection. Cole will join Allman onstage at a benet concert featuring The Allman Brothers Band and other special guests in New York tomorrow, July 27, the eve of World Hepatitis Day. This cause is personal to Cole, who was diagnosed with chronic hepatitis C during a routine blood test in 2008. It was then that she realized she'd been living with the virus for more than 25 years - nearly half of her life. Cole's experience is not uncommon. In fact, chronic hepatitis C is often referred to as the silent disease because – for many people – it can be in the body for decades without any symptoms. Cole is joining the campaign to encourage others with chronic hepatitis C to put aside fear and stigma and take action. "One thing is for sure – there's a stigma surrounding hepatitis C because it's associated with IV drug use. -

Ranking Selena Gomez Songs: Worst to Best
Ranking Selena Gomez Songs: Worst to Best Selena Gomez is one of the biggest pop stars of this day and age. I personally have been a big fan of hers for years now, and while I don’t love every single song she’s released I still like the majority of them. For this ranking I decided to only do songs after she stopped singing with her band The Scene and I have also not added in “We Don’t Talk Anymore” with Charlie Puth. I had a lot of fun putting this list together and figuring out where her Songs ranked for me. Read on for more! “Birthday” A bit repetitive and kind of annoying. Sorry, Selena. “B.E.A.T” I’m not a big fan of the music, the lyrics, or really the way Selena sings this song. Still, the lyrics are alright, I guess. “Music Feels Better” A pretty good song, but a bit repetitive. “Body Heat” The lyrics are alright, but I think the beat of this song really pulls it together. “Like A Champion” Eh. The lyrics are alright, but Selena’s voice sounds beautiful singing it so that’s a plus. “Revival” The talking at the beginning is a bit strange, but the song is still good nonetheless. It has a good beat and the lyrics are really good as well. “Me And My Girls” This song is a bit edgy and it talks about girl power which I’m always down for. “Save The Day” Pretty catchy. “Write Your Name” This song about “writing your name” and being a permanent part of someone’s life is catchy. -
Aint Gonna Study War No More / Down by the Riverside
The Danish Peace Academy 1 Holger Terp: Aint gonna study war no more Ain't gonna study war no more By Holger Terp American gospel, workers- and peace song. Author: Text: Unknown, after 1917. Music: John J. Nolan 1902. Alternative titles: “Ain' go'n' to study war no mo'”, “Ain't gonna grieve my Lord no more”, “Ain't Gwine to Study War No More”, “Down by de Ribberside”, “Down by the River”, “Down by the Riverside”, “Going to Pull My War-Clothes” and “Study war no more” A very old spiritual that was originally known as Study War No More. It started out as a song associated with the slaves’ struggle for freedom, but after the American Civil War (1861-65) it became a very high-spirited peace song for people who were fed up with fighting.1 And the folk singer Pete Seeger notes on the record “Waist Deep in the Big Muddy and Other Love Songs”, that: "'Down by the Riverside' is, of course, one of the oldest of the Negro spirituals, coming out of the South in the years following the Civil War."2 But is the song as we know it today really as old as it is claimed without any sources? The earliest printed version of “Ain't gonna study war no more” is from 1918; while the notes to the song were published in 1902 as music to a love song by John J. Nolan.3 1 http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/grovemusic/spirituals,_hymns,_gospel_songs.htm 2 Thanks to Ulf Sandberg, Sweden, for the Pete Seeger quote.
